Another patient's video of Alcon Vivity IOL. True or False?

I just watched youtube video called "Dr. Nagel’s Cataract Surgery - Vivity Implantable Lifestyle Lens" where the guy decided to go with PanOptix+Vivity combo. Do you think it is just another marketing video of that clinic and the new IOL or a legit and deliberate decision made by that patient? Thank you!

Are you referring to the one done in April 2021?
I think the vast majority of business creating Youtube videos are at least in some part doing marketing.
The video I saw done in April to me looked 100% marketing with the patient even promoting the business and providing ZERO useful information. This IMHO is BAD marketing.
To me GOOD marketing is where the business provides useful information and at the same time establish them selves as experts without having to say it. At most they barely mention their company or just throw it up with contact info at the end.
An example of pretty good marketing IMHO would be Dr. Shannon Wong's videos.
Even though I watch these type of vidoes and even have posted them on here, these type of videos should only play a small part in one's overall decision as they are typical anecdotal evidence of a single patients results.
There are videos where the Opthamologist is presenting the clinical trial results, which can be very informative. Again just part of the puzzle when making an IOL selection.

I have not seen the video as I have made up my mind on where I am going. I discounted the PanOptix when my first eye was done, primarily based on experience a friend had with them in both eyes. My surgeon also prompted me by saying he would not put them in his own eyes. Then along came Vivity, and I seriously investigated that lens for my second eye. But my conclusion at the end of it was that with monovision two monofocal lenses are just as good or better than a monovision plus and EDOF. That and the more than expected negative reviews here on the Vivity has prompted me to take that out of consideration. I may go with a Clareon monofocal if that version is available and at a reasonable extra price (hopefully zero) when it comes time to do my second eye.

is that different monofocal than what u already have? if so then why?

Not really different. It is Alcon's latest generation of lenses. If it becomes mainstream and covered by our healthcare I will consider it. However I am perfectly happy with the AcrySof version I have now. You can find out about all the claimed improvement by googling this:

Could you tell me what kind of negative reviews on Vivity you've read? I'm considering this lense and any trying to gather as much info as possible. BTW, I'll be operated by Dr. Shannon Wang. Thank!

Have a look at this link if it gets posted; Just Had Vivity Lens Implanted 3 Weeks. There are other threads that talk about it as well. One thing to consider is that it is mainly people that are having issues with their IOL that come here. That probably creates a bit of a negative bias toward any personal comments about the various lenses. The Vivity is claimed to be almost halo and flare free, but some are reporting those complications. I find it surprising, but who knows, people see what they see, and there is no way to look through someone else's eyes!

Agree with Ron on people who comment on forums such as this. Vast majority of cataract surgeries go very well and people aren't looking for a forum to discuss it. It is when things go wrong that people search for them. Exception are people like you Dreamer who get diagnosed with cataracts and start researching on their own. Not sure what that percentage would be and that might give an indication of their 'personality type' as well. That includes me as the diagnosis was so unexpected.
If I hadn't developed Epiretinal membrane I would say I was mostly satisfied with outcome with EDOF lenses. Still because I am younger than usual cataract patient this is a trade off vs a gain. I was informed of that by my surgeon though.
Also think most videos out there are marketing tools. Your best to go for several consults and choose a surgeon with good reputation and go with their recommendation.

can you tell me what the issue was with Panoptix?

as any trifocal IOL, PanOptix lenses have well-known side effects and unwanted visual phenomena. By the way, according to Dr. Uday Devgan, MD (Clinical ophthalmology professor and one of the best cataract surgeons in California) only 8% of his patients choose trifocals (mostly Alcon PanOptix). You can't cheat physics... trifocals split light causing serious drop in contrast sensitivity and chromatic aberration. I've seen online sample photos created in photoshop based on patients testimonials.. it wasn't pleasant for my eyes... that's why doctors don't recommend trifocals to people who conciser themselves as perfectionists. Many (not all!) people with these lenses losing abilities to drive at night due to dysphotopsias, poor contrast and visual acuity. So far I've seen 3 different ophthalmologists ( original and 2nd and 3d opinion) and none of them would get a trifocals in their own eyes when I asked that common question. If you need some expert opinion about different IOLs, I'd suggest to find YouTube Channel "Eye Surgery Explained" by the guy named Alex. He's very experienced optical specialist and has dozens of videos about IOLs. I had a personal consultation with him and he also didn't recommend me to go with trifocal lenses. But once again we are all different and I've seen many people that got PanOptix and love them.

my surgery is in 6 weeks... After almost 3 months I've decided to get Vivity in my more impacted LE and then go from there basically facing 3 options:
a) get Vivity for second eye (if totally satisfied)
b) get monofocal AcrySoft or Clareon for second eye
c) exchange Vivity for AcrySoft ( if totally unsatisfied)

I am half done with the vivity + panoptix combo. I got the Vivity three weeks ago in my dominate eye and so far I LOVE IT. I thought my left eye (corrected with contacts) was perfect 2020, but with the Vivity in my right eye, I can see way better than my left including brighter colors and better whites. Clearly, my left was not perfect. I set up a dozen tests at home before my first surgery, so I could see for myself if things were better or worse. One test was a pen light in a dark room. At ten feet away, my old cataract lens had a five foot light cloud around the pen light (very bad). My left "good" eye about two feet. My new vivity lens has less than a foot of "light cloud" (halo?) around the pen light. It is very sharp.
I know that putting the Panoptix in my left eye is going to create halos at night, but I've talked to a few people that have done the Vivity+Panoptix and they are happy with the results. The trade-off is being able to read up close (12") vs. needing readers. I think that is a good trade-off, but I won't know for a while. I will report back.

Very helpful. thank you. When is your second surgery? My first, with vivity, is in four days.

My surgery for the panoptix in the left eye is on Friday (in 5 days). i expect it will take at least a few days to settle in and will take months for my brain to filter out more of the halo/noise at night.
