Anyone get panicky with vertigo

Does anyone else completely panick when they get vertigo? every single time I freak out and wonder what's happening to me even though deep down I know. Maybe because it's such an odd sensation or that I don't have a proper diagnosis. It makes it 10 times worse, I wish I would stop doing this! Just had it again on top of a chest and sinus infection.

I'm so sorry to hear how this is affecting you.  No, I can't say I've panicked.  Everyone says the dizziness causes the nausea.  However my `dizziness is very minor oompared to the nausea.  Panic will only get worse if you don't either get meds from your doctor or be determined to stay in control.  It's possible if you go to a doctor and tell them about the panic that they will consider it "all in your mind".  They already think we don't know what's going on with our own bodies.  I'm a very confrontational person so I don't give them a leg to stand on.  They take what I say seriously or I won't use them...and I tell them that.  Have you been tested yet to see what's causing it?  Mine has been going for about 4 mos.  I've been to 6 doctors and everyone of them says, no, it's not what we thought it was.  Ok, then next comes unconventional cures I guess.  However, I wateched a video of a doctor.  He treats the Vestibular & the Metabolic.  I think that might be me.  We shall see.  I will be praying you can stop panicking and be able to get some answering.  Oh and you praying might help to.  I know it does me.

IC, hopefully you will find the answers too. The main cause of vertigo, I have read, is the displaced crystals in the ear canals. So if that's what it is, that's supposed to be easily fixed if you get someone who knows how to get them back into place with the Epley maneuvers, done in the doctor's office, by a series of head movements.

Herry, I saw some videos on youtube. Just be cautious and know that he is not an M.D.

Thankyou , im going to see ent on tues , but I know I'm going to have to be confrontational with him , I'm normally such a confident person , and out going , but gosh this has really changed me at the moment , I had a spell of it in 1998 , went on for 18 months , didnt get any help in the end , as all test were ok ,scans lumber puncture etc , think that's why I'm anxious now ,

Hi, thank you for your reply. I just panic once the dizziness and nausea starts. I think the feeling of it scares me and I worry something's really wrong but then once it eventually subsides I am ok again. They have ruled out bpv and are thinking its to do with the pressure changes in my ears. They basically said if it always comes on after pressure changes- colds, flying etc then it's to do with the pressure that effects the ears and balance but if it comes on randomly then they will keep looking into menieres. I had a CT scan when I was on holiday in America and they said if it reoccurs then I should have an MRI but the doctors don't seem to want to give me one, I think that's partly why I am uneasy about it. I hope you are managing ok with yours while they try and find a diagnosis, have they give you some meds at least?

Yes with the attack of vertigo I was Having panic attacks and 3 trips to ER. I have learned to lay down and put ice packs on my chest neck and face and breath slowly. And slowly the panic attack is gone and the vertigo nit as severe.

Well, here's something new. It used to be when I kept my eyes focused on something in the distance and walked towards it, if I moved my head, instead of things staying where they should, they moved slightly with my head and then snapped back (I guess those are called saccodic eye movements, instead of "normal" vision). It's associated with dizziness and problemswith the inner ear. Well NOW when I an looking at a light like a traffic light, and move my eyes away from it, I see a streak of light behind it. Has anyone ever experienced such a thing? I'm wondering if it's more to do with my eyes than my ears although I go to the eye doctor regularly and everything is fine. Going for a brain MRI tomorrow. Weird, weird thing this dizziness is! More off-balance than dizzy these days.

I to feel like its more to do with my eyes than ears , waiting to hear a MRI scan , feel so of balance all the time ,,

Thanks... we seem to have the same thing, so let me know how you're doing too... good luck with your MRI also. Sometime look up oscillopsia on you tube. The video simulation while walking down the hall is exactly what I see, except it is not that extreme. But enough to make me off-balance. 'Seeing my neurologist tomorrow. I am sure he will just tell me to continue to do the VRT, and I suppose that is good news, if no other problem. Sad when you wish for no answer instead of a bad answer. But I just wish it would go away already! eek
