Lisa, I also have some trouble sleeping and not quite sure why.  Initially, it was the discomfort of the boot, but now that that's gone, don't know.  I do find melatonin helps greatly, 10mg 1/2 hour before going to bed, but you say you've tried that.  Are you taking any other medication?  Maybe too many naps during the day as we have nothing else to do??!  ;-)

Hey Ron.... No naps but still slow moving maybe my type A personality going from 100 to 0 is what it is... I was using 5mg of Melatonin wasn't sure if a higher dose was safe will up the dose tonight to see if that works...I hope so ... not on any other meds so maybe that will do the trick

Hi. I see you're talking about sleep! I just learned that taking a calcium pill before bed helps you sleep. They say calcium relaxes your muscles. I started taking my calcium and D3 before bed and noticed I sleep much sounder, sometimes 8hrs straight thru. (According to my Fitbit! Just a few restless periods). Just thought I'd pass that along--we could all use the calcium I guess!

Hey has anyone tried the Tommy Copper ankle brace or socks saw them at my local discount store today they seem pricey just wondering if anyone has had luck with them? Lisa

Hi Lisa- I looked the "Tommie Copper Ankle Socks" up because I was really curious after your post. Thanks for posting. They looked really interesting. I was wondering if they would really work and found an article online if you search "science around michigan WHAT DOES SCIENCE SAY? COPPER COMPRESSION CLOTHES " that you can see also. Be sure to click on the two parts in the article that are highlighted ("here" and "here" in the article) for the results of the tests done, with placebo and control groups, to see if the copper technology truly helps people with copper wrist bands etc. It seems to say maybe it doesn't work, but it wouldn't hurt to try them ourselves and see if they help. Some people on the reviews on Amazon said they felt they did help them.

I was also trying to follow Patti123. Not sure how to connect with her. So, I will try this way. I am new out of surgery and feel like....what the H! Working in the yard after just closing on a house and break! Not a good house warming gift! I just became full weight bearing and I can't put any weight on my foot. I can't get the area between the front of my foot and my ankle to flex. I am not a fan of the screws either! I thought I would read what yall say in hopes I will have a support group.

Hey Susan! I'm 18 mos out and have great news for you. I still have my plate and 11 screws in and never feel them. Ankles take a long time to heal and you will need to have a lot of patience, but you WILL get better. Be happy and positive and people will help you get through this! The hardest thing I ever made it through for sure! Eat a lot of kale and avoid drinking alcohol the first 8 weeks for proper bone healing. The human body has an amazing capacity to heal itself!! I've learned here online that people who smoke don't heal well, so if your smoke- quit! Luckily, I never have. Everyone should get an Even-Up to help them walk once they can weight bear. Before that, a knee scooter keeps you feeling human. Hang in there. This support group is awesome! Step by step you will get there!!!

Hi Patti.  Can we connect on Face Book?  I figure that is safe instead of putting an email on the medium.

?I don't smoke, never have.  I have been laying off the alcohol.  I don't drink much anyway.  Last Thursday, August 24, my stitches were removed from the left side of my right ankle, (which I do have a support installed with screws) and stitches removed from the right side of the right ankle, ( no support installed only screws).  The left ankle doesn't bother me at all.  The right ankle does hurt sometimes.  It feels like the screw is pushing on the bone.  I did tell my doctor but he said the symptoms should resolve. I am using occasionally a walker with wheels.  I also am using a knee scooter (which I love).  My daughter says I look like I am having fun!  I said its better than the walker.  But, getting back to walking and driving is the goal.  I am really glad you responded to me. This gives me more hope.  My lifestyle is changing...I used to hike, roller skate, garden, bicycle, do 5k's.  Now, I am just trying to get back to walking.  Anyway, I can now move my toes, the swelling is going down on my right foot and I can see the bone structure in my foot again.  Still the dorsi flexion needs to greatly improve!  My doctor says I am on full weight bearing but, I am nervous about it.  PT starts next week, 3x per week.  Hope I am walking and driving soon. I am still taking hydrocodone, resting and applying ice.

I just private messaged you. There is a way to do it on this site. You can read my old posts to see how things progressed for me and my several friends online here. We are all great now. It took us all 12-18 months to get to the 99-100% healed point.

      Hi.  Patti,

?I was wondering with conversations you have had with other people regarding medicine for pain.  I am looking for something to take alternately with Advil.  I was taking hydrocodone which seemed to work well with my pain and I really felt great (not the drugged kind of great) but functional.  He doesn't want to refill the drug because it is addictive.  He suggested Tylenol with Codeine but that does not affect me at all.  So, is there any otc drug besides Tylenol which my doctor also recommends, but it doesn't seem to relieve my pain.  I am not a fan of Tylenol.  Advil works better for me, but to much ibuprofen is not good for the system.
