Anyone have the Eyehance lens and can share their experience so far?

I have a Symfony lens in my right eye implanted in 2016 but I can't stand the side effects. My left eye is due up soon so I am planning to get a monofocal for distance. Saw the Eyehance is now available in North America and wondering if anyone can share their experience with it so far. I know it's a mix between a monofocal and multifocal so I want to see the side effects.

Thanks to anyone that can share from insight.

Cheers

Hello I had the Technis Eyehance IOL implanted on removal of a cataract in right eye last Thursday 3 days ago .My cataract was very dense and my vision in both my eyes very poor because of cataracts .I had a fantastic surgeon he is a teaching Professor and he set my IOL to +19 which basically put my eye back to the sight I had prior to developing cataracts as I am neither long nor short sighted .I had IV sedation and an eye nerve/ muscle block as my surgeon requires the eye being operated on to be completely immobile. The surgery only took 15 minutes and although I remember some of it I was in a twilight world so it's all a bit hazy .Because I had an eye block as the block wore off I had horrible double vision which was a bizarre experience two completely different images that slowly over 6 hours came together to make one image I was freaking out .BUT the result is amazing I had no blur,no pain and just a minimal scratchy feeling on and off .Once my vision stabilised I could see the individual leaves on trees hundreds of feet away, the contrast depth of vision and colours are surreal it's like Ultra ,Ultra high definition unbelievable. I have some flickering on the periphery that comes and goes but it's to be expected and everyone is different so no two people will get the same result but I am ecstatic with the vision I now have .I am writing this on my phone my surgeon said that if I was lucky I would have usable close vision too which I have .So I have amazing long and intermediate vision and usable near vision .I will need readers for reading tiny print like ingredient lists on packages and things like that but because the Eyehance is an extended depth of field IOL there is no noticable transition between distances which can be a big problem with multifocal lenses .I do see some starbursts and halos around lights but not anything like I had with the cataract. I know that its early days and that my vision may not remain quite as good as the lens settles into the eye but I am ecstatic with the result and the Eyehance lens .

just from reading forums like this on the intenet people seem to be more happy with Eyhance and have less problems then all the other lens like the EDOF and mulitfocal. The only thing some people dont like about Eyhance is the near or reading vision is not good withoutt glaases but its a monofocal so it never claimed to deliver reading vision. It has monofocal quality vision but delivers a little bit more nearer vision then the other monofocals

Keep in mind the Eyhance is not really a monofocal lens. It is an EDOF that is just a bit short of being called an EDOF. I think the cutoff to qualify as an EDOF is an extension of 0.5 D. The Eyhance is about 0.35 to 0.40 D, just short of being technically qualified as an EDOF. And also keep in mind that a spherical lens which is sold at a discount to an aspherical lens has about 0.25 D of extended focus. The aspherical lens brings all the light to a single point of focus and technically has 0.0 D of extended depth of field.

I have Eyhance set to intermediate vision in the left eye, target -1.25D. The right eye is natural with -7.5 SPH -0.75 CYL contact lens. I can see computer screen very well with the Eyhance eye, better than with the natural eye. For the first few days I was stunned with the quality of vision. However, this may be due to the developing presbyopia (I am 42) and imperfect correction for astigmatism (I had difficulties picking the best contact lenses, but I see 20/20 in them). Contrast is better in the Eyhance eye. I also like the colors more. The vision in the natural eye has a yellow tint, and white in the Eyhance eye is whiter.

    .

The distance of perfect vision in the Eyhance eye is about 50 cm. This is convenient for computer screen, cell phone screen, and anything you may hold in your hand or at a similar distance. I don’t need nearer vision, but I need -1.5D glasses to get the best vision for distance, such as to read traffic signs with both eyes when driving. Given that I have the other eye, I often prefer not wearing glasses at all when going out during the day. I feel that at night glasses make a more substantial difference.

    .

If I move my head a few centimeters off the perfect distance from the computer screen I immediately see the difference. That is, there is no range of distances where I get the best vision, it’s a point. However, the vision is still very good (and yet not the same as the best) over a range of distances.

    .

I think that -1.25D target is too large for the intermediate vision. I don’t know how much the target was missed. I need glasses -1.5D to see best at distance, but it’s common for glasses to be stronger than contacts, so perhaps my IOL is set to -1.25D after all. I feel I need to sit too close to the computer screen, especially when having multiple computer screens. If you need computer vision, I’d consider smaller targets, such as -1D or -0.75D. Say, if I put on glasses -1D instead of -1.5D, I still see the computer screen well although I need to sit further, maybe too far away, and I see the phone screen well except I need to extend my hand to read fine print.

    .

I don’t see any artifacts when looking at objects in focus. If I don’t wear glasses at night then surely I see halos because the left eye needs correction for distance. The halos have an interesting ring structure, but it’s subtle. That’s the only artifact I notice. Overall, I am totally happy with the Eyhance.

I agree - I successfully use -1.0D glasses for computer vision which is about 30" to my monitor screen. -1.0D works both for my right eye which has a monofocal IOL as well as my left eye which still has the natural lens.

My experience is that if your -1.5 D is accurate, that this amount of correction for the near eye is ideal. I find -1.25 was OK when I was simulating it with my natural eye, but not quite enough with an IOL. I am at about -1.25 D now with 0.00 in the distance eye, and essentially never have to wear glasses. I don't find any intermediate distance where vision is weak, and can see down to about 12". I very occassionally wear +1.25 D readers, but only for very fine print.

I am typing this on an ipad and about four weeks out from surgery on both eyes.....Eyhance Toric. I hate glasses and often just wear readers around my neck. I have no issues typing or reading this and never considered doing anything with the Eyehance that it was not originally designed to do. I was 20/20 a few weeks ago and have another optometrist appt. tomorrow. I did have an issue with slightly high eye pressure after surgery and have been taking drops for that. With my phone it is blurry unless I hold the phone at arms length. Depending on what I need to do on the phone I may or may not put the readers on. It is somewhat of a lifestyle change where you may or may not need readers but I am gladly free of wearing progressive specs. Of course everyone has different preferences.

Sounds prety good overall. Did you target distance / plano (or first minus) in both eyes or do a slight offset in one eye?

Unless the Eyhance was under corrected to leave you myopic, I would expect reading on an iPhone would be a challenge. Sounds about normal.

No we did not discuss any of that. I was pretty satisfied with what the lens was designed to do. One of the potential issues in targeting an offset is that you can not be sure how things will turn out. My left eye cataracts was bad and it is now slightly less sharp than the right eye. But each eye is 20/20. Many people do not have that kind of outcome.

Interestingly the worse your distance vision is in an eye the better it is seeing the near field. I do not know how you can factor all that in. Then again the left eye is catching up with the right with respect to distance acuity.

I do not need readers for my laptop or desktop and i wanted the best distance vision the lens could provide. My Note 10+ can be a challenge but like I said I can read at arms length. If you really do value uncorrected near vision then you should explore options. The only bugaboo I have is light......sensitivity is steadily decreasing but I always have a pair of sunglasses in my car and at home. Overhead lights at work were a bit of a problem but it is getting better.
