anxiety - muscle weakness and aches legs and arms - LONG

Hi All,

I have recently moved overseas and for 3 months I have been doing not much, but I have been smoking a pack of smokes a day and drinking 4 coffees a day while I try to find a job. I must admit, I have been feeling the pressure of moving to another country, stressing to find a job, and I haven’t been active or proactive which I feel might be affecting my health. One day I woke up and I felt these aches in my arms and legs. I shrugged it off as just long day walking around but then it stayed with me for the last 2 months. I got really worried because these aches started off as like fatigued legs and arms, weakness, and now they feel weakness and achy. I feel it in both limbs equally. They feel achy when I walk for a long time or stand in a spot for a while. Besides that, i have been diagnosed with anxiety before and had a few panic attacks about 2 years ago .

I have gone to a Neurosurgeon (3 for different opinions) and all have came back with negative results in regards to my MRI for Full Spine scan and Brain scan. So I’ve ruled that out. I’ve also done a full blood test results including anaemia and cortisol and that came back good. i also did an ECG and visited to Neurologist for a EMG and came back fine. I even went to a psychiatrist and she believes its anxiety and prescribed me xanax 0.5mg (I don’t even feel those tablets do anything). Now I’m feeling lost and will be seeing a vascular specialist to check my arteries in my legs and arms. I’ve read online that anxiety can definitely cause muscle aches and pains. The aches also go to my feet. When I clench my feet I feel it achy and sore. I just don’t believe anxiety can do this to someone and make them feel aches and pains for 2 months long! Mentally I feel ok, not stressed atm, but these symptoms won’t go away. Though, I keep thinking about this all day for the past 2 months.

Has anyone felt what I’m going through?

Can Anxiety cause these symptoms to stay with an individual for this long?

Please someone help! This is affecting my lifestyle. sad

Thanks

Its probably your life style that is causing your anxiety

    Coffee and nicotine are stimulants.

These are all common anxiety symptoms

you could have saved yourself on paying all those medical bills by shopping for food instead.  I don't think that you have been eating properly.

What about supplements.. Have you tried b complex, b12, magnessium glycinate? Maybe you just have a little deficiency going on. Stress depletes a lot of nuteition as does coffee and cigarettes and poor diet. Try some suppliments and drink a lot of water that can help too. Maybe that will just be enough to get you through so you can focus on work. I have a b12  issue and i get injections, they did make a difference. Different symptoms though. Chronic stress does effect the body, how could it not.

Have you recieved any kind of diagnosis from any of the doctors you have seen yet? Add b12 it goes under your tongue and dissolves and a Magnessium glycinate. This way your armed with the needed nutritients at least. And drink lots of water, even if your not thirsty, it really helps soften the muscles and helps everything move better. You are still in the midst of getting examinations and at some point you will have some answers. Im very impressed you quit smoking by the way. Very impressed. As stupid as this is going to sound, but it isnt add bananas, avacadoes to your diet they are great during nicotine withdrawl and high magnessium and high potassium. if you have a juicer..celery juice. It will help with the nicotine withdrawls and is massively healthy. Eating it is harder on the belly the juicer removes the heavy fiber aspect.  Drink 8-10 ounces a day. If you hate the taste throw in a pear or an apple. Maybe all this healthy new lifestyle help a lot and the body will just start healing itself a bit. Feel better and good luck on your exam with the vascular doctor. So far you know the nuero is good and the cardio is good. So thats a big positives. Lastly be sure your bed is comfortable and the mattress is in good shape. Just in case at the possibilty of pinched nerve happening. Yes anxiety can cause this too, but its good you are making sure thats the situatiion first. Feel better.

Yes, they have told me they believe its anxiety. My neurosurgeon, my GP and psychiatrist all think that. I just don't know how my weakness and aches in my feet and ankles are caused by anxiety. That's beyond me. I feel completly normal but this still happens. Its been 2 months long and it hasn't gone away.

      I drink heapssss of water.

I'll see how I go when I visit the Vascular Specialist tomorrow and update. Cheers!

Try quit smoking for a bit, see how you feel. I used to feel like a grampa every morning, stiff legs arm etc(when i smoked). Cutting it helped a bit Apart from leg weakness any other serious symptoms ?

I have forgot to mention, I have quit smoking since my symptoms occurred. I've stopped drinking coffee, and been a little healthier now. I do regular exercise, I feel aches the next day after doing a 30min run. I never use to feel achy after a run or the next day.

Am I going crazy? Is this really anxiety?

I think your best bet is to see your GP. My leg muscles are achy especially when i try to move for abit. I have neurological as well as anxiety problem. So i dont know what exactly causing this. Keep pushing your GP unless your problem is solved! Took them long time until they started taking me seriously

      Hi Kayla,

Is this ALL related to just anxiety? i.e the weakness and achy feeling? How long have you had this? Are you on any meds?

      Thanks

I've been told it is a part of anxiety. I've even seen it online. But I keep thinking all of it is something worse. I have a therapy appointment on the 1st. Honestly, I feel like it won't help me. But I've gotta give it a shot. Right? The fogginess has been going on since November of last year, but the weird aches have been around for a couple of months now.
