Hi everyone
I was just wondering if anyone else is having difficulty keeping warm even in the hot weather ?
I mentioned this to my GP and shge said it was down to the meds.More so co codamol. I have been off co codamol for a week now and even on the warmest of days I can't keep warm and I am some times so cold I am shivvering and have to have a thremal blanket and a hot water bottle to bring it under control again.
I took my temperature with a digital thermometer and it reads
36.2 C and I feel like it is the middle of winter.even though thisafternoon it has been quite warm outside.
So I was just wondering anyone else like this ?

i take the odd cocodamel plus ibrufen and paracetamol(not all at once) and find that my operation leg is colder than the other one. I think it is probably the trauma that was done to the leg during the operation. I am 17weeks post op. I have noticed recently that I am feeling temperatures differently to those around me. Other hippies tell me that it takes up to a year to get back to normal! Happy days.

My mother is 4 months post right hip replacement surgery. She is turning 79 soon. During last few months, every day she shivers and her body temperature jumps to 37.4 C (max) in early evening and goes down before bedtime (her normal is 36.5C). Everyday. she feels cold constantly and wants to wear jumpers in such hot as we have now (33 C) here. Her ankles get swallen that go away by morning after rest.
I do not write from the UK but will be immencily grateful if you share with me if it is normal/common in h/r patients.
She doesn't take any medication at the moment except blood pressure normalizer.
Thank you in advance

How are you and welcome to this wonderful forum ...
I go through these chills too but found out that it might be a side effect of the medication I am taking .. you wrote that your mother is not taking any, except for her blood pressure ... so I am not sure what to tell you ... I think it is "normal" ..but please, if it is a concern to you, contact your doctor ... maybe they can do a blood test or some other tests ..esepcially if her ankles still swell , which is also "normal" - better safe than sorry ..
How is she doing otherwise? She is a lucky woman to have you close by .....
warm hug and keep in touch

Could be the blood thinners ... for me, I prefer being cold and put on a sweater than hot and nothing to take off anymore ....
stay cool -

Thank you so much for welcome words and nice wishes indeed. Control check up with her surgeon was 2 months after operation. Then her x-ray came very good as the healing process seemed went well; all blood tests came normal and her abdominal scan was normal (did just in case). In general she is a very healthy woman who was/is physically very active and even now she can't rest in bad after getting up at 6-7am and moving around non stop but age takes its toll, as I assume
(.
I recall that family doctor prescribed several meds for heart's proper functioning something to nourish heart muscles or so, I will check with her more on this. Also, she tries (always did) to avoid any med and I think it can be the psychological, med phobia or smth?
And, all the praise will go to my father who took v.good care of her after operation, he is 82
I plan to take her to anonther surgeon for consultation.
Thank you again and will stay here with you to hear others experiences and share my mother's.

If I may ask you what kind of medication are you takeing which may cause those chills?

It is normal and can take many months before it resolves, I just hope it sorts itself out before we get to winter :-)
Best wishes, Dot.

Thank you for your reply indeed.
I read somewhere in the net that it can be the body's reaction to get adjusted to the prosthesis?!
We have 38 C here and she wants to sit in the sun to warm up followed with the raised body temperature.
Wish you and others fast recovery
You are all such lovely people!

flu like symptoms and chills is what I remember being one of the many, many side effects -- catch 22 really with these pain meds - I stopped taking them and whoa ... very unhappy puppy and in a lot of pain -
big hug
