Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Hi there,

After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....

Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

M

Hi guys, you were really lucky Vagabondess with no side effects etc, that's great its the one for you smile although I always thought you couldn't take drugs like this while pregnant??

Gillian176 sounds like you're getting the 'brain zaps' I discovered were one of the withdrawal symptoms of coming off Cit (another con for me when deciding to stay on them or not). The member who started this discussion is M68 and has a great plan for tapering off the medication, just see comments above - also replacing with nutritionals as you taper off will def help, they should do the same sort of thing as Cit but in natural form. Also thinking 6mths is prob not long enough if going straight back to square one as the drug is supposed to regulate release of hormones (sorry breaking it down a lot) so that when you're off, it just does it normally. Hope this helps!

Me too Angela ...re menopause its confusing isn't it

I am getting variation of moods even tho am just doing 20-15-20-15 as I come off it

But I thought that might've happening a bit two weeks before I even started coming off Citalopram

So I did wonder ..was I getting used to it

Little silly things can boost my mood up..even tho it may just be getting my printer to print! The converse is true and I have to learn how to deal with those feelings

    I over think

There is avery good self help book which I have on kindle and have hi listed the helpful bits which I have found myself dipping back into

Anyone who wants to know the title can private message me

But taking this drug was the best thing I ever did. I don't regret trying it

So glad you're now feeling better Angela. I only had a slight headache for 2 weeks when I 1st started it, so I've been very lucky.

Gillian, I read that probiotics are good for depression etc but didn't know why, so reading that it helps produce natural seratonin is brill. Having fibromyalgia & seratonin levels being a problem with that condition--that knowledge is helpful.

Skyhigh--I used to be a grinder/biter & have broken teeth/crowns etc. Since getting rid of my stressful job & starting citalopram--I have stopped. Haven't cracked a tooth for 5 years.

Hope everyone's feeling well this week.

I have been on Citalpram for 5 years and have never had any side effects. I am from the USA and I am actually taking the generic brand. Not sure if you have generics in the UK or if a generic makes a difference in side effects.

My mother passed away at the time I was going through menopause and I was so depressed. This has been a God send for me.

If you have issues with anxiety, I believe you may need another medication. Perhaps Citalpram is not the right medication for you or your dosage is too high.

Sometimes you need to try a few medications to figure out what is right for you.

If you are having depression however, please get help and keep trying medications until you find one that works for you.

I hope this finds all who have posted here doing well and living your life to the fullest.

I've weaned from 40mg per day to 10mg per day in the last five months. I had hoped to wean off it over four months but, after finding my reductions in dosage a bit jarring around midway (I was feeling despairing and exhausted for about four or five days) I slowed down the weaning process and it will take another 3.5 months. It hasn't been bad at all, considering the horror stories I've read.

Hi, Ive just taken my first 10mg of Citalopram. feel very nervous as some of the side effects sound like they

    increase anxiety initially.

after reading through all your comments on here I feel encouraged to go for it, get through the first phase

and hopefully get to the point where Im able to be myself again, and my children can get their

mummy back and I will be able to cope better.

    Hi Marie,

I went on it in February at 20 mgs. Once I had settled- I did feel worse for the first two weeks but was warned about that by my GP- I felt so so much better and wish I had ignored the stigma of antidepressants or whatever you want to call it , and gone on it ages ago.

    My life came back

Am slowly reducing it now since July

Have had no problems doing that but you have to do the coming off very slowly

    Good luck

    Hi

It's good to find a forum with some positive things to say about cit. I have been on

20mg for almost one week and the side effects have been so bad I have hardly left

my bed. I have been prescribed them for anxiety and low mood, I had to give up work

as I could not cope with each day. The anxiety is worse and I can't get rid of tie headache

but I keep thinking one more week and I should wake up feeling better and be able to tackle

the day. I have been refured to a well-being clinic too I don't know if they help much

I just need to feel better as life is for living but mine does not feel like that, did anyone else

get a nasty taste in their mouths in the morning and also feel like they are goin to be sick but

ends up just dry reaching as I get it in the morning? I take my pill last thng at night before I

goto sleep but I wake up very early and can't sleep due to feeling sick and headaches.

Sorry to run on a bit shane

    Hi Shane

I nearly gave up as it made my low mood and anxiety worse so I have been there

On the third week of 20mg ithe light went on and I was fabulous and wish I had gone on them years ago...

I actually made notes of the side effects but I just checked and I trashed them ....because it was no longer important..I had succeeded!

No dry retching but did feel nauseous at times I think. Google the side effects. I had them all but it was worth it

I started in feb and started to come off them very slowly about two months ago ..so it worked

And if I go back to the beginning I will just go back on them

I think I didn't sleep too well at the beginning either but that's a bit if a hormonal thing. Then I slept not to bad

In fact am not sleeping as well now am reducing

Just started my5-10-10-5 regime last night

I also did meditation classes which helped and tried to switch my brain off!

I take mine last thing at night too, on the basis that they can make u drowsy ...so seemed good idea!

Give it another couple of weeks ....it will change . You will feel better
