Amitripiline Withdrawal symptoms

Posted , 82 users are following.

Hi,  I was taking 75/100mg of amitripiline for chronic pain.  (5 Yrs)  The pain has now disappeared & i came off amitripiline over 6 weeks.  After about 3 to 4 weeks, i am still waking up extremely early & having trouble going to sleep.  But the main thing that concerns me is, i have developed a prickly sensation all over my body which i have had for about 7 weeks.  The doctors thinks this has nothing to do with withdrawal from amitripilne, i have had antihistimines & creams which has no effect.  Has anyone experienced this sensation on withdrawal.

Hello Faith. What is the active ingredient in Phenergan? Could you list the ingredients from the label of your bottle? I, too, am looking for something to help with insomnia. Thank you.

sorry only just seen your query. promethazine hydrochloride. belongs to phenothiazines. blocks histamine and works on brain to help you relax. non addictive which is really important.

thank you Faith. I will ask my doctor about that med. In the meantime, she prescribed Vistaril Pamoate which is also an antihistamine that helps insomnia and anxiety. I've just started it and will let you know how it works for me.

      HI All

Hope this trail hasn't gone cold. Had been on ADS for 30 years, with most recent 1 year on amitriptyline ending on 25mg in Sept. I survived for 6 weeks b4 trying the reinstatement (5mg, then 2.5mg) Neither worked, so propelled into second cold turkey period. I've been completely off since 24 Nov.

I've been crippled with ghastly physical and mental symptoms, and been off work for 3 weeks. I know there is uncertainty about this WD syndrome v relapse. I'm hoping it's former with some hope of alleviation over time. In addition to the symptoms themselves, there is the severity, which has been getting much worse.

      Mental

      Mental

      Anguish, confusion and agitation

      Depressed feeling, lonely, restlessness.

      Insomnia

Gnawing in stomach overnight and appetite loss

      Physical

      Parkinson type tremors

Stabbing pains in arms and legs

      Back spasms

      Muscular stiffness

      Eye sensitivity

      Dizzy

      Hoarse voice

The most terrifying is the v palpable depression type, black mood, unlike anything I've had before. I wondered if those on the same journey had experienced this also and come out on the other side?

      Thanks for your time.

My gp was adamant that it should be out of my system after three weeks stopping, I stopped cold turkey, but I'm about four weeks off it now and still very much tormented by abnormal pins and needles and a weird bubble feeling in my head, like as if I've drank wine or taken strong painkillers, I'm wiped out with it all. I hope you feel better soon.

My hands are still bothering me with heat in them and waking with fuzzy feeling in them. It's really worrying because I don't know what's normal. I hope you're feeling better?

Hi Larry. I'm so sorry you are having such relentless withdrawal symptoms. I finished my taper of Ami mid October of 2020. I still have the withdrawal symptoms I had last year as noted above. It's hard to be patient with yourself as you pass through this period of letting your body try to return to normal. I do 20 minuite meditations to calm down my brain, which is overstimulated right now, trying to make sense of not having this med in my body. Be patient with yourself. Breathe deeply and get out in nature if you can. Try not to dwell on your symptoms. The moment your brain tries to pull you in the wrong direction, stop that thought and tell yourself you are on the road to recovery one day at a time and you will get there. Keep telling yourself you are doing great....and your brain will one day catch up with what you are telling it. It's a long process, and I'm still on it. But I know we will get better. We took the right step in getting this drug out of our body. Be kind to your body and rest, slow down, meditate and get outside weather permitting. Stay the course Larry!

Hello Ruth. Just checking in to see how you are doing. I pray some of your withdrawal symptoms have lessened over time. I finished my taper in October of 2020 and am still on the road to recovery. It's long.

I'm glad you feel normal again. I'm still struggling with nerve tingles in my arm and hand occasionally since stopping four weeks ago, it's really such an awful drug if it doesn't agree with you.
