Anyone taking 15mg Mirtazapine with 10mg Escitilopram?
Posted , 5 users are following.
I was initially prescribed 30mg Mirtazapine about 7 weeks ago, was fine for a while, then I had a major family upset which triggered my anxiety, so GP up'd dose to 45mg, this was too much for me and my anxiety worse.
My mental health nurse specialist, got me tapering off 30mg to 15mg Mirtazapine ( 30mg for 3 days then 15mg for 4 days introducing 10mg Escitilopram when down to 15mgs )
I stopped the Mirtazapine 2 days ago and feel horrendous, major panic attacks, shaking, hyperventilating, nausea etc.,
Can anyone give me any advice please, I haven't slept for more than 3-4 hours in 36 hours!!!

Hi Karen and Nikki I know that you are suffering at the moment but it does settle.l have been in your position more times than l would care to admit but it does pass. The problem is there is nothing a doctor can do to help you and trust me if you were with a psychiatrist they would send you off and not see you for 3 months. What l did was l kept a journal because when you are going through it you can't see the wood for the trees.Do not be too hard on yourselves and don't expect too much too soon.Eat small amounts and often and soak in a bath at night with some Lavender essential oils.Put a few drops on your pillow at night.Do not over use diazepam even at low doses trust me addiction to them makes going on and off antidepressants feel like a picnic. Also the antisickness medication is called stemitel.Hang in there one day at a time.

Hi Marlene,
Thank you for your words of support and hope.
It is so helpful to hear from someone who has been there and come out the other side.
Hugs 🤗

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and experience, Marleen!
I've got some lavender oil. Will make use of it. I've found lying down with a heated pad on my front (that I'd normally use for back pain) quite comforting this evening.
I do make notes in my diary but journaling is probably better so I will start that! Thank you x

Hi Ann I am on venlafaxine at the minute however I stay at a low dose.l am tapering off Diazepam at the minute so finding some days a bit tough.l am doing a lot of meditation and mindfulness at this time as l believe that is the only way to get a handle on ànxiety.l am certainly not against antidepressants however if they are all you depend on to feel better then when they stop working you are in trouble. There is no magic pill however antidepressants do work well for some people but always practice relaxation techniques even when you are feeling better

Psych has tried many combinations, i have diffi ulty with them all, thats why i want to be off but i dont think i can. I will end up in hospital if he cant find something to help. The diazepam i am sure doesnt help. At least tou have found venlafaxine which works for you. Sertraline made me so over anxious even the diazepam didnt work. Duloxetine numbed me down terribly. Prozac i cant have due to taking warfarin. I had a trial run with lofepramine for five months. No better. Quetiapine no good. Risperidone made me feel mad. Dr tells me i have depression and anxiety, nothing else, but it is proving treatment resistant. I cant do anything about it and feel useless.

Oh Ann, I feel your pain 😢
It's so difficult to find one that works isn't it and find one that you can tolerate too!!
It's very difficult when you are on a medication that limits your options too!!
I'm wondering how going into hospital will help if they will only be able to offer the same medications?
I've been through a fair.few over the years too , Sertraline was the worst for me, could not tolerate it at all.
Citalopram worked for a few years then it got changed , think I've.been on 5 different ones since, not even sure this Escitilopram is working! I think it's the Quetiapine that's having more effect!
I do hope you get something sorted soon.
Sending massive hugs 🤗

Yes, im like you, so many trials, so many fails. Maybe i should just put this mirtaz back up and try a little more. It wasnt working thats why im coming downwards. Sertraline was bad for me too, couldnt stand the side effects, yet others love it.
i am wondering if i ought to ask for escitalopram, have had quetiapine but its an antipsychotic so wasnt keen to stay on it.
do you think escitalopram would help anxiety and depression? I know you are a bit unsure but do you feel a bit better

Hi Ann,
My mental health nurse specialist swears by Escitilopram, he says it is the gentler of the SSRIS, with less side effects apparently!!
It's very difficult to tell but I do think it is helping but has taken a few weeks, he did say it would be reviewed after 4 weeks..
When I wasn't sure about it two weeks ago when I saw him his words were " in the long term it is the better of the ADs"
I'm only on 10mg.
But obviously we all react differently to medication.
My daughter takes Sertraline with no problems.
To be honest the one I thought I felt best on was Trazadone, but my GP said it wasn't helping my anxiety as he wanted me to reduce Diazepam too. Well reducing Diazepam certainly hasn't happened yet on Escitilopram either!
I still need between 6-12 msg a day.

Hi Marleen,
I've been on it about 12 years after having breast cancer.
I was initially on 10mg Tamazepam and I used to be given a Lorazepam when I went for chemotherapy.
After a year my GP took me off Tamazepam ( which I had no problem coming off ) and onto Diazepam, I've had 5mg and 2mg ones, but now just have 2mg ones.

Thank you Marleen.
I did go a few days hardly taking any and think I got withdrawal symptoms.
I'm not dropping any lower no matter how much my GP says!!

Good once you stabilise on your medication taper off very slowly.l have found long term use of only 7 mgs has definitely increased my anxiety and depression.Just stay at a stable dose now and don't add to your symptoms.

Hi Marleen
I've been on it daily since early July. Before that, I've used it sporadically for about a year, like one a week. I've had to use it since I went up to 30mg Mirtazipine at the start of July and my anxiety went off the scale! The odd day I've missed taking them. Some days I've taken 4 or 5, others just 1.
