Anyone NOT had any side effects on Citalopram?

Posted , 526 users are following.

Hi there,

After much deliberation, talking to just about anyone I could find and generally scouring the internet for information, I have decided to go with the Docs advice and take Citalopram, starting today. And then I found this site....

Has anyone NOT had any side effects on this? It is making me feel very worried about taking it. Am I just going to have to sit tight and presume the worst? Are there people who take it and dont feel nauseous and tired or even worse to begin with?

I would really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

M

Shane.. all the side effects are the same for the majority I stuck with it for about two months.. in between I felt it was getting better.. I went to my doctors and he said keep on them I didn't get the refill.. that was two months ago in the meantime im still anxious I take half of 1mg Ativan at nite to help me sleep but I know I need a antidepressant and losing my job seemed to make me feel worse so im going to see him ...I had to force my self to eat and changed from night time taking the Cit to mornings to see if that helped and it did but I kept getting the dry heaves no matter were I was sometimes id be driving and it would come on me .

give them at least a month and see how it works for u smile

    Hi all!

So many posts but I think someone says....did u wake up one morning and feel ok?

Yes...i did ..well maybe over 2-3 days the light brightened after 3 weeks but it definetly happened for me

Nikkie....well all my reducing regimes have been of my own making/decision as my gp gave me the impression that it would be so much quicker

    It is not....

After 4 weeks of 10 mg I have decided to cutback again to 5-10-10-5-10-10-5

I will see how I go and may even do a couple or three weeks on that but my next drop would be 5-10-5-10-5 etc..

It really does have to be slowly does it

There are no prizes for coming off it the quickest

We are all different and some people am just stop reduce very quickly

    I don't think that's for me...

Annie. Shane...it takes 2-3 weeks. U will feel worse at first. My GP did warn me about that .. I almost gave up...

Keep posting and watching the site .it helped me get through it all...

    Hi Anne

I am on 20mg but I think the side effects are just as bad on 10 mg . It's so hard I have a job interview this week but I can't see me getting it. I had to leave my last job as it got to much but now I'm stressing about money to pay the mortgage etc. every thing in my life at the moment seems such a big deal I think about the future and I feel sick and get cold shivers in my body . I have sat and started to word letters to people in my head as I felt I could not carry on. I just hope with cit I will start to feel positive and get these bad thoughts out of my head .

Keep us informed how you are doing I will do the same

    Stay strong shane

Hi Shane, all the worries don't help the anxiety do they? fingers crossed for your interview, just do the belly breathing techniques before it, do u know of these? deep breath in right down to ur belly for 5 seconds and slowly breath out for 10 seconds, really works to calm you. Life can only get better remember that ! its all such a big deal now but with time it will all come together. You can carry on think positively, Try to be in company as much as you can, its when ur alone u start thinking too much. get a hobbie, go running , swimming or walking, my friend got thru it by getting a puppy and walking him. whatever it takes to keep u busy do it. Anyway good luck with the interview and remember deep breathing,

Stay Strong and we will beat this.

I am the same Shane, exactly as you feel word for word, my Doc gave me diazapam too but I haven't taken it as it makes you sleepy, but it does relax you, and its only 2mg, I have taken this before going to the dentists to calm me and it was fine, so do take it, it will get you through this. we have come this far lets see it through.

    Hi Anne

I felt bad this morning up until lunch then not to bad for the rest of the day . At the moment I have a slight headache and horrible taste in my mouth. I did take one of the diazepam last night as I felt panicky and it chilled me right down it was only when I took my cit later I started to feel bad again .

Anyway how have you been last night and today ?

    Take care Shane

    Hi everyone,

I'm on Citalopram 20mg (fifth day in) and I've yet to have any side-effects other than a loss of appetite and feeling sick when I eat a full meal. The first day I took them I felt sick and groggy and confused for about 4 hours but since that cleared up I've been fine. If I get up later than normal and miss my usual tablet time I've woken up feeling out of sorts, but so far I've not had any negative affects other than decreased appetite. My GP did say that it'd likely make me feel ill, and I read on the leaflet that more than 1 in 10 people get negative affects. I was advised to take them in the morning because it's better than taking them at night, I'm not sure why. I hope everyone with negative affects starts feeling better soon! sad

Anxious last night, and not bad today, I haven't experienced the taste in my mouth tho, which is good, day 7 for me, so hopefully it will get easier, my headache is not bad today, was awful yesterday. Pain in stomach was just awful but a bit better today, I have been practicing deep breathing and it seems to help a bit,

I am glad u took the diazapam just to calm you and it will help u sleep, I take my cit in the morning, but I am due to drive to Ireland next week so am a bit anxious over that, was hoping the cit would have kicked in bythen so fingers crossed.

Look up EFT online I have been getting it and I feel better for it, but u can do it urself from utube, it looks silly but I feel it is working for me.

Take care and keep in touch

    Anne
