Any good feedback from people on Cipralex ??

Since I joined this forum and the group on Cipralex all I seem to see are negatrive, negative, negative from this drug. I have never been on an anti-depressant in my whole life. But now at 59 struggling with terrible anxiety and panic attacks. It took me a long time since the Doc recommended Cipralex to make the decision to take it. But finally I did. I am on Day 8 only. And I am having some side effects, jitters, nervousness and racing heart here and there. But I would really love to hear some positives concerning this drug, cuz I am now having mixed feelings about my decision. I do want one thing and one thing only is to feel good again, and to feel myself again......

Ciprelex is the pure ie not generic form of esitalopram. I found this drug amazing once you get past the symptoms of feeling like a zombie. For me it took 6weeks approx. I was given it in a drop form at the start as i felt the above quite alot. Target i think was 15drops a day cant remember exactly. I started 2 drops then told by my doctor to mive up when ready. This drug realy did take my life back for me. I have been on them 3years as escitalopram now. I was on 20mg but over past 6months took it down 5mg a time. No problems until this week week when i stopped the 5mg i have been taking for the last months. Feeling low considering my mini 5.g dose again. 10mg is classed i believe as a low maintenance dose so im suprised but anything is better than gow bad i felt 3years ago. Xxx

Here is my early experience with ciplarex.. I was having horrible anxiety no panic attacks but my thoughts was all the way negative and I thought I won't ever be happy as I don't deserve it.. finally after few years I made the decision to take the medication a lot told me got bad feed back I didn't listen I just started with 5mg first few days had few symptoms then all went ok then 7.5mg for 5 days then 10mg for 2 weeks.. First few days with 10mg was not nice increased my depression completely then all vanished . till now I must say I'm able to kick the negative thoughts and I feel worthy and relaxed and thinking of going trip and doing activities to make my own self happy.. my huge ego in dealing with ppl reduces so much am now balanced one thing very important if you are smoker like me is not going to effect you in good way you must reduce smoking I did and the medication start to make me happy and relaxed and thinking about my own happiness.. zero symptoms so far am on 3rd week.. good luck

    Hi Damon.

I've been on Cipralex for about four months now and have found it to be very good in terms of helping with spiraling mood swings (either into depression or anxiety) or rude and abusive people who often attempt to trigger such reactions from their victims. You tend to stay calm but without losing your ability to concentrate. I'd say it makes things manageable or at least liveable. I'm very fortunate that I've got a good Doctor too, and that helps as she often suggests other activities that go a ways in complimenting the medication. So with my experience I'd recommend it if you're evaluating the possibility. The only thing to be aware of is that you might experience long periods of tiredness (I did and still occasionally do). Having a stimulant in the morning such as coffee or tea can help counteract that.

    Hope that helps!

Hi Damom, I started on the Med last fall when my niece took her life . My own teenage daughter was going through lots at this time and my anxiety was bad . I had no side affects except first 3 days was a bit thirsty. I'm on 20 mg but I skip a day now. Another person said that later you can spread out the dose if needed. My life is better now , I work hard on trying to be as healthy as possible too. Got to do both I feel. I workout and try to live a positive frame of mind each day I wake. Medication can only do so much we have to do the rest. Life is challenging but everyday we can make a choice. I hope this helps anyone who is coping in life and needs help.

I also began my Escitalopram (10mg in the morning) with taking a beta blocker too, although I found that I did not need the beta blocker for very long and my psychiatrist said it was ok not to take it. I also had to wean off Xanax as I had been taking that for a few months prescribed by a GP, which is a drug I would not recommend to anyone and did not help me at all! Xanax is highly addictive, should not be taken for more than 2 weeks continuously and is very short lasting, so it's relieving effect felt non-existent to me! Go to a psychiatrist and not a GP is a huge piece of advice I have.

I have been taking Escitalopram for just over a year now mainly for GAD, OCD, Social Anxiety, and depression and it literally saved my life! The turnaround from before taking it to after has just been unbelievable. I want to wean off it sometime soon but it definitely has helped me immensely! Don't be scared of the initial side effects, I know I was, but I was in such a state I was literally afraid of EVERYTHING. I remember lying on the sofa all day when I first began it as it can make you feel more anxious and depressed initially and then I would also get these super intense moments when I was feeling really wired and on edge, as if I had drunk about 5 cups of coffee and it had all hit me at once! But after the first 2 weeks, these passed. smile

My friend is on Cipralex, being one of her supporters I have seen some mild improvements, and while in discussions with her she seems positive about the drug.  However she's had some after effects from it. She is 32 and has battled with anxiety and depression from a very young age. She hopes this drug will help her get her life in order so she may return back to the work force. After a month her and I both have seen positives and negatives. The positives had out weighed the negatives. I hope this helps re-assure your decisions.

I've been on 20 mg for 10 months. It worked great for me in the beginning, but took a while to kick in. I felt great 6-8 weeks in. I felt really calm. Kinda had that "I don't care about anything" feeling to be honest, BUT I liked that feeling! That feeling can be good after suffering from uncomfortable anxiety and tension your whole life. Now 10 months in, it doesn't feel the same. I'm returning to how I felt before the meds. Worry, tension, apprehension, second guessing myself.

I definitely think it is worth trying, because it did work very well for me. If it was still working like it was I would stay on it for years (not sure if I'll ever be able to be without meds....). I don't regret starting it because for a while there it was working great.

I was really afraid of taking it in the beginning. Don't worry - you will be just fine smile the first few days are the hardest.

Good luck and I'm sure you will be feeling better soon, but may take a few weeks to kick in smile xx

    Hi,

I'm using cipralex 10 from past 3 months , I am feeling absolutely fine now but doctors suggest to continue the same as I'm not able to remember the things especially movies, names ,any lecture etc. please suggest whether it will help me in memory improvement otherwise it's no fun using this medication. Neither I'm depressed nor any sort or anxiety is there , doctors prescribed me just for insomnia.

Hi. I was on here before but don't think I posted.

I am now on day ONE of Cipralex. It took me a while to decide to take it (again). I had taken it back in Aug/Sept but stopped it. I have a hatred for pills but have decided to put my big girl pants on and take them to make me feel better. We take meds for heart issues, diabetes, blood pressure, etc. etc. Why not take meds for your brain! It took me a while to come to terms with it. I know it shouldn't be such an issue but for me it is/was. From reading comments here I know there are side effects as I had experienced some when I was on them earlier. I was only on them 21 days. I had started at 5mg for about 10 days then up to 10mg. I'm hoping my attitude this time helps with dealing with whatever side effects I have. Posting here helps me know that there are others out there who may be feeling the same. Reading the positive posts gives me a lot of hope! Hope everyone out there get feeling better soon!

      Hi,

I restarted them again 10 days ago too and got the side effects again.

I already took them from mid-2019 to mid-2020, it helped a lot.

Side effects for the first few weeks are hard for some people, for me it is the case. I feel an extreme brain fog all the day, feel really anxious during the morning.

21 days was short, I think it depends on people but normally side effects let place to positive effects after at least 3 or 4 weeks. You need to stay courageous and continue the treatment. 😉

Hi Nokaa. Thanks for the reassurance. Today is not a good day and only on day 2! I'm trying really hard to be positive and get through it. I also have insomnia. I didn't sleep last night so that could be playing part of how im feeling today. I really hope this goes by quickly.
