Are these symptoms I'm getting normal for IBS sufferers

Hi All

I've been diagnosed with IBS for a few months now, and I get all the usual symptoms with it, diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, nausea, stomach and bowel churning, wind / gas. However, I also get some symptoms that are quite worrying and scary, and was wondering if any fellow IBS sufferers get this, or if anyone knows if these are normal.

I get bouts of feeling very weak, dizzy, faint to the point where I'll almost feel like I'm going to pass out, I also experience hot flushes and cold chills. These are the symptoms that I worry about most, and would like some help with. I can handle the normal IBS symptoms as I know they are typical symptoms, its the dizziness and feeling faint and weak that are the worrying ones. I'm also still loosing weight, albeit very slowly, however I contribute this to cutting out as much fat and sugar as possible, especially when I'm going through a flare up period, as I am right now.

Any help or advice about this would be greatly appreciated, especially if any of you IBS sufferers experience the same as I do.

Many thanks in advance.

You might be cutting out too much Paul. What I have been doing it trying not to let the media scare me. I scientifically look up what a male and female body needs in fat, sugar etc per day. You are probably going too far with pairing down your nutrition. I am still making mistakes but I am trying to listen to my own body and what it needs. That is not the same for everyone. Good luck 🍀

      Hi Maggie

I've got a feeling you are correct, my diet is very strict and lacking in variety, and as I've mentioned before, I can't seem to stomach fruit and vegetables at all. I know I'm lacking in vitamins and minerals, but I don't know what I can do to help this. If i was better at handling pain, I'd force myself to eat different foods, like I used to before all this started. I guess a good start will be taking some multi vitamins as the dietician has suggested, but other than that I'm pretty stuck at the moment.

Thank you for your comments, I really do appreciate them.

Yes Paul. That would be good and perhaps you could build on the veg things by trying one for a while, say strawberry and see what that does. I know my digestive system can't handle a lot of veg. Maggie x

I will do that Maggie, I definitely need to try it at least. I just worry about putting myself through more pain, but no guts, no glory I suppose.

Thank you for your help. Take care.

Excellent advice. I was doing the same but added in things like Porridge instead of Coco Pops, yes I ate very badly, with a banana and 1 tablespoon olive oil which is good fat apparently. Instead of nibbling on a choc bar I eat almonds or mixed nuts which is also good fat apparently.

Try berries. I have been eating blueberries since I was ill with pear and Greek yoghurt and very nice.

Almonds are good but even too much natural fat is too much. I try to think of the body in terms of a car. You need to put a lubricant in but not much relative to its size and of course a body needs a certain amount each few days. Sometimes nutritionist go nuts (get it)and you end up cutting out sugar and replacing it with too much fat.

A very good analogy. I would definitely agree with you but fewer than 20 seems to be a good guide. They also said cashews too. I eat fruit so I get sugar from that so pear and blueberries at the mo which is going well.

Also so eat the occasional rich tea and digestive which they were not impressed with. Good job I did not mention McVities choc digestives then. They were on special offer smile

I am am trying to get a good balance going though I do not always succeed.
