Archilles tendon --- how to sleep after surgery?!

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi all, background: completely ruptured my archilles tendon about a week and a half ago and just diagnosed last fri. Had surgery last night and now have an air boot.

Told to stay non- weight bearing for 2 weeks, then stitches to come out, then 4 weeks with instep thing to be lowered slighted each week, followed by 4 weeks with flat foot still in the boot. So total of 10 weeks in the boot.

Firstly, anyone else going through a similar treatment?

Secondly, how on earth do you sleep in this boot? Have it high on a couple of pillows and am on meds, but still v painful. I know it's only day 1, but any advice for sleeping?

Thanks in advance!

      Hi Imran,

      Bored, Bored, Bored!

unfortunately because everyone is at work, I am house bound with a few visitors but everyone has their Ian life to lead right? My  mum and dad visit and have taken me out once but apart from going to hospital for visits all rather dull. Even at weekends can't go out as my car has decided to die on me and my husband has a 2 seated can, we are a family of 3! So no not been out much at all in last 5 weeks and gate it.

      Sorry ramt over with.

What about you?, how are you thus week?

Are you still on crutches or using just one? I am trying one but not great. I don't get another ultra sound although did ask for one!

i am slowly going mad Imran.

I am on two crutches but what i am is doing two to three times a day walk on my injured foot heel, so the achilles and calf stay strong. As i am not getting any pain when i do that. I think you need to talk to the hospital and tell them to your ultrasound as its been 5 weeks for you, if i am not wrong?

Keep yourself busy, this is what i do or you will go mad, which no one want too, especially your hubby!! Lol

Yes have asked for ultra sound not getting one! As you say NHS in each area is different which is mad.

What do you mean walk on your heel? I want to do that!

      Hubby already  gone crazy.

I mean, my right injured foot, i walk on the heel, which is back part of your foot, from the bottom, front part is Toe. You must already know that, but, if you do that, do it on your own risk, lol!! As i am adventurous person. Lol

I obviously know what a heel it lol, just seemed strange you wouldn't use the whole of your foot to walk. Are you sure that's being adventurous

Oh yes!! Otherwise, just imagine, that no use of that leg for 4-8 weeks, and the muscles will get very weak and when you walk on that leg it will be very difficult, thats when Physio come into play!!
