Hi just curious to know people's views if they had treatment here or other experiences of being NHS patient in a private hospital.

Thanks.

Hi Sarah I had my THR in BMI private hospital. Difference between NHS and private you have own room with ensuite and TV and Wifi. I was able to access Wifi in the NHS hospital next door when I went in there a week after my op. Personally I was treated equally well in the NHS difference being shared room of 4 and no TV it was nice to have company. I was sent home day after my op which was very quick and I had complications and was not ready so felt they sent me home too soon. Good luck with yours and no need to worry it is all over very quickly.

      Hi Mary,

I'm on waiting list for North Wales - which NHS hospital did you attend and which consultant?

Did you have the option of Private care offered?

Hi I had op at Neath Port Talbot hospital South Wales by Mr D Robinson . Very lucky as they have only just started operating again there and only a few ops a week . Didn't have option of private care but was very lucky to have 3 nights in room of my own .  I was so glad to be finally having op that I didn't really care .  Good luck

Hi Sarah I had a brilliant experience. NHS treatment in Holly House Hospital Buckhurst Hill Essex. In fact I was so impressed when I found out I was in for a six month wait for my second hip I elected to go private at Holly house and had second op two weeks ago. I can truly say I was treated really well on both occasions and had benefit of private patient facilities, private en suite room, to boot. Also no worries about being bumped off the operating list. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hello Sarah, I had my right THR done at the private BMI Winterborne last July as a NHS patient. As I have never been into hospital for any operation before I cannot judge what the differences would be. I was totaly satified with the level of care I had pre-op, operation & stay and the post-op faclities I used. I was operated same day as arrival, Wed 1pm booked in - operation 5:30pm - back in my own room by 7pm wide awake (had epidural with sedation) - had a cup of tea and a ham sandwich. Home Sat midday, I was offered the hydrotherapy facility which I had to pay for but it was so good as the excercises in the warm water really help. You may want to check this out to see if the private hospital you are going to offers this as a seperate paid service. In my own room I had free tv / radio & telephone(but never used it as I had my mobile), free wi-fi and on-suite which is really nice. All the nursing staff, consultant, anithertist and ops room staff were so good. I know we should support the NHS but I could not have had any better care.

Any other questions regarding your hospital stay plaese ask.

    Best wishes

    Arthur

I am lucky to live about a mile away from NHS Hospital, which has a brilliant surgery suite. There are about 100 private rooms, with all facilities, including en suite. Having had 3 THRs there, and waiting for 4th in May, I feel so grateful. I don't know whether I could cope with being roomed with others. My own company is precious to me and I couldn't bear to be vulnerable and recovering in such a situation.

Hi Sarah. I was lucky enough to use the 'choose and book' system so used private hospital as NHS patient. My whole experience was brilliant. All staff were so supportive and I never felt I was treated any differently fom those who paid. Had my doctor not referred me there I feel my experience would have been so different. Afraid our local NHS hospital doesn't have a good reputation x

      Hi Linda

I opted for same as you for the same reason however did sadly find that the physio's spent much more of there time with the private patients plus my consultant knew that i was going home alone and discharged me 2 days post op when i told him i didn't feel very confident-same with private patient and she was able to stay for 5 days.

Let's face it everywhere is different.

Hi Sarah. That's not good is it. If they allow NHS patients in private hospitals they should be treated the same. Luckily I was. Sorry you were rushed out. Not good x
