An Experiment with Borax

So, I've been in Vietnam now for just over a month. Haven't had any itching, but the white plaque has expanded and looked like a bit more fusing had occured. Panic set in and of course I was trying not to. However, now that we're here, my husband has been able to start doing more research to help me. And he came across some stuff about borax. So we started an experiment 6 days ago. Not using any steroids, but instead each morning and night he's applying to one side a saturated borax solution and the other side a saturated baking soda solution (as we'd read that some people found baking soda helpful). We've been taking photos in order to compare as we progress. As mentioned, we are on day 6 and there is honestly some change! My clitoris which was quite white has returned to pink. And while the whole area still has some white, the pink is really starting to move in more. The biggest changes are on the side with the borax, with some change on the side with the baking soda (but since some of the borax can get rubbed off on that baking soda side we can't say for certain that the baking soda is having a major effect). We are feeling optimistic about this and I will keep everyone posted. During the day I do continue to add vitamin E oil to keep moisturized.

I sit in a borax bath - 1/6 of a cup. My system couldn't handle a stronger solution and this works. Every other day it is either baking soda bath or borax bath. Plus borax rinses during the day. I'm doing well.

Hello. I was diagnosed with LS about a week ago at my gyno during an annual visit. I haven't had any itching or discomfort, just uncomfortable sex. I was prescribed clob and have been using it. Now that I'm looking down there, I see the white skin (it's kind of like a ring). I saw this thread during my research and bought borate online. I'm planning on using it for the first time tonight. My question is, can I still use the cream as well? I'm nervous to stop using the cream because if there is no improvement in mid-January, my doctor will biopsy down there. So I just want the white skin to go away. Any advice would be appreciated!

I was seen by a gynaecologist who thought I had Ls and gave me steroid cream with no follow up.... 18 months later a different gynae said it was Ls......
6 months later a triage doctor. ( sic). Said it could be Ls and i needed a biopsy.... ( i wanted a dermatologist referral as i want them to give me LDN). I wrote to the second gynae who said the clinical evidence is there with the itching, scarred skin and patches and there was mo need at all for any biopsy. In fact, some people never heal lroperly from a biopsy which can create a sore spot.
You have the white skin and uncomfortable sex, what does the doctor think you will gain from a biopsy? His only remedy will still be the steroid cream.
i've been using borax for a few weeks..... I havent needed the cream, but the white patches havent gone away.... Yet....
best of luck..... Stick to your gut instincts every time..

Yea I agree. I actually found a specialist who focuses on gynecological dermatology, specifically LS. She has a wait list but I got an appointment one week before my follow up with my gyno. I may cancel the follow up with my gyno depending on what the specialist says. I was just wondering if until then I should do both the borax and the cream, or only one. I'm in no pain at all and wouldn't know unless I looked and saw the white. But sex is definitely uncomfortable with my husband. I guess I'll try the borax and the cream together (at separate times of day) and see what happens

It's a tough call as it's a scary feeling when you find out about having LS. I moved to Vietnam and was worried about how I would treat any flare-ups while living here. I brought over an abundant supply of clob. But once here and with some downtime my husband did some research and soon discovered this borax treatment (well, that borax could work, but he came up with my treatment). Anyway, I stopped using the clob, deciding to give myself 3-5 weeks to see what would happen, figuring that serious advancement of the LS would not happen overnight. It was a scary decision, but it worked out for me. We found a change within the first week, not a fast change, but some change. I stuck with it, and it's been a wonderful treatment for me. I don't think there will be any harm in using both. Or maybe use the clob and then after your appointment start using the borax.

Hi alistar,
I really hate to sound dumb here but I am trying hard to figure out what a saturated solution of borax would be. That seems very general...
Are you mixing a gallon at a time, a quart, a cup???
If so are you using a teaspoon of borax, a 1/4 cup of borax, what type of measurements are you using? I mean if I have a quart jar should I start out with a spoon full of borax or a cup full? Surely you must have some general idea of what measurements for someone who is trying to figure it out. I read through the threads and I could not find any type measurements.
Thanks for any and all help...

Hi Jen,
You won't find measurements because it's just based on dissolving borax in water to the point that the borax will no longer dissolve. So fill whatever container you want to use to store your solution with water. Slowly add borax to it, stirring to dissolve. Once you find that the borax will no longer dissolve, you have a saturated solution. Essentially the water is full of borax and cannot dissolve any more of it. That's your solution. We mix a small glass of it and put a lid on it when I'm not using it. Depending on how often I'm applying, it can last a couple of weeks. Lately I've been dipping a small cloth into the solution and pressing that against my labia and leaving it there for around 20 minutes-ish. Sometimes I'll re-dip. There's no exact science to the application, however works best for you to get it on there. Cloth, cotton swab, cotton ball...and you're not sounding dumb

Thanks so much for your reply alistar!!!
I get what you are saying... I just mixed a small spray bottle of the saturated borax solution and I am keeping it in my bathroom using it off and on through out the day. Loving my borax soaks in the tub too! Love this forum and all the fabulous information.

I just noticed that a pharmaceutical company has been granted a licence in america for a brand new cream to treat skin problems.
further reading shows that the cream is based upon Boron, from which we get.... Borax....

Very interesting! Thank you for sharing that. Just heading to bed now, but I'll definitely have a read tomorrow.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. This should help people who are worried about borax to give the treatment a try. For centuries people have used natural sources to treat their ailments. Nowdays the pharmaceutical companies examine these same sources, isolate the effective components, put them in pill or cream and charge a lot of money for them (aspirin is an example).

This is very interesting indeed Nel!
Thanks for the links...
In my research I have seen where lots of people are drinking borax, 1/8 of a teaspoon per liter of water. I'm not bold enough to try that yet however I am buying boron from my health food store and adding it to my vitamin, mineral supplement. Not sure if it will work as well as the actual borax but I thought it was worth a try.

I've not been brave enough to try drinking it either, but I feel hopeful that one day I will...I'm still breastfeeding, so that's also a deterrent.

I have been wondering...if we apply it to our genital area and it is fully absorbed, then we are getting it into our system already. Granted not drinking it, but transdermally. I read that steroids in that area are absorbed at 30 percent as opposed to less of a percentage in other parts of the body. That's why they said not to put a bandaid or pad over the steroid. (Granted, I'm new and know very little; but I thought it was interesting) I'm only wondering because since I started the borax, I have had a tiny bit of an upset stomach. Wonder if I'm using too much. May not be related.

Unfortunately I can only speculate. I've been using the borax saturated solution on and off for nearly a year and have not had any reactions that I would place on the use of it. While yes I agree that the borax will be penetrating transdermally (as I steal your word
, I don't think it will be at such a concentration/level that it would affect your stomach.
