Anxiety? Perimenopause? Both? Overwhelming Physical Symptoms.

So....I'll try to be brief. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder last March, after suffering a panic attack while traveling for business. Since then, I've had a multitude of daily physical symptoms...dizziness/lightheadedness, body aches, headaches, insomnia, night sweats, increased body temperature, feeling weak in my limbs, general fatigue, shakiness....you name it, I've had it. I've just about worn out my welcome at my GP's office, I've been there so often....I've been to the emergency room four times, had an MRI, multiple ECGs, countless rounds of bloodwork, an upper endoscopy...everything comes back clear. So why do I feel so sick all the time? I did have my hormone levels checked, and my doctor confirmed that I'm at least perimenopausal (I'm 45 years old)....could all of these symptoms (and truly, they occur daily) be related to perimeopause? I've developed a serious issue wtih health anxiety due to all of this, because I can't accept that these symptoms are harmless...I'm convinced that something catastrophic is wrong with me. Help!!!

    Hello wearykitty

Hope you don't mind me asking how you coping now, and what you done to help you cope. I've just been told I'm menopausal I'm 53 been struggling since Jan 17 with anxiety, cannot believe menopause can make us feel like this.

Hello wearykitty. I am still here! Please don't feel bad about yourself. smile If you feel that your doc is not helping you - go to another. Have you tried seeing a Gyn? When I was at my lowest point - I did use hormone therapy. For my case - it was like day and night. I slowly weaned myself off the patch after a year and now still have mild episodes of hotflashes. I do take a very small dose of overthecounter sleep aide to make sure I do not miss out on sleep. I trudge out of bed in the am and do a brisk walk and keep my my mind busy. Find that doctor that makes you feel cared for. Hope this helps!

Hi Everyone, One thing that I've recently learned is through some preventive genetic testing. I would advise that you all read about the MTHFR gene variant. It has to do with how well we can process our B vitamins through methylation. If one carries one or both genes, this gene variant can contribute to anxiety. I just found out that I have a copy of the C677T and the A1298C gene mutation. (Look up these gene variants online, too) So these can be related to anxiety. There are other genes related to anxiety, but these two have been studied greatly. Please read about them online.

I now take take a simple folate vitamin with methyl folate. My brightness and mood have increased now because I'm processing the B vitamins. Thorne makes a MTHFR folate, also, Methyl Folate L-5-MTHF with Metafolin by Douglas Laboratories. My doctor advised to start taking the vitamin whether I get the test or not because the gene variant is so common.

Now that I know that  I inherited a single but different gene from each parent, meaning I didn't get the double whammy MTHFR (two copies of the same gene), I simply take one or two of the supplements a day and feel so much better. It is common so I bet many of you have the MTHFR.Quest Labs are a spin-off of the Cleveland Clinic and are national. In some states, you can request the blood test yourself. In other states, such as Ohio, a doctor must order the test. Some insurance covers this test. If you self-pay, it will cost $186. Prices will continue to go down on all genetic testing as more information is learned.

I hope that this information will help many many of you! All the best to you!

I have suffered the exact same for 10yrs plus, yet still I'm not sure if the Drs have got it rite, as these physical symptoms are so strong, yet they always happen out the blue, no warning what's so ever.

they absolutely knock the hell out of me, leaving me drained, yet 4 of my GP's have done nothing to help, they just give me some pills that are useless, even the COGNATIVE behaviour done nothing.

10 yrs a lot of time to go through this and I have severely aged with it, drained me.

I wish there was a answer to this, would not wish this on anyone.

Thank you for sharing this. I've been dealing with debilitating anxiety for the past couple of months and I'm assuming it's due to perimenopause. I haven't gotten my period for 3 months now and 4 months ago it was just spotting. I'm noticing the anxiety is constant. I have tried natural remedies to balance hormones, but that didn't work. I'm on a high dose of b12, vit D, B complex, calcium, magnesium, zinc, ginseng. I've been doing deep breathing, prayer, affirmations, guided meditations with hardly any relief. I started Cymbalta 40mg again 5 days ago after being off of it for 4 months and nothing seems to be helping. I have had to take Trazodone 75mg and CBD oil to sleep for about a month and a half now as I wasn't sleeping at all . I don't want to go on hormones because my mom got uterine cancer from them. I'm so glad I'm not alone in this nightmare. Would appreciate anyone sharing what has worked for you, if anything to relieve this debilitating anxiety. Thanks for all the support!
