Appreciate Advice with Withdrawal

Posted , 6 users are following.

I had to look up what day it is today. Not feeling well. I’m drinking lots of water and  try to eat. Got magnesium supplement but hear at 400mg a day may be too much and can make one very ill if too much of it in the body, so I just take it every other day.  Memory issues .. think I’m around day 13 off this med.

Work tomorrow, and good thing, I’m tired of the couch!

What has worked for you? Appreciate your advice, thank you..

Saw a helpful article, but not sure we can post links at this site.  It’s on mental health daily dot com. Gabapentin withdrawals, symptoms. I liked it because not only did it list what we’re going through, but that we will get through.

Day 15 off the med for me I think.

I was prescribed it by neurologist for neuropathy in my toes, 100mg 1st week, 200 next then 300. I felt bad on it and tapered myself off after 2 months, late December, Doc said fine to just stop.

At ER last week with complications of bad cold. Told Doc about gaba, could it be? Nah.. Back to ER 2 days later feeling worse. ER Doc said gaba withdrawal.  Had a panick attack while there. Gave me 5mg diazepam and a prescription - take when you feel anxious. I took one the following evening but no more, I won’t replace one bad drug with another.

2 weeks off of gabapentin now I think, memory not the best right now. Not a good day today, withdrawal symptoms super bad. Nausea, vomiting after eating, dizzy, balance issues, diarrhea, worse than when I was on the drug. Went to work today and was tough.

    Hanging in 😥

I have been on gabapentin for I know at least 15 years that was 600 mg. Then they up me 600 more for I want to call it neuropathy the doctor says it is not neuropathy I am not a diabetic but my feet would burn so bad I could not stand it. So when I decided to go off Gabapentin after them telling me it was not addicting I went off of 1200 mg and one shot. I was very sick and I would be good and then I would go down then I would be good and then I would go down and I have many of the same symptoms you have at the end of your note and then some. So I decided to go back to 900 mg I figured after 6 weeks I had to have at least 300 out of my system. I was wrong so I felt just an order to stay alive I had to go back up to 1200 which I did. I lost weight when I went off the Gabapentin thank God I have not gained any back but I have not gained my appetite back either. The dizziness the vomiting and diarrhea the shaking the vertigo and much more. It's like I have not got my appetite back but I don't really get hungry but I do eat small portions. And it did cause me to gain weight. So I'm kind of afraid to tell my doctor that I want to wean myself off of Neurontin because I cannot go through that again there has got to be another way totally has to be another way I am too old to go through that again. Now I was put on the 600 originally to help with my depression. But this is genetic my depression my anxiety my panic disorder this is all genetic and if I take my medicine even when I'm in an serious anxiety attack because I'm going off the Gabapentin it doesn't help I have been on medication since 1990. So it won't help me. But I'm excited for you and I'll keep you in my prayers and I want you to do this because I don't want anyone to go through what I went through those 6 weeks. Blessing and you're in my prayers

    Debbie,

It’s Tammy you are in my prayers. I managed to come off 3600mg cold turkey no side effects BUT pain returned severely and just doses again tonight. I don’t feel guilty bec the pain is so severe still there takes time to build back up. Anyway what I did was take a Menopausal supplement, avoid vit B makes wd worse, take cranberry supps, mag 500mg every night, vit D 4000 mg and Zofran in hand. I did this sev weeks before stopping and it worked until my Trigeminal Neuralgia returned. Try to stay off benzos they are even harder to get off of. Now also make sure you hydrate and force yourself to eat carbs like oatmeal and cream of wheat and protein is very important. I’m a wimp and that method worked so you may want to go back on as low as a dose as possible to get out of Wd and prepare as I did and see if it works. I’m not a dr so I advise you to ask your doc if that may be a plan. It really worked. No restless legs either but did loose some sleep. I know the physical horror and a runny nose is first sign of wd for me and they say gaba prevents you against colds but they don’t know why. Disclaimer again consult your doc if this is an ok method to try. Also Clonidine works wonders for sleep when you are off the gaba. God Bless you will make it through:

What the heck, I feel awful. 17 days off the med and bad withdrawals. Brain fog, no appetite, vomiting after small portions,  memory troubles,  cognitive troubles, diarrhea after I eat, much anxiety.

Was put on gaba for toes neuropathy, low dose, 100 to 300 in 3 weeks for 2 months.  Didn’t feel good so I quit. 17 days since last dose. Some of you quit larger doses.. how did you do it?  I’m feeling so scared.

After a not so bad day yesterday, today at 3 weeks off gabapentin I’m feeling so awful again! All the withdrawal symptoms are back, I worked 2 hours and had to come home. I was so worried I might get into an accident. Can’t function right now. After 3 weeks off I’m thinking for sure I’ll feel better each day?? Not..  I’m huddled on the bed. Trouble walking, shaky, anxiety, etc etc. I made myself eat a small bowl of soup.  Would have Epsom bath but afraid I might pass out. Will wait till my husband comes home. This drug scares the heck out of me 😥
