Baby shampoo for blepharitis no thanks!

Posted , 5 users are following.

I started using a solution of a very small amount of baby shampoo in a solution of hand hot water, it made my eyes red and sore, it stang, and they itch and felt inflamed, it was no use and I am obviously not suited to it, so reluctantly, as they don't work very well, gone back to wet ones, but at least they don't make my eyes flare up like the shampoo did, and the shampoo did NOT help one iota, sorry folks, once bitten twice shy, desparate now as nothing, nothing makes this dreadful complaint go away and my eyes are weepy and sore ALL the time!

    Hi Fiona

I use just a very small amounted baby shampoo while I'm in the shower just to keep my eyelashes soft & free from crusty bits !!

I always make sure I rinse my eyes really well to stop them from being sore afterwards.

Can I ask which wet ones you are using ? Red or blue ?

Well the baby shampoo wasn't working for me at all and in fact made things worse. The red top wipes, if in fact they are available, are at a premium.

I am sorry but I refuse to pay over £13.00 for 12 red top wipes, which is the cheapest they are available, it would bankrupt me.

Try L'Oreal miscella gel, about £4 a bottle UK price. Small blob on cotton wool pad, work onto second pad for few seconds. Clean eyes. Very refreshing and kept bleph at bay for 2 months now.

I reacted to baby shampoo and Wet Ones ( badly ) but this has changed my eyes!!

    Warm compresses help too.

I have applied four lots of blephaclean gel and my eyes finally went down and have stopped weeping. I trust the blephaclean more than anything loreal do as unlike blephaclean it's not actual medical or clinical.

Fiona, you might be alergic. It also mignt depend on what "kind" of baby shampoo you used. For me it's as gentle as using water. Dena

The blephagel which arrived mid morning and I have just tried out is very good and has brought down the swelling somewhat, but I won't be using the shampoo again.

I have replied to your various posts on this topic already Fiona.

Have you actually been referred to a Consultant Ophthalmologist about your eyes, you appear to be having a lot of problems?

Then perhaps you wopuldn't need to buy so many over the counter products.

The Wet wipes tell you not to get them near your eyes.

I have to have preservative free products because I am allergic to so many of the chemicals that they use in everything.

Warm compresses are the most helpful & they cost you whatever it costs you to warm your water and a flannel to use as the compress.  It makes very little difference whether or not you use baby shampoo or anything else.

Ask your GP to refer you.

If that's the same as an optician or the eye hospital, as I already said I have already been referred and seen these people and as I also said, the eye hospital failed to as much as even diagnose blepharitis but I have already said this.

An Optician is not a medical doctor.

You should go back to the hospital and don't tell them that you have Blepharitis, just tell them what is wrong, let them come up with a diagnosis.  Tell them that is has been going on for a long time etc..

Hi MrsMop, today I have found the blephagel that came in the post very helpful and soothing and my eyes are now nearly calm, I have decided to speak with my GP for another referral to the eye hospital and meanwhile ask her to put the blephagel on repeat prescription for me as of all the products there are I have found this one the most helpful, it really eased things.

I think that is wise Fiona, apart from anything else, you have ben spending a lot of money on all sorts of products & not really achieving anything.

      Good luck

Agreed, thanks, although most products I have got from my doctor in which case free bit I agree it's a trial.
