The number of meds you are on is extremely frightening. If you are a believer that the body will heal itself from anything given the right food and life style then there is a book I have read that solved all my BP problems. Suggest you think about reading "What your doctor may not tell you about hypertension" by Mark Houston MD - around $18 on Amazon etc. Ihave been on BP pills for 50 years which really is daft. Last year I gave myself a good talking toooooooo and decided to do something about as I concluded that all these drugs were working against each other. I lost 20kg and that made a massive difference. BP control is a whole bunch of things. Dont overllok the brain. I found social contact daily if possible does wonders - just talking with others. Think about volunteering to help others - better than any tonic in a bottle! Laughting is fantastic - watch English comedy before you go to sleep and laugh out loud! I had a German food sensitivity blood test 10 years ago and I was a vegetarian at the time. Well this changed my life around as my body rejected most grains and some nuts, Interestingly I followed it and blood pressure came down. Cost about $300 though!

I agree taking all this chemical substance is frightening.  But to stop taking them is more frightening.  6 of the tablets are to control vertigo - 1 tablet is a potassium and the rest - blood thinners, heart and blood pressure.  My parents, my brother had high blood pressure.  My weight is good, I do not smoke,or drink,  I exercise moderately  I do not eat processed foods - avoid fried foods.  So all in all there are not too many lifestyle changes too be made. Although I`m sure I could make more imrpovements as no one follows the perfect diet..  I will indeed take a look on the net re Dr. Mark Houston MD.  Thank you for that.

I havve a hunch yhe BP med coupled with a prostate med caused my vertigo and gave me constant tinnitus in the left ear. I based this on what has happened to others. It took over 6 months to get around this. Initially I went down to 5 % hearing in both ears (a nightmare driving as you dont know when to change gears!). The body is a pretty clever device and it took it 3 months to compensate for the left ear and right eventually came back to life and tge vertigo went completely away. When offered another drug as the doctor ". Would you take this"! Watch his/her face whhen you say it! Gosh I'm naughty!

Vertigo can be caused by various conditions.  In my case it is due to my hearing or lack of hearing.  I worked in a noisey environment for years which took its toll on my hearing and have had tinnitus now for about 14 years followed by vertigo. I have qualified for a cochlear implant and have been told that maybe my tinnitus will not be as prevalent.  I`m glad your hearing came back and that your vertigo disappeared. that is a blessing. I can see your predicament with the gear shift when you had your hearing problem......thankfully I have an automatic!!  .

    Dear marion,

None of us are medically trained, the very best we can do is tell you how things affect us. We have no idea how prescribed drugs you have taken for 30 years will react with something you buy in a health food shop.

If you were starting from scratch you would have the option of either taking natural things described as health foods or prescribed medicines you get from your GP. It is not a good idea to mix them as I found out when I tried taking licorice with my prescribed drug metformin.

As I said to you before you are doing the right thing.

I believe in the old maxim " fools dive in where angels fear to tread " .

Please be careful marion, I would hate you to have a bad reaction to something you thought you might give a try.

Might be difficult to explain what you do to the GP as well, knowing that if any of us gets seriously ill we expect an ambulance to take us to hospital.

    Please stay safe.

      Dear Robert,

Thank you for your advice and concern for me to be cautious when on prescription drugs. I used to take a lot of vitamins but as more prescription drugs were added to the list the last being the Warfarin drug that is when my doctor said I had to stop taking the vitamins as they would interefere with my medication. So  when I was contemplating taking apple cider vinegar I was a little uneasy about it so I am glad that I spoke to the pharmacist who, as mentioned, advised against it.

I don`t believe in rocking the boat and I`m sure my doctor wouldn`t either.

      Stay well,

      Many thanks,

      Marion

    Dear marion,

Just thought I would share this information with you. My father do not believe in prescribed medicine, his exact words on the subject were " bl..dy old tablets " . He really was a bit of a lad and it was very difficult to get him to take any medicine at all when my wife and I went down to Devon to look after him. He decided that any joint pain could be sorted out by taking high strength cod liver oil which he took for 3 years. Suddenly he complained of pain in his left leg. His GP took a look at him, sent him to a specialist who confirmed that my father had prostate cancer and he started to be treated for this condition. I mentioned all this to my own GP who said " I know you won't want to here this but the reason he has pain in his leg is that the cancer has grown into his bone. " Obviously I was a bit shocked by this and he died 6 months later.

On my second visit to the hospital this year I was chatting to the nurses in the ward about 2.00 am because I could not sleep.

I mentioned what had happened to my dad and that the only thing he took was high strength cod liver oil. They both turned and stared at me, one of them then replied, there is research being done right now because it is believed there is a link between cod liver oil and prostate cancer.

I am not medically trained so I don't know, they would not have mentioned it if I had not brought the subject up.

I just wonder how much they know about IBS that is never revealed to us. If you speak to retired medical staff, they won't tell you a single thing. Perhaps they have to sign something before they leave the medical profession. It's worth a thought.

Dear Marion, Sorry about your father. What an eye opener for you when the nurses conveyed to you the link between cod liver oil and prostrate cancer.  No, they certainly wouldn`t have revealed that if you hadn`t brought it up.   I`m sure, also they never would reveal anything in connection with IBS.  Where health is concerned everything should be an open book..

I am fortunately, so far, a cancer survivor and I did the chemo and radiation.  I did not relish such chemicals invading my body but if there was a chance that I could be cured then that was the way to go.  Now a friend of mine did not want to go that route and chose alternative medicine and unfortunately did not survive. Of course there could be other cases where alternative medicine has been used and people have survived but alternative medicine is not governed or regulated by any authority like prescription drugs are.

      Merry Christmas.

      Marion.

A change in taste can be due to a number of things - see your GP so that it is recorded.  If it doesn't go within 3 weeks, go back to your GP till they investigate further.  Reflux is underdiagnosed.  Avoid heavy foods at night time, as acid usually builds up overnight.
