Anyone familiar with Dr. Dan Sperling who does FLA in Florida, and I think NJ and NY.

I'm interested in Focal Laser Ablation for my BPH. I've heard good things about Dr. K in Houston but very little about Dr. Sperling in Florida. I live much closer to Dr. Sperling's clinic so I'm asking if anyone is familiar with Dr. Dan Sperling of the Sperling Medical Group in Delray Beach Florida.

Good Afternoon Jerry
A lot of men have had the FLA procedure done by Dr. K. Not many have dealt with Dr. Sperling's.
You are going to have to do your own research to see who would do the best for you. There are many men on here that can give you the information that you are looking for. Call or e-mail Dr. K. He will answer your question.
You can do the same with Dr. Sperling's But I don't remember if anyone had the FLA done by him. There are patients on there information sheets to get some answers.
Good luck to you..................Ken

Jerry, Let me say that research is the absolute key to success in FLA as I believe that more than 90% of the ingredient for success is in who you select for the procedure. I have experience with all three of these men. I have paid (in most case) for this experience.
Someone earlier on this thread said that Sperling had not done many FLA procedures for BPH. YET,
Well, Dan Sperling told me two years ago that he had done over 1000 FLA procedures for cancer and over 100 procedures for BPH at that time. But he could not or would not give me ANY references of men to speak with about the procedure. I finally decided it was B.S. after trying to get and answers from him or his staff for many months. I even bought air line tickets to Florida to meet his staff and interview him to decide if I wanted to choose him to do the surgery on my prostate for BPH. It was at best, a very discouraging meeting and it lasted 45 minutes. He then told me I had to pay him $250 for that interview session and it needed to be cash or credit card. No insurance to claim or no checks. That left a strange feeling.
I also went and interviewed Walser and Karamanian separately. Likewise I was charged to have the consultation by Walser. Dr. Karamanian not only did not charge me for the time but he actually closed his office after his last appointment to spend more time with me and my wife The total time we spent with him was almost 3 hours. First it seems hard to believe this (and I was there) second, it was even more impressive that he would not charge me or take money from me to educate me on the disposition of my prostate on the screen in front of me (I had my MRI with me at each of these meeting) and he showed me how and why he would do the actual procedure and how it would not hit my sexual components in the procedure.
I am sure all of these men are capable. I would totally prefer Karamanian as I know each these men now and their personalities and where their real interest is in FLA. Again, selection of the Doctor is the most important thing and making the right decision is crucial in this situation.
But you get to make your own choice and in being diligent and persistent in seeking out information, you too will learn a lot about each of these men. I hope you spend that time to do so. squeaky wheel gets the grease. Do not be timid in asking any and all question in multiple session whether it is on the phone or in person. This is a big decision.
One thing about Dr. K that really helps him in my opinion is his Bio Medical Engineering experience as this procedure is as much or even more ART as it is science. And, I know that Doctor Busch in Tennessee who is an older Interventional Radiologist that is highly thought of in prostate cancer work thinks Dr. K is the MAN when it comes to FLA.
Good luck and happy hunting.

Hey Buddy
I was the one that said that Dr. Sperling has not done many. I was referring to that Dr K had done most of the men on this site. I talk with him by e-mail 2 times a month.
I know that if Jerry get a hold of him he will answer his question. He need to research the procedure and ask question. If he is going to call Dr. K or who every he want he needs to seat down and put the question on a piece of paper.
This is so he does not forget. Dealing with BPH is hard enough.
Have a good day...........Ken

Stan, have you or do you think it would be good to share all your data with Dr. K? I believe he is well over 30 now. He seems to be getting a lot of international clients.

Good morning Stan,
Things are going pretty good. Had a cystoscopy a few months back and my prostate looks good with no obstruction. I do have some bladder issues and I am on 4 mg of flomax. I have been taking it every other day. I mostly guit coffee and believe that has helped me a great deal. When I was drinking coffee one cup a day I urinated so much 4 to 5 times after just one cup. Think that irratated my bladder and it was causing me bladder pain. Right now im peeing pretty well and doc say prostate looks good. Actually the uro was in awe of fla everything was open and looked good. 2nd fla worked much better with no blockage, but do have retro. Kinda of a bummer, but not a big deal to me..

Glad things are going well for you. Did you have it done by Dr. K. He is a very good doctor. Most of the men that have had it done by Dr. K. do not have retro but I think it is how much of the tissue has to be ablated.
I did send a e-mail to him yesterday to find out if he is doing a much wider margin now. That is what one of the other men was saying. We will see
Stay well.......Ken

That I understand. It's no problem.
He cares and knows what he is doing. Sometimes he has to do what he has to to fix the problem
Great guy..........Ken

Great Message from you Jim 😃 . Generally from this forum I collected data of FLA patient s. Results : 1 failed , 4 mixed . Of course I'm not Doctor, or scientists, so the value of my investigation is not fully relevant. Conclusion : FLA is not fully effective in case of : 1. Prostatitis, 2. Small prostate under 30 ml.If somebody needs details pls PM me. Stan

Hi Ken,
just another one note.
FLA seems to be ( on the base of my investigation) the best option for patient with big median lobe, especially with Obstructive Median Lobe OML. Stan

Hey Stan
Yes Stan I'm aware of that but it is not covered by insurance yet for BPH. Maybe one day it will go through. Only time will tell.
Take care Ken
