Anyone else feel extremely bad on first day?

Took my first dose of Sertraline (25mg) after about 4 hours I started to feel my Jaw clenching, my muscles were aching and I was getting extremely sweaty and jittery. It honestly felt like I was coming up on ecstasy except without the whole happiness influx. As soon who studies pharmacology at university I knew this wasn't right so I called emergency services and they said it sounds like a reaction to the drugs, even though it says side effects would occur 2/3 weeks into taking it, I've only been on it a few hours... Has anyone else had similar symptoms?

Hi Melv I had very similar symptoms when i first took Sertraline. Within 4 hours of taking 50mg my pupils were dilated and I felt very hot and cold and also bad nausea. The nausea lasted a good 3 days but the other side effects were gone by then. I think your side effects are quite standard if you read this forum. Sertraline I think is quite a powerful drug but also I think it takes at least 4 weeks to properly get to work. Hope you feel better soon. Kind regards

Thank you for the reassurance Maria, I've now just taken my second dose. I'm struggling to sleep on it which is an absolute pain. Hopefully it will subside soon.

    Good afternoon MelvZz,

Im currently on Day 20 at 50mg, but initially started my first week at 25mg. On the first day I also experienced the hot flushes/ sweating but found those would pass after 10-20mins, also had jittery, hands shaking feeling... but didn't really pay much attention to it as I knew it was just from the med. Unsure about my jaw, as I seem to clench it anyway when feeling anxious, so didn't really notice much difference there... but it will pass, try not to worry too much (those symptoms only lasted a couple of days with me)  also you may experience headaches... not painful, just dull and annoying, like you have a rubber band round your head... this was also a popular side effect with me, and many others from what Ive read.

But this place is great to gather information / read other people's posts with anything your concerned about. Were all in the same boat, hope you feel better soon. 🌹

      Hello MelvZz...

Just wondering how your getting on...??

      Hey Rose,

I feel absolutely awful if I'm honest with you, got about 3 hours sleep the last 3 days. Constantly feeling like I'm on a comedown. Hoping this goes away soon.

Sorry to hear your having a tough time of it, if you don't mind me asking What time do you take your dose??

Yeah it's life though, what can you do. I take mine at around midday. Any earlier I won't eat breakfast and any later I won't be able to sleep 😅

I agree, it does seem a struggle to get the balance right at times, I was going to suggest a morning dose to see if made any difference...  but seems like your pretty much around that time anyway... maybe an hour earlier could see improvement, but I guess its all trial and error with these meds 🌹

Yeah it's all trial and error, I'm just gonna stick it out until I feel better. What else have I got to lose.

    Hi Melv.

i was the same, but im very sensitive to medication and my side effects didn’t go for a few weeks. But I’m glad I stuck it out.

my bit of advice to you is try and stick with the same manufacturer.

If your sensitive to medicines you will prob notice the difference in them.

good luck, hope they settle down in your system soon

I’m experiencing the exact same, feel like I’m on drugs, sweats, palpitations, my pupils were huge lastnight (yesterday was my first day) rang my doctor today and she said the side effects are normal but to take half my tablet (which are 50mg) and see how I go.

Hi Melvsz know exactly what you're going through! I'm on day 2 (also 25 mg) for bad anxiety and all its done is made me feel more anxious, shaky and just weird. I completely understand what you mean about the ecstacy come up. But from what I've seen on the forum this is all very normal and we need to give it time. Hang in there!

I think it's normal my man. I'm on day 3 and I think the pharmacist messed up and gave me 50mg (even though my doctor said I'd have a starting dose for the first month, which I would think is the 25mg one). Day 1 my jaw was constantly clenching and I couldn't stop moving my hands and toes. Now, day 3, I feel even worse. I can't stop clenching my jaw still, my hands are shaky and I'm getting restless and anxious (not 'anxiety' anxious, just 'I feel like something is about to happen' anxious).

In hindsight, I actually preferred being depressed.

I’m the exact same! And I’m starting to think I’d rather be anxious and depressed!

Yeah I get you, this is kinda my last shot at getting better so I can't give up on this. I've just been upped to 50mg (Day 5) side effects have become more normal as in they don't take me by surprise anymore. Still restless sleeping and I've literally ate nothing for the past 5 days. Gonna see how this works out till Monday, but I feel like I'm too far into it to quit if you get my drift. It's gotta get bad before it gets good.

I am 3 weeks in and just starting to gain my appetite back.  In the meantime,  try drinking some of those ensure protein shakes and take a multivitamin.  That will help you to at least still get some of the nutrients you need.  Hang in there!
