Back to Work - When & Risks?

Hi All,
Firstly, Thank you all for your input and advice over the last few weeks.
Yesterday I had my 6 week PO review with my surgeon, he was very happy with every aspect of my recovery. However, when I mentioned returning to work, he was adamant that not for another 6 weeks. He said that too many people feel pressure to go back to work too soon, do damage by overdoing it and kick themselves 12 - 18 months later due to some form of correction or achieving less than optimum results.
My work would require about 50/50 office/factory floor walking and an hours commute.
I would welcome input / opinions from anyone's experience.
Thanks,
Al

I had my surgeons PO review at 8 weeks. He let me chuck away my crutches then and let me drive my car again. He said I can return to work at 11 weeks (I drive buses), and my employer insisted I ease back to work. So for 3 weeks I was on employment probation, 3 days with close supervision from another driver and the next 2 and a bit weeks working half days. Then after that back to normal. No problems.
At no time did I hurry the healing process, my body was happy with 8 weeks on crutches and with the return to work process. Make every milepost a winning post then you won't run into trouble. Now 7 months PO I'm fine and don't see my surgeon again for another 5 months.

Appreciate your feedback.
How are you now?
Are you driving full time?
Are you in the US too?
Thanks,
Take care,
Alan

I'm fine thanks, some residual stiffness which appears to 'feel' that its under the kneecap, but, thats all.
I forgot to mention I had a partial knee replacement (right knee, medial compartment was a mess from osteoarthritis).
I drive between 30 and 45 hours a week on a part time basis,
guaranteed 30 hours, the extra as and when needed - or if I feel like it.
No, I'm in the far western part of Cornwall, UK, next stop Isles of Scilly, then after that a few thousand miles later - New York ! Lol !
Good luck
John
