    Hi

I said 2nd anterior and posterior repair done on 1st May. I found after 4 weeks I was feeling pretty good. I went back to walking 4.5kms and swimming 3kms ... not I the same day! I still spent the afternoon lying down for a few hours and wasn't doing anything 2 strenuous. I went back 2 work after 7 weeks. The first week back I felt a bit more tired than usual but nothing more than that. After 6 weeks I went 2 see pelvic floor physio and have been doing exercises everyday. In less than 2 weeks we r off on overseas holiday for a month and I'm feeling confident about going. Before my surgery I was wondering if I'd be up to it. I'm definately going 2 let my hubby lift all the bags tho!

Everyone has a different experience. I'm thinking it might depend on ur level of health and fitness prior to surgery how quickly u repair and heal. Some ladies recommend months off work ... that wasn't possible for me and my specialist was happy for 6weeks off which I pushed out to 7.5 weeks. But honestly I felt well enough to go back. Good luck.

      Hi Kym04,

I had a vaginal hysterectomy with rectocele repair done 4 days ago and I had no clue it would be this incapacitating.  I’m very grateful to hear of your recovery experience and hope I have something similar.  I’m 41 and didn’t even know I had a rectocele but now, looking back at the symptoms I was experiencing, it makes perfect sense.  Were you terrified that every little thing you did post surgery would ruin your repair?  I didn’t do any research prior to surgery because I didn’t want to get completely freaked out but wished I had now.    I thought the hysterectomy would be the more major part of the surgery and not the rectocele repair but clearly I was wrong. How long did you wait until you left the house and went for car rides?  I’m already so depressed about my limitations.

Hi ... no I wasn't terrified I'd ruin the repair. I'm sure they stitch it all up quite tightly but u really need 2 give urself time to heal which means rest. I was walking around our 2 acre block at 2 weeks post op and 3-4 weeks r started walking around the block 4.5kms albeit slowly. Exercise also aids healing increased blood flow to the area etc but only do wots comfortable. I walked in the morning and rested in the afternoon. By 4 weeks I was back swimming laps at the pool. I was driving by 3 weeks but only short trips. Was out and about having lunch dates at 3-4 weeks but found extended sitting made my lower abdo ache so I'd lie down again for the afternoon. I have a fairly active job and I'm mindful of wot I do and how I undertake my duties but I feel capable enuf 2 be there. Hope this helps u 🤗😊

      Hi liege82088

I am 3 weeks and 5 days post op after having hysterectomy and rectocoele . I’m 44 and it came as a massive shock to me to. I went for my first car ride on Sunday but didn’t drive as I definitely know I can’t do that yet. The ladies on here are great and give some fantastic advice. Rest rest and more rest is the main thing I think. Like you I’m scared of doing anything that will ruin my repair. I have already lost a stitch, maybe 2 on my perineum but my gp says it should heal on its own. I have a follow up with my consultant in 2 and a half weeks time.

Just make sure your never constipated and only do small walks around the house and don’t lift anything heavier than a cup of tea ( I still only do this now )

I didn’t get any information from my consultant and when I asked him what my limitations were he said do what you feel you can and you can hoover if you want to. When I mentioned that on here to one of the other ladies she told me that would be a crazy thing to do and I have to agree.

I also thought the hysterectomy would be the major part of the op but I think that was a doddle compared to the repair.

I really hope you start to feel better soon and don’t push yourself and give yourself plenty of time x x

    Hi Kas

I have had the same three times plus some extra stuff. I’m 66 and fit. It took about 3 months to feel like there wasn’t this bulky mass between my legs. it took 4 months to be able to get back to pre surgery activities but still find I can’t stand or sit for very long.

I would not consider going back to work under 3 to 4 months unless you don’t mind having repeat surgery.  Those that don’t give the body enough time to heal will pay the consequences later there are no medals  for short cuts with this surgery.

Wishing you lots of patience Kas

Hi, I’m 3 weeks post op for hysterectomy and posterior repair. I’m 44 and can honestly say this op has knocked me off my feet. I’ve had lots of helpful advice off the ladies on this forum as the consultant didn’t give me any info. When I asked him what I could and couldn’t do he said I could do as much as I felt like doing and could hoover if I felt up to it. I’m still struggling to walk straight and one of my stitches has popped open so very sore and lifting anything heavier than a cup of coffee makes me feel very uncomfortable . Ive seen my gp who said I need to be kind to myself and let myself heal which is advice I’m definitely going to take notice of. You only really get one chance at this.

Take it easy and don’t push yourself to much. I’ve been given a 4 week sick note from the hospital but will definitely be getting another 4 week sick note from my gp.

Hope you feel better soon x

Oohhh bobsey I'd be very careful with a popped stitch so early on..have you seen your consultant about it as he is the one who did your repair.. Our gp don't really understand like the consultant does. I had a loose stitch at 2 wks on my last report when it failed. Be careful.xx

      Hi

No I haven’t seen my consultant yet. I did have an appt two weeks after my op to see him but they then said that was to soon so I have to go 6 weeks post op which will be in 2 and a half weeks time.

Im trying to be really careful. It is still very sore and it seems to be on the perineum where the stitch has popped open, I think it may even be two stitches now 🙈 Dr gave me lidocaine which does help a little with the stinging. I’m still getting the heavy falling out feeling if I walk around to much. It is definitely going to be a long recovery 🙁 x x

      Hiya

I don’t think I can see him any earlier. When I spoke to his secretary she was quite adamant it had to be 6 weeks post op check up. I feel like I’ve taken 2 steps forward and 10 back today. My tummy is hurting which I’m guessing is down to the hysterectomy and I’m aching and really sore and I’ve got that horrible pressure feeling up my bottom again. I had that’s feeling for the first couple of weeks but then it went but has come back. I only walked for about 20 mins yesterday so surely that can’t be it? Did you ever feel like this? Just as I thought things were getting just a little easier I know feel like I’m going back to how I was at the beginning 🙁 x x

I had no pain from my tvh or anterior repair except wind pain day 1 to day 4.no vaginal pain at all. I had swollen tummy for months, still do by evening and I'm very slim😏

No bottom issues as didn't get back wall done.

Its all very common what your experiencing hun.

I'm a bit shocked that they won't see you before.... Considering you have a concern.not good but I guess you are nhs?x

Saw doc today and I’ve got a uti so on antibiotics and maybe infection but won’t know until swab results come back, so at least that explains the tummy pain.

Yes I’m under the nhs so to be fair I can understand why I have to wait.

I’ve been given another 4 week sick note so I’ll just have to keep on resting .

      Thanks for listening x
