Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Posted , 526 users are following.

Hi there,

After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....

Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

M

    Hi Shane,

I am so Glad u got to sleep because sleep helps you feel better in itself, yes my appetite and sick feeling is still bad, but trying to eat complan to get protein etc, and managing to drink it, so hopefully that will help get my appetite back,

is it Monday you start your new job? if it is I wish u all the best and remember a day at a time, make sure u let me know how u go.

Day 18 today so hopefully feeling better very soon, however I am not as anxious as I have been but would like to be normal soon, got the doctor on Thursday as back to Scotland tomorrow. got the hospital on Monday too, so hopefully that will help, got a meeting at a support group on Wednesday morning, so here's hoping.

Hi Holly hope ur doing ok ???

    take care

I'm about to take my 4th tablet. I'm on 20mg a day, which I guess is the usual starting dose. I'm on it for depression. My GP told me that I would feel worse before I felt better with the Citalopram. I swear though I started feeling better the next day. I don't know if it was a placebo effect, or I was just relieved that I finally went to my GP for help after years of depression, or if it actually did just start working right away. I feel as if my head has been cleared of cloud that was in there (if that makes sense)

I've been taking it at night, usually around this time and going to bed a few hours later. I find I can usually get to sleep pretty fast but I wake up about 2 hours later feeling more tired than I have ever felt. This has continued since, my sleep pattern is all out whack. Last night went to bed at 3am woke up at 5.30, but didn't feel too bad. Went back to bed at 9.30am and wake up every couple of hours feeling more tired each time, I didn't get out of bed until 6.30pm. I really hope this doesn't last, but if it does, I'll learn to cope cos the benefit so far seems worth it. I did have nausea the day after my first pill, but that might me because I hadn't eaten properly for a couple of days. I have had diarrhea the last couple of days too.

I've been making a nightly vlog recording my experiences (likely not going to upload this anywhere, just for personal use).

Anyways, has anyone else felt better almost immediately?

    Hi mark

We'll done in going to the doctors and getting on the road to recovery . I did start to feel better within a few days as for anxiety but the dude effects for me were terrible I did not eat for days . I too took my pill late at night but before long the lack of sleep caught up and I now take in the morning and it's helping me get a better nights sleep.

I now have my appitite back big time I can't stop eating but considering I lost over 10 kg in a few weeks not a bad thing . Good luck and please keep in touch on this thread me, Anne and Holly have been keeping each other going for the last few weeks and it has helped loads.

    Take care shane

Hi Shane & Anne, I hope you're both well! I'm alright thanks, just been dealing with suddenly having a head full of memories that weren't there before, I'm just getting used to it.

Hi Mark, hope you're well today-I felt better straight away taking Citalopram, I din't think it was the placebo affect as I'd tried other tablets before and didn't feel any better, but after about four days I stopped feeling quite so good, I'm on 20mg atm so I'm thinking that perhaps I need a stronger dose. I've not quite gotten my appetite back yet, I'm glad to hear you've found yours, Shane smile

    Hi Shane,

Back home tonight, feeling a little better day 19 we are getting there, so glad u can eat again, I do think Cit is better for you in the morning now, how are you feeling anxiety wise, I am trying to relax and not watch any TV before going to bed, shouldn't be on here either but only just home so thought I would catch up with you all, as keeps me going.

Hi Holly, hope your ok, difficult dealing with buried memories, but they say deal with them then lock them all away and don't let them destroy your future as they are the past. Try not to let them hurt you, be strong. the future is what matters now.

Hi Mark, stick with it you will be fine, speak to your doc about increasing but he maybe wont increase for a few weeks till ur used to them first at the 20mg, I am on 10 mg. we are proof you can get there as we all could have stopped on day 2 lol the side effects were so bad. you could try taking them in the moring to give you better sleep at night that's worked for Shane and myself, as sleep is such an important part of recovery, as we are too stressed when we don't have enough sleep to send us into the deep sleep that deals with all our feelings and troubles, they say the best deep sleep can be achieved in the darkest room by blocking out as much light as you can, it works for 2 of my friends they now sleep brilliantly, however I need to be able to see light or I cant sleep (part of my anxiety after an MRI scan where I felt like I was in a coffin, and had a panic attack.

Hi Gillian, hope your reducing is going well, I agree with meditation and switch off techniques, I am just learning how to do this now, along with EFT.

Take care everyone and stay strong biggrin

Aw Shane rolleyes well count it as a trial run. I am much better today Day 20, had the neurologist at the hospital today and they want me to have an MRI but it was partly an MRI that started my Anxiety when I had my first panic attack as thought it was like been in a coffin, so I may be getting referred to the kids hospital as they have an open MRI scanner lol.

Didn't sleep well last night, as woke up every hour but did get back to sleep each time. maybe was a bit anxious about my hospital appointment.

Hope you had a good day after your short working day, I am eating a bit better also.

Let us know how u go at the doctors tomorrow Holly. xx

    Anne smile take care
