Anybody had vasectomy reversal fix erection issues/erectile dysfunction ???

Hi im a 30 year old male that had a vasectomy in january 2013 (10 months ago)

I've been having ED (erectile dysfunction) for the last 1-2 months. Sometimes I'm able to attain a weak erection, my penis is noticeably softer than it was before all of the issues I'm having. After orgasm my penis looses girth almost immediately. Furthermore I'm UN able to continue with intercourse even with a rest of 30 or so mins, I have always been able to go multiple rounds of intercourse with my wife without any issues previously. I have always been very sexually active without any issues what so ever. This issue us really causing me to feel low and my wife is concerned for me, which is impacting on her ability to be comfortable during intercourse. I'm considering a vasectomy reversal due to this. My doctor has arranged the usual blood tests, i.e to measure testosterone levels etc. I'm yet to receive the results. I can only maintain an erection through intense physical stimulation. I previously only needed to be visually stimulated, this is very frustrating for me. Furthermore im only able to maintain an erection during vaginal penetration whilst im on top of my wife with my wifes legs are pushed up and back, as this gives me more sensation in my penis.. i struggle to maintain an erection when my wife is on top or if we do it whilst i'm behind her.

Im totally aware that those within the medical field will be totally dismissive of the vasectomy procedure being the culprit for my ED issue. However im a believer that not all people fit into the same category within current research, as we are all unique and no two people are exactly the same. Not all people's bodies will always react in the same way to the same situation.

Is there a way back from this mess without the use of drugs ??

Last night I failed to have an erection, even through intence visual and physical stimulation. I had consumed alcohol and did feel tipsy, I have always found alcohol enhanced my erections and sexual desire. This was very shocking for me. Due to this I reluctantly took 50mg of a viagra type pill that was prescribed by my doctor. It took well over 1 hour for it to work, I was able to have the best erection I've had I months. I don't want to take drugs to combat this issue, I'm becoming very depressed due to this.

Has anybody out there had this issue resolved by having a vasectomy reversed??

I'm concidering having it reversed to hopefully fix my erection issues. Furthermore I feel as if my testicles have atrophied (shrunk in size) somewhat since the vasectomy. If there is scar tissue and atrophied testicles etc or general damage to my genital area could my body heal the the damaged tissues etc through having a reversal??

any information would be greatly appreciated, and many thanks in advance .liam

Hi everyone, so glad to have found this thread to know that I’m not the only one who has experienced issues since having my Vasectomy done.   I feel that I’m lucky that I don’t have the physical pain that many of you are having with this, so sorry to hear that many of you are.

I had my Vasectomy done at the age of 39 after having 2 children and not wanting anymore children we made the decision that I should have a Vasectomy.   My surgery seemed to have gone pretty smoothly.   I did have some issue with my left side being very tender and had major discoloration and swelling as compared to my right side.  My left side eventually seemed to be normal although I did have some discoloration for many years after the surgery!   I did notice when having sex after my surgery that it seemed like I had bit less feeling / sensitivity then I had before the surgery and that I didn’t have as firm of erections as I did prior to the surgery.  I had no erection issues, had a very healthy sex drive, and I could go multiple rounds of sex in a night before having the V surgery!   I did discuss this with my Urologist during my follow up visits and he said that everything looked good and that I was getting older and not in my 20’s anymore, basically down played the situation.  I thought that it would get back to normal as time went on but it eventually got worse at about 15 months after the surgery I was having difficulty maintaining an erection for an extended amount of time.   I discussed this again with my Urologist who gave me an Rx for both Cialis and Androgel as he said that my T levels were showing as being low in my blood tests.   I sure wish that I knew what my T level was at prior to my surgery!  Anyway I was on Androgel and taking Cialis before having sex which I wasn’t very fond of having to take a pill and the side effects that go along with it.   I did see another Urologist to get his opinion and to see if it was something related to the V surgery.   It turned out that the new Urologist had the same Dr. that I had do my V surgery do his V surgery.  He had nothing but good things to say about my V Dr. and just downplayed what was going on with my sex life and he basically blamed it on being a psychological issue and not a physical one.  He gave me an Rx for a book having to do with the mental mindset of sex.  UGhhh I was very frustrated at this point as I wanted him to give me an ultrasound or something to see what was causing my ED and Low T issues.   I discussed things with my regular Dr. who had me do a sleep test and kept me on the Androgel and I switched over to Levitra as it seemed to help my ED better.   The sleep test came back negative for any major sleep apnea or issues so my Dr. switched me over to injectable testosterone which I did every other week.  This has been my life for the past 12 years since my Vasectomy surgery.  My primary Dr, diagnosed me with a high red blood cell count almost 2 years ago which a blood specialist says is most likely caused from being on the testosterone for so long.   This condition makes your blood very thick which in turn makes it more difficult to achieve an erection without pills it also puts you at high risk for blood clots which cause strokes and heart attack.   So it’s a vicious circle with the T treatment it helps some but after awhile it starts to do bad things to your body!   To help with the high red blood cell count I donate blood as often as I’m able to to help keep the condition under control.  During this time my Dr. also sent me to have another sleep test and it was deemed that I do have bad sleep apnea now and I was put on a CPAP machine.  I also have been taking daily doses of a pill that contains Zinc, magnesium, and calcium to help fight off blood clots.  After being on the CPAP machine for over year along with my testosterone injections which I cut down to ½ the amount that I was taking my testosterone levels are showing now as being a bit on the high side (yeah).   I have now stopped injecting the testosterone all together to give my body a rest from it and to see what happens with my high red blood cell count.  I can’t help but wonder what if I never had the V surgery would I be having these same issues?  The timing of it all seems pretty coincidental and sounds very similar to what a lot of other people have said on this subject.   Why didn’t the Dr. tell me that this was a risk of having V surgery upfront before having the surgery?   Are Dr.s that do V surgery getting kickbacks from companies like Androgel and ED pharma companies for writing Rx for their drugs?   This has been very hard on both my wife and I as our sex life has suffered as result of all of this going on.

Knowing what I know now and what I’ve been thru I don’t think that I would have the V surgery given the choice now, I would have had my wife get her tubes tied.  The Dr.s don’t know everything about this surgery there is obviously something more that happens when these Vas Deferens are cut and blocked besides blocking out sperm.  These tubes maybe like spinal cords that are more complex and have nerve connections and are more than just tubes that sperm travel thru.   Maybe some people never notice anything after having this done but people like us on this thread sure have noticed issues and problems that have changed our lives in a major way!   I wish everyone the best in getting back to a normal way of life again and hope that there are Urologists / Dr.s out there that know of ways to correct the damage that has been done and get us back to having normal sex lives without pills and drugs.

Guys, I’ve been trying to find answers as to why immediately after my Vasectomy I was having ED issues. From doctors I’ve received the same answers as everyone, it’s in your head, your getting older, low T, there is no scientific evidence that a Vasectomy causes ED, or loss of labido.

I’m here to tell you it does, most men won’t notice, probably because they just didn’t have the same sex life, and drive as us on this discussion, or for whatever reason. I decided the only way that I sure fire know is to put things back the way they were.

I pulled the trigger, and had a reversal. It’s been 4 weeks since I had the procedure, and my erections have returned, sex life back to normal. Not only did erections improve, during the healing process I began having erections while asleep again...... guys I can’t emphasize enough, don’t waste your time trying g to figure out the obvious, I wish I had found someone to tell me this ahead of time. There is definitely something that happens when the Vas is severed, it’s just not normal, and as stated, the Vas is a complex part of the males reproductive system.

Dr. Rhoeder in New Braunfels was great, and receptive to my concerns. The whole process was very simple, and the best decision I ever made was to do the reversal.

Spread the word, anyone lookin into a Vasectomy please let them know the unknowns. A co worker at work mentioned it to me, that he was thinking about it, and I educated him right away.

Best of luck guys, don’t wait get it done. I would recommend you deal with a physician that only practices in this, because what I’ve found with doctors that do both, do not want to hear that the Vasectomy causes the issues, because it contradicts what they practice.

There hope gentlemen, best of luck guys!

      Hey Gene,

I have hear of people who have done the reversal and about a year or so later had their ED return. How have you felt? Any updates?

I'm afraid so... 😞 things just dont seem the same. heavy stimulation is needed and supplements to counter effects. some days better than others though and still better than it was.

trying shockwave therapy next to see if there is possibility for internal healing/recovery.

I am not the only one. I'm 43 years old, I got the vasectomy 8 years ago. Before the vasectomy I was very sexual, 4 months after the vasectomy everything changed. After eight years now I'm on testosterone and I take 20mg cialis every day just to have ok erections. The vasectomy destroyed my sex life, I can't believe Doctors don't talk about it, is all about money!!!. I regret having the vasectomy everyday of my life, it changed who I am

Same with me, theres not a day that goes by that I think how I wish I never had a vasectomy that greatly reduced my sexual capability and the number of times I function. And I had a reversal that did not bring my sexual functioning to the same as before the vasectomy.

I also notice alot of men on the internet, including you and I have reported a sexual difference after a vasectomy. That we can no longer bring our sexual functioning to the fullest extent as before the cut, we cannot achieve a second erection whereas before we were able, erections are weaker or painful, we reach ejaculation sooner, we are functioning less often, etc. These are all an indication that our sexual capabilities were reduced after the vasectomy.

Ask for the most advanced MRI that is available today (MRCP) to find out if anything went wrong during the vasectomy, including what exact tissue or nerves were cut, if a mistake or even malpractice occurred, etc. Doctors inform us that no difference to sexual functioning occurs after a vasectomy then why has it occurred for so many men in which doctors are suppose to enclose that very important information when men seek a vasectomy.

Men's sexual functioning is highly important and doesn't even have to involve intercourse as there is a variety of ways, and when a sexual difference of this kind occurs especially when its a major difference, doctors and hospitals should treat this extreme loss in life as extremely important instead of not caring.
