Alternatives for Omeprazole

Posted , 26 users are following.

I have long suspected omeprazole is making me gain weight. whether its from increased appetite or stored water (or whatever), I don't like it!  Mr GP just says, well stop taking it, but then my symptoms come back ... he seems to put my weight gain down to lack of will power and committment rather than the drug.

I see from this discussion page that other people feel the same way ..... so what can we use instead (and will the side effects be the same?)

I have no choice but to stay on these or any other Meds for gastric as I have night time chocking...

the last time I had night time chocking I really thought my time on earth was over..I couldn't breathe in or out without forcing my air in and out which hurt my throat...

If I could be without them it would be great but I'm so scared now I have to stay on them...this med has given me very bad wind & it's from both ends, so my gp is trying to find one that I can stay on permanently without the wind

I started getting horrendous heartburn so my gp changed me to Lansoprazole.  Same manufacturer, but a different formulation.

Took a while to work, but it helped - for a while !  Got to go back and get something  else as heartburn is back 🙁

I have been taking omaprazol for reflux since 2005. I have been having problems for a while now. laco of appetite, nausea , feeling full very quickly , difficulty swallowing and coughing. Specialist advised taking 2 omaprazol per day instead of 1. now a gastroscopie has shown that I have 'multiple " polyps in my stomach. but am being told that these polyps cause no symptoms. these symptoms are not in my head they are real. I haven't been advised to stop taking omaprazol..
