An Experiment with Borax

So, I've been in Vietnam now for just over a month. Haven't had any itching, but the white plaque has expanded and looked like a bit more fusing had occured. Panic set in and of course I was trying not to. However, now that we're here, my husband has been able to start doing more research to help me. And he came across some stuff about borax. So we started an experiment 6 days ago. Not using any steroids, but instead each morning and night he's applying to one side a saturated borax solution and the other side a saturated baking soda solution (as we'd read that some people found baking soda helpful). We've been taking photos in order to compare as we progress. As mentioned, we are on day 6 and there is honestly some change! My clitoris which was quite white has returned to pink. And while the whole area still has some white, the pink is really starting to move in more. The biggest changes are on the side with the borax, with some change on the side with the baking soda (but since some of the borax can get rubbed off on that baking soda side we can't say for certain that the baking soda is having a major effect). We are feeling optimistic about this and I will keep everyone posted. During the day I do continue to add vitamin E oil to keep moisturized.

Nice to hear from you on this thread again.  Borax seems to be working for me too.  I was appalled at first when you said you were thinking of ingesting it, but a little research e.g. earth clinic , seems to show that is not unusual.  Best wishes.

      Hi Fran,

Yeah, I'm still not 100% on ingesting borax, I'll do some more research and weigh my options. I feel like I'm pretty stable with my present regime. I'm glad to hear that it's working for you too! Yay!!

Alistar, I tried ingesting borax and went by the advice of an online site whose admins name is Troy. I can’t post the website name here, but has a healthy and natural..kind of name. I liked all the advice in that website and so I tried it. But I got a whole body rash. I saw other people got this too. When I posted a comment on my reaction, they didn’t post it. I found this disturbing because they are not letting people gett feedback from eachother and are hiding important information. Not trusted website in my opinoin.  I just wanted you to know on this. I stopped it after 1 week, when my body was full of rashes. The rash cleared up 1 month later.

Thank you for letting me know! How much was it suggested you take? I know that it's a very, very small amount according to something I read a while ago. Hmm, yeah, will definitely do a ton of research before even attempting this as I think it is something that has to be done with a tremendous amount of care and consideration - I may even give it a pass since the borax topical application is working for me. I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience, and wow, that's just so worrying that a site would hinder the sharing of information like that.

This is what is written at their site:

Add 1/8th of a teaspoon of borax powder and 1/8th of a teaspoon of Himalayan pink rock salt powder to one liter of clean (warm) filtered water. Drink this solution in small amounts throughout the day (eg, 50 ml's taken twenty times throughout the day = 1 liter). You can also mix each dose with extra water to dilute if you find it too strong. This one liter solution should be all gone by the time you go to bed. Continue to do this 6 days a week for a two week period before dropping back to the permanent "maintenance" dose (to keep your lichen sclerosus away for good!)

For your maintenance dose, mix up 5 grams (roughly one teaspoon) of borax and 5 grams of Himalayan pink rock salt in one liter of filtered water. THIS NOW BECOMES YOUR CONCENTRATED SOLUTION. Store in your pantry for safe keeping. Take 5-10 ml's of this concentrated solution in a glass of filtered water once to twice daily indefinitely (yes, for the rest of your life!) So for clarification, this concentrated solution (maintenance solution) should last you anywhere between 50 & 100 days if you're taking it correctly.

Also keep in mind that depending on your current level of health or any pre-existing health problems you may have, a mild to severe detoxing reaction or worsening of symptoms may be experienced when consuming the 1 liter solution (the one you have for the first two weeks). If this does happen to you then simply halve the dosages (1/16th of a teaspoon instead of 1/8th). The concentrated "maintenance" solution should not cause a problem though. If you have any doubts or concerns, consult with your health care professional first.

I started with maintenance dose so to start slowly and then I got the rash

      Hi Alistar,

I know exactly the website era41962 is referring too.  I started that protocol before I started the one on the thread.  I've been ingesting borax since April this year.  I did not get a rash or anything major as a side effect.  The first couple of days on the higher dose of the borax I felt like a yeast infection and bladder infection we're starting and then my symptoms went away within 4-6 days.  My body was releasing toxins.  I enjoyed doing it because I felt like it was a cleansing effect and was removing all the crud inside.  I do the maintenance now.   Wish we could share the site it's very informative.

Could you send me the link in a private email through this site? I'm very curious.

      Hi Alistar

I bought Boron capsules at my local health food shop and have been taking them, I read an FDA site where they said a course of 50 days increased bone density in post menopausal women. I take one every now and again when I remember and haven't noticed any difference, positive or negative, though I haven't broken a toe in a while (I'm very clumsy!).

My doctor is a dermatology specialist. I've just had my regular checkup with her, she's read the 'Experiment with Borax' thread and is recommending her other LS patients read it. She's thrilled at my progress. There is hope...

      Hi there!

I've heard about boron capsules. Not sure if I could find them here in Vietnam! Although who knows, maybe I could very easily. It'll all depend on Google translate! Glad to hear you haven't broken any toes!!

Wow, as for your doctor, that's so great! I LOVE hearing news like that. And it's posts like yours that can often make a difference for a person to give this a try. That is just so fantastic!! Thank you for sharing such wonderful news!

My doctor is a gyno and said after my regular control visit - keep doing what you're doing.  I haven't asked whether he would recommend my 'treatment' to other LS sufferers.  Next time.

    Hi Alistar,

I started using your borax solution 1 month ago, but I am not sure if I am using enough borax, since mine has trouble dissolving. Would it be possible for you to send me a picture of your solution, to see its consistency?

So far, it has not changed anything to the aspect of my skin. Has it helped reducing the inflammation and/or the white plaques?

    Thanks

      Hi Amy,

If I were to take a picture of my saturated solution it would just appear to be clear water - sometimes some of the borax crystals settle to the bottom, and if that does happen I just give the solution a shake. When you're adding the borax to the water just add it slowly, dissolving a bit as you go. Once it will no longer dissolve then you have your saturated solution.

How many times a day are you applying it? How are you applying it? So far as been documented here, women either have success in their response to the solution or some have needed to alter the solution, making it weaker as they've found it too strong. When I say success, I mean that the inflammation goes down, eliminates itchiness and white plaque. We are all a little different with regards to LS, so the reaction time varies.

Thanks for your reply, that helps smile

I am applying the borax with a cotton pad every night before going to bed. It is difficult to do it more often as I cannot really do this when I am at work. I am also drinking the borax solution, as recommended on another website. I have to say that the itchiness has stopped, but there is still some redness, fusing and white plaques.

I have just been diagnosed with LS after a biopsy from my perineum. I was so embarrassed about my changes down there that I didn't want to discuss anything other thanI have itching and thickness in the tissue, and I tear from any friction from clothes etc. I was told I can expect changes because i am now post menopausal. Now thatI have founda page where others are so open I feel safe to talk now. I never realized that i was fusing. Who thinks that? I just thought getting older sucks. .I'm not pretty anymore. Now i am full blown panic that I let this go as my new normal. Sadly I am also newly married and I dread the pain of sex. And go alternative as much as possible. Now I have had to explain this whole ordeal to my husband. I'm so sad. I'm using vaginal cream for dryness and now Clob for the fused small labia and discovered the hood to my clitoras is somewhat fused. I hope while he is stationed away the next few months this clears up. I want to try the borax you are talking about but have only used the Clob for about a week. Wonder if I can use both alternating. Is anyone changing their diets since this is an autoimmune condition? Is anyone thinking this can be caused by stress or changing hormones?

Thank you for letting me in to the discussion.

Yes, Julia, you can alternate clob with borax.  Start with small amounts to see how your skin reacts.  Look also at your diet - sugar is a trigger for many.  Eat home made food, no packaged food that stays good forever.  Read the various discussion to learn more about what has helped others.

       Hi Julia,

Yep, stress is big trigger for this, so do your best not to. Ha, right? So hard, especially when you learn about this disease for the first time because you have it! It's terrifying. But many women are finding success with this borax treatment, so hopefully you will too. Alas we all have this disease for life, but through this thread and others you'll find lots of ways women are handling it. As for your diet, like Hanny mentioned, sugar can trigger, as can dairy, alcohol, wheat. Unfortunately, seems like there're lots of triggers, but the trick is figuring out yours. LS is a little different for everyone. As I've mentioned many times, when you start this borax treatment take photos. They really help to show you if you're improving. And if you are, they really help keep that stress at bay upon realizing that there is something that can help that isn't a steroid!
