Assurance Needed

Have had trouble with full hip movement since my 20s, but 5 years ago at 48 years went to GP as pain bad enough for me yo be limping.  Under the hosp and am diagnosed osteo-arthritis in both hips but quite severe in right hip.  I go hosp every 6 months and they ask do I want to go on hip replacement list (am on meds).  I always give it another 6 months.  Am now 54 next month and am in pain and have very little sideways movement in my hips but right one is VERY painful.  I think I am at the end of my tether with it and am ready for t, but would like some assurance if poss from you who have been through the op.

Had mine done in December last year.  Had a straight forward op, with no complications and am so glad I had it done.  After being in pain for so long, it was wonderful to wake up without any.  You will find a differenbt person.  Take it easy with recovery and look after yourself.  You will find lots of helpful advice on here and encouragement and support.  Go and get it done as soon as poss.  Good luck.

Can I just ask - how long after the op b4 normal fitness stuff can be undertaken?  Also are there any hip angles or movements that should NEVER be done no matter how long after the op (ie what limitations for the rest of your life)?

    thank you xx

Hi Millie your hospital should have leaflets for patients on their website. Mine does available to anyone. Royal Surrey County Hospital.

Use their web site if you can not find any on yours. The leaflet has pictures of the exercises
