Hi Mick...I had a half knee replacement to my right one...it took about 3 to 4 months for it to recover I hit physio hard. For the first 3 weeks I hardly slept as painful in bed...but now I walk lots better and only have a little pain until I go to move in bed ...both of my knees get stiff and the pain to straighten or bend in bed when in one position makes me want to scream but it's only in bed. Apart from that walking is great. Need my other one done but my weight is over recommendation now due to recovery and lack of gym so they cancelled it.

Recovery takes time but for sure you will feel much better.

I seemed to do pretty well with both about three yrs ago. Was a rough road but each day got better for me. I know all experiences are so different unfortunately. Wish everyone had more success with tkr. I do notice I have to be careful, maybe I just worry. I’ve read stories about the longevity of tkr and some aren’t as positive. I will be 55 this summer and just want these to last a long, long time. I wish you luck and just say day to day and pain meds. Sending positive thoughts.

Do you wish you had not had it done?

I am not sure how many months post op you are, but i would say ban yourself from wishing you did not have it done.

You can decide not to think in certain ways.

I am not saying don't feel sad....we all need to from time to time and the whole major surgery experience is a huge upheaval...its traumatic, and makes you feel all kinds of things...worry, anxiety, fear etc.

    But...

Don't let yourself go down the path of I wish I never had it done ...not at this stage.

It's something to pass a judgement about at one year at the earliest, and as things continue to improve after that, probably best to wait even longer before deciding how you weigh things up.

Yes, it is mega hard, but you have not given yourself time to reap the benefits at all if you are earlier than six months.

If you have complications, then this makes things much harder ...

But it is the case that a positive mind set does help recovery, so try and hold onto and focus on the positive and good things about life for you, and guard your mind from dwelling on the negatives.

    Sending good wishes.

Good idea to chat to people you know well and get all the support you can from those around you. Maybe you could do some nice things, outings?

Cream teas and garden centres kept me upbeat.

Also REST. Tiredness can make you feel low.

If you have a lot of pain and are more than a month post op, try reducing walking and give the knee more rest, ice, elevate. You may be pushing it a bit too hard?
