Atrophic Vaginitis

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hi has anyone ever had bloody discharge with this- Its not related to sex as I'm not currently in a sexual relationship. I've had this now for a week...since my pilates class six days ago.

I got told I had this condition six month ago and have been taking Vagifem 10mcg which I am using every other day.

Just concerned that the symptoms seem to be getting worse rather than better. Any advise would be great : )

This thread is kind of old, but for future readers, a bloody discharge is a normal side effect of taking hormones. I checked with my doc because I needed to know if I needed pads. In addition, she said I had an abrasion in my vaginia, which also causes bleeding (like an idiot, I asker her to define abrasion since how could I get one there since nothing had been in there?) VA itself can cause a discharge too. I am also not sexually active, but also was told sexual activity would certainly produce more blood.

So after 24 years, here I am buying pads again. All from VA and not worthy of a panic.

I have suffered with what I am told is severe vaginal atrophy and possible IC! I started using compounded DHEA vaginal suppositories on Monday after trying SO MANY things and it is working better than anything!! I would recommend it to everyone that is suffering. I have ised vagifem for 12 months previously with no real relief!!

pookie, I think you are the first to bring up DHEA suppositories!

I know some people use it as a supplement, but had no idea it was used for AV. What info did your doctor give you about it and how often do you use it ? I thought it was still considered controversial though its been around long enough for ample studies to have been done.

Was it prescribed by a GP or a specialist? I find this very interesting.

    Hi, to all,

I originally wrote this post a couple of months ago. Just wanted to update you as the discussion seems to be ongoing. I had a bad infection in the end which was causing the bloody discharge. I had BV and got treated with antibiotics. My consultant thinks getting the bv was probably connected to having AV in the first place. I am now taking Activ Balance gel pessaries once a week to help with the PH balance in my vagina- as well as continuing with Vagifem.

tracy, glad to hear you are sorted out. This is why some of us strongly recommended contacting your doc. I've always heard and read any bleeding after menopause or after use of a med should be reported asap. Although I have never heard of an infection causing bleeding. Were you told the specifics?

Could you share with us which antibiotic was prescribed? I have also had a mysterious infection for which I was finally treated with Flagyl (at my request as it has worked in the past). It seemed to have immediate effect, but may now be returning. Am having slight symptoms, so am using probiotics in an attempt to avoid too many antibiotics.

    thanks.

Beverley as I said at the time I had been regularly seeing my doctor concerning the AV and had seen someone only a month prior. It was a bacterial vaginosis infection which had caused a bloody discharge to develop I was prescribed Flagyl for and now all has settled.
