Any experience greatly appreciated!

I would love to know if anyone has any experience...good or not so good...using the powdered form of magnesium citrate to help with insomnia.

I can't post the product name but hopefully some ladies may know what I mean?

It does have some rave reviews for helping with insomnia as well as muscle pains etc

I do already take 400g of chelated magnesium daily, which doesn't really help my insomnia but is good for my tummy.

Have tried citrate in pill form but that went through me...could this popular powder form be just the same?

I know you have to start off with tiny quantities but does anyone know if there's a difference between pill or powdered form in its quality?

I really need to get more than 4 hours sleep per night!

Thanks jx

Hi, I have GERD so unable to tolerate casings on pills, as well as night sweats so recently started taking the dissovable carbonate version, along with zinc for my stomach. This is 200mg so a low dose but seems to be helping as I am sleeping a bit better, might just be wish full thinking, but haven't seen 12.30am for a couple of days, now get to 2.30am before waking but it is early days.  Have just succumbed today to my first HRT as 7 years flushes/night sweats just too much.

      Thank you for reply...

Can I ask how much of the powdered magnesium citrate you take?

As I mentioned, I do take 400mg of chelated magnesium, so when I take my new product, I suppose I shouldn't take the chelated at all!

Promise this is the last time talk about this but has anybody any idea what I should take to replace my 400mg chelated?

1/4 tsp plus 200mg? Or none?

      Bit confused !

      Thank you for any opinions...jx

Hi, the ones I take are in 200mg dissovable tablets, this say's it is 53% of recommended daily allowance, so the 400mg you are already taking gives you 100%. There are side effects to taking too much so not really sure why you need more, what does it say on the tub, it should give you the teaspoon to mg ratio and then maybe just take half citrate and half chelated. Chelated was in tablet form so I could not take it. Take care

Thank you, yes, I will refer to label when I receive product and go from there.

Citrate may go through me so will have to start slowly!

You are so right. The self diagnosing goes on.  What I try to do is take what my body can handle comfortably.  Not taking too much and then eating almonds, spinach, black beans and occasionally soy milk when I can. I use a magnesium spray so I am not ingesting as much - it absorbs better topically.   Not sure where you live so it may not be simple but I had my doctor run the blood test for magnesium deficiency (they just have to check off the correct box on the standard form) and I was very low.  I stopped worrying about the numbers and focus on how I feel and my blood work reports. Also, maybe taking the chelated magnesium a few times a week may be a good option so you're not worrying about taking in too much.  Good luck!!  Let me know if you get a good night's sleep!

      Dear Terri

Thanks for your reply, a few days ago...we've just sold our house and moved out yesterday, after 19.5 years...hence not getting back sooner!

I did buy the powdered magnesium and tried 1/2 tsp on first nt...no change...Tried 1 tsp next nt...nothing, tummy okay though but thought it wasn't fair to try a new remedy days prior to moving house...so now things have calmed down and we are settled at my mother's home, until our house is ready, thought I would start tonight with 1 tsp.

As with most supplements, it can take time for them to work and I think my mind is alert, detecting any changes, which is detrimental to it helping!

Re blood tests, I did ask my GP for thorough tests to insure I wasn't overdosing on vits etc...but wasn't available for me!  Postcode lottery!

      Yours jx
