Any positive prolapse surgery stories out there?

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone happens to read this who has a positive story about long term recovery from prolapse surgery? There are a lot of scary stories about surgery but I would love to hear from any one who is happy with their surgery and if possible what type of prolapses/procedures they had. I'm planning to have surgery soon and just want to be 100% sure I choose the right procedure. Ive researched for ages and decided to spend the money and go private (gulp, lots of money!) but it has been like trying to make a decision in the dark- lots of horror stories, conflicting advice from specialists and I dont know of anyone who has had the surgery so I can ask them.

Thank you, any info appreciated!

Hello!! I'm in the United States and 65 when I had my surgery, October will be my year that I had prolapse for bladder and uterus removed.

My life is 99% normal again, and I have no regrets having the surgery done. I took the whole 12 weeks and followed all the instructions of Doctor and that really helped my recovery. I still guard my recovery to an extent by not lifting heavy items, try not to strain with bowels and eat a healthy diet, which I slack sometimes, especially lately!! I have stated exercise basic classes, and that's good!! I do get a little ting down there sometimes, but I'll them go rest and put my feet up for awhile. I think it's really worth the surgery to have a quality of life. I was really scared going into this, reading stuff etc but if I weighted what I was going to with that prolapse and where I'm at after, im thankful!!

Hi everyone.  I'm replying to see how your surgery went.  I would also like to know how everyone went about finding the surgeon they were comfortable with.  I've seen three and they all offer different surgeries and I just don't know the right thing to do.  I'm 43 and have both rectocele and cystocele and I've been miserable for three years and stopped all physical activity so now I'm sad AND fluffy.  sad

I had an anterior and posterior vaginal lift with attachment to sacrospinus tendon plus the bladder repositioned in its normal place.  Everything went fine and yes I went private and paid for it myself.  Had a fantastic specialist who told me how he would do it and what everything involved.  Couldn't be happier.  Went back to work after 7 weeks.  Was told to be very careful not to lift much, bending properly, to do lots of walking, swimming much later, no jogging, no hopping at all.

Hi marina I'm so happy that all went well for you.May I ask how old you are.Did they use mesh and if so which mess was used.Im considering having anterior vaginal lift sacrospinus using Titanium my  surgeon hasn't mentioned repositioning the bladder. He would perform this using keyhole surgery.Ive just had a full hysterectomy and bladder repair which unfortunately hasn't lasted my prolapse has returned I'm a young 63 year old.My bladder was stitched up.Im really anxiouse due to all the bad press the mesh has had recently.I did swim six weeks after my operation so hope that didn't contribute to it not being a success.

What is considered to bend properly.

I am 64 and was walking two dogs before the op.  My doctor said do the right things and all will be well.  I have a pelvic floor specialist who I see once a month and she makes sure I don't have any issues also.  My doctor put me on estrogen cream but I differed but was getting a lot of issues so decided to try it out but I use the pessary.  This is to help the lining of the vagina and to help with the healing process.  He did tell me that because I still have stitches higher up they will take at least 6 months to dissolve.  I now have a gardener and a house cleaner to do all the jobs I cant reach or bend too.  This is a life changing op and I intend to follow the rules.  I am going to retire next year and don't want to do my job anymore.  I am a direct care worker.  I refuse to lift.  If you want an outstanding urogyneocologist I can refer Dr Derek Thompson.  He does this operation every day xx  Good Luck.

I live in Australia.  No mesh.  Vagina lifted and attached to sacrospinal tendon.  Specialist is happy so far with my progress.  He did say that it can happen again if I do things I am not supposed to do so have decided to do as little as I can at work and hopefully get away with it but am intending to retire next year.  After 10 weeks off and no stress am now back to work and stressed.  Still having issues like pain, swelling around the urethra.  Am hoping the estrogen pessary works.  I feel fantastic and am back to walking two dogs per day, separately for about 45 mins.  Work is good but by the time 3pm comes along am tired and very sore.  Having probs with sitting in car.  I work in and out of peoples homes and sitting and driving in the car for long periods is annoying for me. Doc said I stand up too long and need to rest but he told me to transition for a couple of weeks to ease in but am still tired.

I didn't have keyhole as the bladder was also put back into place.  Two days in hospital and then went home.  No mesh as there has been a lot of ladies in Australia that have had mesh and its failed or its got stuck.  I was also told no swimming for at least 6 months.  No bike riding ever.  I can walk, no jumping or hopping or running at all.  Have a pelvic floor specialist that I see each month to see if I can improve on the exercises she has me doing.  So far, no probs
