Atrophic non functioning left kidney. Should I have it removed?

Hi posted on here a while back. Eventually had appointed today with kidney specialist. I have pain in left side and microscopic blood in urine. He confirmed my kidney was totally non functioning but doesn't necessarily think it's causing the pain or the blood in urine. He has said its my choice to go ahead with the operation but by his comments I could tell he thinks I have gone with a complaint of pain they couldn't find anything else on scans etc and that this is what they did find but that's it. He in no way reassured me and it felt like he thinks I should not have it removed. I'm totally confused now and in need of some re assurance if I should or should not have this kidney out? I get bouts of intense pain in left side and feel like if anyone pushed in under the left rib I'd hit the roof. So confused.
