Anxiety seems to have hit again

I've been doing okay the last few weeks but for the last few days my anxiety has been creeping back. Especially today, it feels like my throat is closing up and I can't get any air in to breath. My head feels heavy and I feel like I'm gonna pass out like I wanna run to the nearest hospital

I know your pain. Check out hyperventilation syndrome. It can make you dizzy and cause numbing. It can affect your legs and so many other things, too. It causes air hunger, making you feel faint.  You won't pass out because you are actually over breathing. It causes the sensation of your throat closing.  It's called globus. It is such a terrible cycle. Try laying down and putting a book on your stomach. When you breathe, raise the book. Make sure your chest does not move. Practice this often. It

takes awhile to get used to. It has helped me a lot. I rarely have symptons now. When

I do, I remind myself that it has never gotten any worse than any of the other times,

even though you think it could. It takes a strong person to handle these symptoms.

Know you are strong and believe in yourself. I no longer refer to it as panic or anxiety,

but as a surge of adrenaline. Adrenaline affects your vagus nerve, which can cause a majority of your symptons. Looking at it from this point of view may help take the fear away.

Thank you so much your words have really helped. I will try the breathing using a book out.

I think my vagus nerve was cut during my open heart surgery which could have something to do with this. I never had anxiety until the surgery

It is our experiences of life that wear us down.

I have never had an operation like yours.

But my Mother died of a Heart attck very suddenly,6 months later,my Husband died 4 days after being diagnosed with Multiple Cancers.

Then about 2 years later,I had a Stroke.

Still haven't much use of my right side.

My Nerves now are worse than they've ever been.

I was always the strong one, running a home,Children and looking after Parents.now ,I need help, and feel so lonely at times.

My Children are here, but can't tell them that the once strong Mother is a nervous wreck, who is too scared to make a Dental appointment.

Sarah...not sure of your age, but hormones may play a role, too. Also, if you google hiatal hernia and panic, there is information. Lots of it. Not saying it is your individual case, but maybe someone else reading this can relate. Have you had your thyroid checked? A large percentage of women have thyroid problems, as do some men. What helped me most, though, is the breathing. When I tense up, I tend to be a chest breather. I can tell right away because even my shoulders will raise as I breathe. This shallow breathing leads to hyperventilation. You get so used to breathing that way that it becomes the new normal. Children breathe correctly. As adults, stress builds up and we become chest breathers. Practice often so it becomes second nature. Also, read up on the adrenaline aspect. Try not to fight the symptoms as that makes them build. Accept them for what they are; a temporary nuisance. Believe in yourself; I do. Be well!  smile

    Sarah,

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this.  I'm glad the rescue remedy has taken the edge off.  Try to relax, try a few breathing exercises if you're able.  Sometimes having ice water, sipping it, helps me.  Feel better!

Hi, iv also been suffering with panic attacks and now health anxiety, I take the 500mg of rhodeola rosea and it really does help calm me and it helps balance the chemicals in the brain to ease anxiety. I still get the feeling like someone's got their hands around my throat when I'm in work or out and about but once I'm home it seems to ease. Iv sort of managed to control my panic attacks but now this health anxiety has started all of a sudden. i never join things like this usually but only people with anxiety will understand how it feels.
