Back pain

I am 8 weeks post tkr. Since my surgery i have had terrible back pain in my lower back. Its almost where its kind of tingly like. I was thinking that maybe it was from the spinal they gave me and still think maybe it is but at PT i have been doing squats. I let my therapist know and so for a week we didn't do them. But my back ache is still there. It hurts so bad at night especially when I'm trying to sleep. I'm sleeping in my bed now thank goodness but how ever i lay its terrible pain. Any ideas on what it could be? Thank you!! I cant take ibuprofen or Advil as it makes me have an ulcer and tylenol doesn't seem to help oh and i haven't taken pain meds since Week 2 as i had an allergic reaction. Thanks again!!

i had low back pain/sciatica after surgery. i could not take pain pills due to severe vomiting. Think I was walking so poorly before surgery & then after surgery that my alignment was all off. Lots of people from this site had similar complaints. Many suggested trying a chiropractor which i did as i was so uncomfortable. Did it for about a month along with stretching. i discontinued the chiropractor & eventually the pain decreased. After a few months i started warm water aerobics and that really made a difference for me. Best of luck to you in finding relief.

If it's tingly it sounds like nerve pain. Backs don't like being in one position so it could be recent inactivity post surgery that might even have exascerbated an underlying condition. Maybe you should see your doctor? They may send you for an x-ray. I'm surprised the physio can't suggest something to help in the form of gentle stretches at least. I wouldn't ignore it. Good luck.

Sorry to say but this operaton can cause all kinds of secondary problems. It's such a major op that it disturbs things in the rest of your body. In my case, it's really affected my general health and due to a fall my back pain became worse.

However, I have recently had a generic nerve block on my knee and for some reason it has cured my back pain. (well temporarily anyway!)

I would ask about this pain relief instead of taking Ibrufen.

I also had badback pain , went to chiropractor helped a bit , also tried acupuncture which I found helped more . Its common because of change in posture and lying around etc after surgery

You really do need to see a Chiropractor if you've not already done so.

I had lower back pain for years. I was advised by consultant surgeon to take up Pilates. By the time I had my TKR, my back pain had disappeared. I made the mistake of stopping Pilates while I recovered from the op. My recovery is taking its time. Six weeks post op and not walking, the back pain returned and I realised I had become quite weak. I restarted Pilates, doing all the exercises that can be done in a chair or lying on the floor. After four weeks the back pain has gone and I feel noticeably stronger. I would recommend anyone with back pain to try Pilates.
