Anybody had vasectomy reversal fix erection issues/erectile dysfunction ???

Posted , 44 users are following.

Hi im a 30 year old male that had a vasectomy in january 2013 (10 months ago)

I've been having ED (erectile dysfunction) for the last 1-2 months. Sometimes I'm able to attain a weak erection, my penis is noticeably softer than it was before all of the issues I'm having. After orgasm my penis looses girth almost immediately. Furthermore I'm UN able to continue with intercourse even with a rest of 30 or so mins, I have always been able to go multiple rounds of intercourse with my wife without any issues previously. I have always been very sexually active without any issues what so ever. This issue us really causing me to feel low and my wife is concerned for me, which is impacting on her ability to be comfortable during intercourse. I'm considering a vasectomy reversal due to this. My doctor has arranged the usual blood tests, i.e to measure testosterone levels etc. I'm yet to receive the results. I can only maintain an erection through intense physical stimulation. I previously only needed to be visually stimulated, this is very frustrating for me. Furthermore im only able to maintain an erection during vaginal penetration whilst im on top of my wife with my wifes legs are pushed up and back, as this gives me more sensation in my penis.. i struggle to maintain an erection when my wife is on top or if we do it whilst i'm behind her.

Im totally aware that those within the medical field will be totally dismissive of the vasectomy procedure being the culprit for my ED issue. However im a believer that not all people fit into the same category within current research, as we are all unique and no two people are exactly the same. Not all people's bodies will always react in the same way to the same situation.

Is there a way back from this mess without the use of drugs ??

Last night I failed to have an erection, even through intence visual and physical stimulation. I had consumed alcohol and did feel tipsy, I have always found alcohol enhanced my erections and sexual desire. This was very shocking for me. Due to this I reluctantly took 50mg of a viagra type pill that was prescribed by my doctor. It took well over 1 hour for it to work, I was able to have the best erection I've had I months. I don't want to take drugs to combat this issue, I'm becoming very depressed due to this.

Has anybody out there had this issue resolved by having a vasectomy reversed??

I'm concidering having it reversed to hopefully fix my erection issues. Furthermore I feel as if my testicles have atrophied (shrunk in size) somewhat since the vasectomy. If there is scar tissue and atrophied testicles etc or general damage to my genital area could my body heal the the damaged tissues etc through having a reversal??

any information would be greatly appreciated, and many thanks in advance .liam

(Hope you understand my english but it´s the most identic case that i find on the internet)

    Hi, same problem:

    October 2014  Vasectomie

Nov,Dec,Jan sexual desire and erection as normal (really good)

February one girlfriend said to me my erection started to become soft.

May... the erection get worse and notice my decire went down so I visited the sexologist not a urologist and as all the people said that vasecomie does not affect erection and blaba and recommend me viagra and arginine to follow a treatment for 2 months...  I´m very healthy, practice dayli sport, eat almos vegan and good food, meditate, confident, just normal.  and don´t want to take pills, I did it, 25mg was enough for me but i dont want that for my life.

Im just 20!! yes 20, in Juli 21 and I did my vasectomie to get better sex and no problems and now I want to get a reversal just for that reason.

finally I take like 4 kinds of exams to test my health and they (Drs) said it whas ok...

    testosterone

    Prolactina

    Tiroides

    trigliceridos

Please, I love sex... tell me if someone did the reversal and things improove...

I need words for expierence, I don´t regret my vasectomy for others reasons but for this.

I dont care too much if the reversal is expensive if the sexual problem can be solve, doesnt care if I no longe can have bbys...

Thanks for your time and answers.

Pd: don´t feel sorry about me, just bring me some solutions or possibilities.

Given a vasectomy can eb very damaging to a a persons sex life I am very surprised at your age they proceeded with the operation.

A vasectomy can cause ED, it can cause pain on erection, it can cause pain on ejaculation and can lead to greatly reduced sensation (up to point where you can't feel pulsing of climax).

So to answer your question a reversal can offer slight benefit to "help" with the issues but a reversal further exposes the patient to post vasectomy pain syndrome

    Hi,

i see see that here have been many many replies to your original posting and I hope that when I finish reading through there is some good news at the end.

I I feel it important in case you are sat still waiting for answers, that I am suffering a similar thing. Not so much impotence though more a complete lack of interest in sex.

I love my wife and she still turns me on, butinterest in sex is just gone. I only hope that it will come back. I have never had any issue like this before, so let's see.

I definitely believe the the vasectomy had something to do with this.

I I think it left more of of a mental and emotional scar than I ever anticipated or have even really started to deal with.

    All the best.

    Hi syberk1d,

I had a vasectomy about 11 months ago and my experience matches yours almost exactly. I'm 36, fit and had an amazing sex life prior to my surgery. For about 2 months after the surgery, my erections were not quite as hard as they were before, but I chalked that up to post-surgery trauma down there. After 2 months, my erections slowly returned to normal. They were as hard before, but whereas I could have sex multiple times without stopping before, I had to wait sometimes 30 minutes before having sex a second time post-surgery. Annoying, but not a huge deal. About 10 months after surgery, I started experiencing trouble getting arroused and keeping an erection. Like you, visuals would previously easily get me hard. Now, many times even physical touch won't.

I'm opposed to using Viagara or similar drugs. I haven't gotten my testosterone checked but am trying to make an appointment to do that next week.

Do you have any updates? Did you go through with a reversal?

Thanks for your post. As stressed as this is making me, it's reassuring knowing others have gone through something similar.

Get a full set of bloods done including thyroid and testosterone. If your HCT is also low (range 40 to 50) and your testosterone in nowhere near 20, your in trouble.

If T comes in low you'll need an MRI to rule out pituitary issues. I've had all that and there is nowt wrong with my pituitary so must have been the snip that wrecked my T.

I can't as I had an epdidymectomy on the left so no plumbing left. I've got to go in for denervation next where the nerves are cut and stripped from the spermatic cord as I am in that much pain. 3 years now.

Going to get bloodwork done today and to share my concerns with my doc for the first time since surgery (~1 year ago). Thanks for the suggestions.

    syberk1d,

My wife found your post while researching on the internet to see if a vasectomy is linked to ED because I have IDENTICAL issues as you.  I want to tell you when I read your post I got chills and choked up. I am so relieved to see that someone else is having the same symptoms as me. (not that im glad you are suffering also)  I emplore you to respond with an update as I am severly affected by this, it contols my life and I am extemely depressed and even suicidal.  Thanks to you I am going to immediately make an apt with a GP or Urologist and get blood tests to check my Testosterone,Thyroid, and Nitric Oxide levles.  I felt like the post you wrote was me that wrote it,  it was so similar. I had a vasectomy in 2011 and around 3-6 months after I began to experience ED.  After it kept happening I went back to the Dr that performed the procedure. He insisited there was no link to the Vasectomy and my ED, which I think was a way of avoiding responsibility. He gave me a script for Lavitra, wich worked and I was on top of the world. But 4 years later and after many frustrating situations i not only need to stop relying on pills (wich no longer seem to be working) I HAVE to get my sex life back.  I'm sorry I'm not offering a solution, only seeking one and pray you may have had sucess by now. I am taking Lavitra/Viagra and don't want to depend on it, but would rather use it and have side effects than the alternative.  But Just recently even that hasn't worked and I'm sure its due to the Phycilogical effects this has had on me and my wife. The pills only work if you are turned on, and if your mind takes over and makes you think you might go limp, then you may.  Having a partner that is understanding and willing to go above and beyond is paramount to getting through this issue.  She is so sexually frustrated and it kills me to want to just take her on the kthcen table and satisfy her as I did before the Vasectomy  and when I try it just ends in tragedy and despair. This is the most difficult issue a man could ever face in my oppinion.  PLEASE PLEASE respond even if you have had not luck so I know and maybe we can continue to find answers. Thank you for starting this forum and I hope to hear from you  soon.

      Hi,

I have just read your post sand felt I must respond. It's sh*t you have felt alone, particularly suicidal as I strongly suspect there are many with your experience.

I struggle myself post op in particular to ejaculate and to 'get in the mood'. My wife is fantastic and very patient and understanding but as you say it is important to still be able to satisfy.

I have recently (last week) Made a shift in focus from the actual intercourse to oral, which my wife loves. I was able to more than satisfy and it has given me some of my confidence back in the bedroom aspect.

I do think there is a far greater psychological effect to the vasectomy than ever realised and strongly suspect this is why the procedure is so reliable in contraception.

Look forward to following your story further and if I can help you know where i am.

      C.

Get your Testosterone checked. I have the same issues but mine was due to a drop in T following the snip.

I can't see a reversal helping. I'm sure my issues are down to scar tissue and damaged blood supply. To top it I have horrific pain from both called PVPS. I have to have T injections every 2 weeks but due to pain meds I can't ejaculate which leads to more pain after getting frisky.

Do get your bloods checked ASAP. The docs are still denying the snip caused my issues and I have had my pituitary scanned and there is nothing wrong.

Thank you for the support and encouragement. I am waiting now for the dr to call me to refer a urologist to get my blood tested for testosterone, thyroid, nitric oxide. This is constantly on my mind and I need to get my life back. My wife is my best friend and everything in our marriage BUT THIS is perfect. I will keep u updated and hope to hear from anyone that can help in anyway. Thank you.

Your GP can get you tested. That's where I have mine done and it's usually less than 48 hours to get the results.

I'm still low after 3 weeks so have moved to injections every two. Low mood, lethargy, ED are as a result of low T. My heamocrit was also low. I felt exhausted and I do a lot of cardiovascular exercise on was struggling. Your T should be around 20 on average.

Have an appointment for this Thursday. Are the injections expensive? Is it covered by insurance? I don't feel low energy or lethargic but do feel down- doe to depression. Trying to stay positive. Can't let it get too exaggerated.

I am UK NHS so get mine via a prepay card. No prescriptions pre vasectomy to 4 prescriptions a month since. I'm also on two types of pain drugs.

I am having the same problem as well! I have been devastated and depressed for months now. I feared I would never find anything similar but this thread shows lots of other men are having the same problem. I actually had a vasectomy 15 years ago and never had any problems until I had a vasectomy reversal about 6 months ago. The surgery took a long time and there were complications but the doc said I should be fine. My symptoms match perfectly with many others posted here. I was checked and my testosterone was about 1/3 of the level it should be. He proscribed me testosterone cream but so far it has only worked sporadically. I just got off the phone with the doc and he said to double my dose and come in for another blood test in 2 weeks. My wife has been very patient and understanding but it has put a huge strain on our relationship. Does anyone know if this is a permanent condition or if it will ever correct itself?

A reversal can trigger PVP. If it that you are ultimately diagnosed with then the symptoms will quite probably remain howver whilst they may remain that isn't to say they won't be to a far lesser degree

I hope you didn't have a reversal to be firing live rounds again. The Testosterone replacement will make you infertile. It shuts down the natural production of T and Sperm.

Ops down there can easily damage T production.

I'm going to a specialist in a few weeks. I need an answer. I'm not sure if its permanent but if it continues I will just keep taking the viagra or levitra. I refuse to accept it as my lifestyle. I'm sorry this is happening to any of us. Keep posting so we can find a solution together.

I have a meeting with my Areas Clinical Commissioning Group and I will mention that there seems to be growing evidence that if a vasectomy isn't carried out properly then there is a real chance of affecting Testosterone causing ED There is an article by a DR Carruthers that seems to back this up.

Our other children were moving out and my wife and I wanted to have one more child. The Vasectomy reversal did not work, so I got a second one. That reversal did not work either. So I am about $8K in the hole now, and since a few months after the second reversal I have had ED. I have been to three different doctors now and a therapist. I do not think my problem is reversible. I was basically told to stay on testosterone and take viagra forever.

That's bad but any operations down there are a huge risk.

I'm still in pain and I know heavy doses of morphine don't stop the pain down stairs having been on it following a bad RTA and long hospital stay.

I'm trying a strong mix of magnesium, zinc, multivitamin, B12, D as this seems the only way to improve things. Given up on the idea of denervation following my long hospital stay as don't want any more surgery.

Thank you for mentioning this Chris04329

This side of the process is rarely mentioned or examined by medical practitioners. Patients are sadly left to be blind sided by the aftermath...

I have not been on here in a long time but I feel I should say that my ED has gone away. I was taking testosterone and sneaking viagra for a while, but then there were days when I did not need either. I used viagra less and less and when I went back to the doctor he told me that my testosterone levels were back to normal and I no longer needed it. Unfortunately about 3 months after I got back to normal my wife got brain cancer, and of course I have not been able to have intercourse much in the last 6 months.
