Ankle Fusion

ive had a double ankle fusion with a cacalneal osteotomy 3 weeks ago. Should I still be in this much pain? I'm still having to take oxycodone especially at night. It doesn't feel like any healing has taken place at all. Is this is?

      Hi Danette,

What did you have done to your ankle? Last night is the first night I didn't take any pain killers. I woke up in the night not in pain so much but felt so swollen that it felt like my foot was going to bust through the soft cast. The biggest concern I had yesterday was my foot was so cold it was almost numb. I couldn't get it warm all day. It was about three hours after I went to bed that it started to thaw. That's twice that's happened & it feels awful.

I also have three weeks in today. This is a lot harder than what I thought it would be. I'd give anything to be able to stretch that foot out right now.

Good luck with your healing journey. Keep me posted. Sending prayers your way.

    Hi Barb,

I had to have my peroneal tendon repaired, along with the ligaments. 2 of my 3 ligaments were missing and the 3rd one was shredded. So he had to repair that, I'm getting the stitches out I'm hoping I can move my foot a little. My uncomfortably comes at night too last night I didn't sleep a wink. I don't know if it's anxiety or what. With your numbness have you tried to elavate a little higher? I would call the doctor about the coldness I haven't experienced that.

    Praying for you,

    Danette

I'm not in an air cast boot & non weight bearing for another two months. Last night was my first night sleeping in this boot as I'm told to keep it on 24/7. I find that the plastic part that goes in the front was driving into my incisions & creating more pain. I removed it & it felt so much better. I tried to wear it with the plastic thing today & the same thing. Creates more pain so I'm leaving it off. Anyone else have this issue?

Yep I had the same thing too! The front plastic bit was never worn in the house and I only managed 2wks with it on in bed before I threw it across the bedro floor! Xx

Mine came with extra sponge pads so I stuffed them in where it seemed to rub.  Do whatever makes you more comfortable!!

I guess I've been really lucky so far. I haven't needed any pain meds. I took an aspirin once a day for 5 weeks but that was to prevent blood clots. I'm on week 6 now with swelling and minor irritations but not bad. I hope your pain lessens soon to where you don't need any meds.

Did you have surgery. I'm Pretty tough but had pain relief in the beginning but did too much damage to me. Allergies and sideffects are disgusting. I still have pain. Break was march 24. Back at work. Tiring but good.
