Any positive prolapse surgery stories out there?

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone happens to read this who has a positive story about long term recovery from prolapse surgery? There are a lot of scary stories about surgery but I would love to hear from any one who is happy with their surgery and if possible what type of prolapses/procedures they had. I'm planning to have surgery soon and just want to be 100% sure I choose the right procedure. Ive researched for ages and decided to spend the money and go private (gulp, lots of money!) but it has been like trying to make a decision in the dark- lots of horror stories, conflicting advice from specialists and I dont know of anyone who has had the surgery so I can ask them.

Thank you, any info appreciated!

Thank you everyone who answered, I think what a couple of you have said is right, for people who are happy with surgeries they move on so we dont hear much from them on forums. It's such  a difficult area to find information on, I'm sure if there were a male equivalent that caused problems with sex as well as other functioning there would be a lot more info out there. Prolapse is something that unfortunately seems taboo with lots of mis information!

    Thanks for your info everyone.

Your welcome Jeen (and for Jean too).

I still like to read what people are going through - it seems like yesterday.  But I find it hard not to respond to a question like yours.  I was happy with the support and advice I received 4 months ago and I think it's only fair to reciprocate.  You are right though - other than Matron (and Lynn for different reasons), I don't recognize anyone from my "beginning" journey.

Again good luck with any decision which YOU decide is right for you.

ps - the surgeon used titanium mesh for my surgery

I love all the positive comments on this post, just in general, it makes me feel better to see people have positive things to say, even if it's just that they don't believe surgery always fails. There are so many anti surgery people out there (I'm not referring to anyone on here) its lovely to see people just giving their opinion and discussing it as adults. Surgery is an option and although forums do seem full of unhappy cases I'm sure surgery must have a positive outcome a lot of the time or surely they wouldn't do it. Good luck everyone, no matter what course of action you choose smile

I did a pessary for a few years but recently had prolapse surgery.  So far so good.  This is a wonderful site with knowledge and experiences.

      Thanks.

My prolapse bladder was very large too!! It even prevented me from voiding. I'm 4 weeks post-op and I'm so glad I had the surgery .it became very uncomfortable, so I opted for surgery.

Definately have it done Carole. Mine was the same. I had mine repaired 10 years ago and even though recovery was a few months I certainly dont regret a thing x

Hi, Kar67:  I went to the very BEST OBGYN yesterday and she did a very good pelvic exam on me.  She told me that it wasn't my bladder, but rather my vaginal wall had prolapsed.  She is prescribing something for over active bladder, and told me if that didn't work she would like to try me on a pessary....It is very dangerous for me to have any kind of surgery because I have lost five inches of height due to degenerative discs, and other spine problems...All my organs are rubbing against each other.  I am pretty happy about the "no surgery" thing, at least for a while...It may come down to where I have to have surgery, but for now, I'm happy....Wish I could get my hiatal hernia fixed, but they won't do that, either...bummer.....HUGS.

Thank you Kar...The meds she gave me for overactive bladder is working really well...some of you might want to consider taking them..There are different names for them.  They have really helped with the pressure in my lower stomach area, and possibly helping my hiatal hernia...Have a wonderful weekend....HUGS.

My sister is in need of surgery for a prolapsed bladder. What was the medical term for your surgery? My sister was told test there are two different kinds. She doesn't know what kind to get. Im happy that yours went well

The medical term for repairing a prolapsed bladder is a repair of a cystocele. Your sister needs to get more information from her urogynaecologist because there are several procedures that can be performed. Any good urogynaecologist will have printed information. Most surgery is successful.

      Hi Diann,

I'm just wondering did you feel pressure and Bulge in your vagina even after the surgery for a little while?

I'm 6 weeks post surgery and still feeling pressure!

Hi Laura, I am at the same stage as you 6 weeks post op for cystocele surgery and I can also feel pressure and bulge, not all the time. Were you advised to do pelvic floor exercises?

    Hi Jeen44

I had a cystocele repair 10 years ago and still all holding up nicely (i am 48 now) I have heard that they sometimes they do not last as long so its important you have a good surgeon who has a lot of experience in prolapse repair. Recovery was about 3 months and my bladder felt irritated for about 6 weeks.

I now have a recetocele and hopefully after loosing some weight will be able to have it next year.  Remember for all the horror stories there will be a good story x
