Hi All, Just to update you on recent visits to my doc.
Had sore throat as you know from previous messages, that turned to chest infection, had Amoxicillin for 7 days , didnt touch me, went back saw doc had another 5 days same antibiotic, still no change, finally went back again at daughters insistance & was given a peak flow thingy to blow into, & a Ventolin inhaler, though I havent got asthma.
First time I blew into the thingy, it registered 160, low I was told , has now improved to 300 .
anyone any idea what the flow number should be?
Still not feeling right , still hoping it will clear up soon.
My daughter has just gone to her sisters till she flies back to N/Z on Tuesday , we had a great time even though I wasnt 100%
P.M.R. though behaved on the 12 .5.dosage.
I miss her already, but finding little notes from her all over the house , in my reading book, wardrobe door, under my pillow, etc. Makes me cry when I find them, then happy because she loves her old Mum .
Hope you are all having a pain free day.
Cheers Amycakes.

Do hope that chest infection clears soon - my son had one a couple of years ago that proved really difficult to shift with a couple of courses of antibiotics and even a special one taken over just 2 days - and it finally resolved with a couple of different inhalers. I remember at the time I was worried that it would develop into asthma.
Glad to hear the PMR is behaving itself though - long may that continue. :D

They also gave him 30mg steroids for 10 days & he has to see doc on wednesday.
Didnt feel so well last night, shivery & came to bed about 8 p.m had high temperature once in bed took paracetamols, & a wet flannel to wipe my face to cool me down.
Stayed in bed for a few hours today, so hoping to feel more myself later on.
Thanks again for your advice, much appreciated.

Glad you have enjoyed having your daughter over here - I bet the tongues were wagging away putting the world to rights!
I would think you are bound to feel a bit down, you've waited so long for the visit and now it is nearly over - be kind to yourself for a few weeks.
Peak Flow readings are not only individual but there seems to be a knack to it that I haven't got. In all these years my highest reading has been 320 and on my check-ups it's usually a lot lower than that. They do now seem to accept that I am never going to make a model patient.

I know so many people with chest infections at the moment even people who arent prone and have never had them before Some of them have taken a month to get over them but they do go in the end
I have been keeping my fingers crossed that I wont get it as well as earlier in the year I couldnt get rid of throat infections !
Hopefully the Dr will give you something stronger to make it go away
Best wishes

update is went back to doc, have now got third antibiotic to take , plus guess what she upped my dose of steroids to 40mg for 3 days then 30mg for 7 days, then I guess I can go back on to 12.5 again.
Had 2 days in bed , up today after taking the extra steroids.
I must admit my heart sank when I saw the little red tablets in quantity again.
Daughter still in the air, such a long .long flight.
Hope you are all ok .Thank you for being there for me.

Steroids are given for other illnesses as well, so the Doc is probably on the right track. A short boost can work wonders.

Just an update on the chest infection my husband & I have had,
He had an appointment with doc & outcome he had to go into M.A.U. at our local hospital.
Had another chest xray, awaiting results, was put on a strong antibiotic intraveniously, this has helped him cough up .
Trouble is he has so many other health problems ,so they are keeping an eye on him, have to stay in 3/4 more days.
Myself , have taken the last of the antibiotics, so hoping things will improve now.
Not such a bad cough now, though can blow my nose every 5 mins, muscles in tummy sore from coughing
Have lost some hearing in my right ear, its muffled, assuming its through blowing my nose so hard, but the antibiotic side effects say could cause hearing loss[ringing], it sounds more like white noise.Hope it will come back now off the medication, otherwise another trip to the doc.
Anyone else had this before?
They say it never rains but it pours, could do without all the stress, worried about my husband , not enjoying being at home alone, but at least I can visit everyday.
Extra steroids ok, just nervous of how it will be when I return to my previous dosage.
Hope you are all ok today.
Cheers Amycakes.

Your suggestion of a bed next to him is a good one too!
We had a bowel check some weeks ago, & Bob had the nurses in stitches as we did end up next to one another, he said you buy one you get one free. Its a good job he has a great sense of humour , that keeps us both going.
Hope you are feeling better.

I do hope that at least this last lot of antibiotics has now done the trick for you. As for your \"muffled\" hearing, has the GP had a look? Perhaps the conjestion has blocked up the ear and it needs a simple syringe. I have to have my right ear micro-sunctioned once a year due to an eczema-type condition plus it doesn't like giving up its natural wax! I also have occasional bouts of tinnitus in that ear. That's not much fun so I do hope your's will soon clear if it is in fact a side effect of all the antibiotics, but I would get the Dr to have a look if I were you.
Do hope hubby and his wonderful sense of humour is home with you again soon so that you can finally relax a bit.

All the nose blowing could mean wax moving I would get it checked out as syrnging is a simple thing they just like you to put drops in for a few days before My husband has his done quite often but when he didnt before we flew once the flying made hm deaf and he ended up in a private clinic having them syringed and a bill for £ 170 Luckily the insurance paid !!
A friend of mine had to go to A&E recently as she burst a blood vessel in her nose with all the coughing There does seem to be a horrible chest infection around at the moment that lingers I have been surrounded by it but fingers crossed at the moment
Really hope you both improve soon

I didn't know about AB causing deafness but come to think of it the only time I had to have my ears syringed was after a course. Nurse said had I put oil in?. Yes. What sort? Olive. What sort of olive?. Small pause then I admitted it was from the bottle I use for cooking.... Good, it works much better than the stuff from the chemist. No explanation but never had any trouble since.
Best of luck to you both Betty
