Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Hi there,

After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....

Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

M

    Hi Janey,

Are you taking Citalopram for Anxiety or Depression if you dont mind me asking?..

You should not be feeling 'High as a kite' after one tablet, I suggest you have a chat with your doctor about your side effects soon.. All tablets dont suit all people..

    Good luck

I agree with Globus. I've never felt high on it at all.

It just made me feel like the normal laid back person I used to be.

Before that I was a mess, didn't even want to get out of bed.

I have Hypothyroidism which have given me terrible tremors and until the Levothyoxine balance is found I can't don't stop shaking. I don't have depression (well not as yet), the doctor thought they would take off the tremors for me. I really do think I need to talk to the doctor again, I did say to him that I have a bad reaction to sleeping tablets and antidepressants but he tried to assure me this was just a mild anxiety med.

thanks for answering though because it's made me feel like maybe he was being entirely true and not really listening, especially when I react so badly

hi janey, hang in there! ive been on it for 3 wks now and i have to say its just starting to kick in . im taking 10mg for mild anxiety. yesterday was the first day i actually felt like my old self. Like you when i started i felt completely out of it . the first 3 nights i didnt sleep at all. My mind was racing, felt like my heart was pumping out of my chest.VERY SCARY. I seemed to have every side effect on the instruction sheet. upset tummy,no appetite(ive lost a stone ), dizzy double vision, felt drunk......it does pass the only thing im concerned about is ive got a bit of a problem that comes and goes is i tend to clench my teeth and slur my words a bit, but my doc and pharmacist assure me it will pass ,as the anxiety gets better. if your concerned speak to your dr but from my experience there not very good clued up about effects of drugs and tend to generalise so speak to a pharmacist they are much more knowledgable about drugs good luck xxxxx n

I'm a little late to responding to this forum, but do want to say that after a few weeks of awful symptoms, I felt very well on 10 mgs citalopram. HOWEVER, it is now almost a year later, and I have been suffering from headaches, minor chills, blurred vision, and fuzzy thinking. My question is: does it make sense that after months of feeling well, I have slowly developed all of the above uncomfortable symtpoms? They all go away with Excedrin Migraine, but I don't want to be taking a strong anti-pain pill my entire life, in order to counteract the citalopram side effects.

I have an app't with my family doctor in a few days, and we will discuss what to do.

Anyone else experience unpleasant side effects after a period of no side effects?

I wouldn't think after all this time that it is side effects from citalopram.

I suffer with fibromyalgia & have the symptoms you describe--as part of that condition. I also

have an underactive thyroid & take medication for that.

Check with your Doc, but I think you'll find your symptoms are caused by something else,

    maybe even migraine.

I used to suffer with those too--now I'm on the other side of the menopause they seem to have

    vanished (thank gawd).

I will check with my doctor, but so far she said (in an email to me) that the symptoms I describe can be indicative of the need to up the dosage of citalopram. I really don't want to do that, but I will consider anything she says. I am also on the other side of menopause, and have suffered from headaches on and off my entire life. Will let you know when I find out. Thanks for the answer.

    Hi,

I hope that whatever you decide to do, that it helps & sorts out your problem.

    I now take 40mg. I started at 10 & although it's not a cure--it has helped me.

Take care & post when you know more. Gillian

I've been upped to 40mg just over a week ago. How long did it take before you felt better?

I'm so nauseas and feel anxiety is worse today

Hi Everyone... its me M - I started this discussion almost exactly a year ago now.

I just thought I would say that the benefits of being on Citalopram far outweigh any of the short lived side effects I ha.

I am now coming off them as I feel soooo good and ready to cope with the world on my own. I am hoping that a slow withdrawal as suggested by the Doc will be uneventful.

So, I wish you all well in your journey to feeling better! It really has helped me get my life back on track in a subtle and easy way. Brilliant. I wish I had started taking them sooner.

    Good luck

I will never come off them. What you do, of course, is entirely up to you.

    Hi,

That is so good to hear. They've done me & my fibromyalgia a power of good.

Hope your good health continues. :-)

I have been on citalopram for 2.5 weeks at 20 mg for depression. Whilst

my sleep is improving at night, I feel very tired and forgetful and foggy

in the head to the point where I am no longer driving. I find this

situation upsetting and am wondering whether to persist or

    try something else.

    Dear west,

It took me a full three weeks of almost-hell until my body adjusted to Citalopram. Then one day I woke up and felt perfectly normal. The same with my son, who is also on the drug. It was very hard for those weeks; I was actually convinced I had a brain tumor because I'd never felt so bad in so many ways at once. And then, as I said, one day it was all gone. So I recommend you persist a few more days...but if you should decide to give it up, check with your doctor if you need to withdraw slowly.

    Best of luck!
