Bad Breath/reflux? pnd? infection? Something else?

Hi,

I wasn't sure where to put this duscussion.

I've had bad breath (especially horrendous morning breath) for as long as I can remember. Probably for a good 10 years or so? (I'm 29)

I've also experience what I think is possible post nasal drip (tongue is always coated. Often feel mucus on back of throat and need to clear my thoat)

and some sort of acid reflux in my throat (occasional burning sensation below my adams apple)

Both the possible PND and reflux seemed to come on after already having bad breath for a numbe of years though, so i'm not sure if they're even related? The reflux feeling is fairly infrequent.

I also occasionally get tonsil stones.

I have good oral health. Brush twice per day, floss, moutwash. Dentist confirmed gums are healthy.

Yet I can taste bad breath coming on again shortly after my morning routine.

NOW, I recently took metronidazole for something completely unrelated, and to my utter amazement, my breath became as fresh as a babies! Reflief after a decade! Even my morning breath smelt of nothing.

I was so happy until I read online that other people had experienced this phenomenen, but that the bad breath returns when you stop taking the antibiotic.

I stopped taking it 4 days ago, and I think that my breath may finally be reverting back sad This morning wasn't quite as fresh as yesterdays. I'm depressed now that my bad breath is likely to return in full force within a few days.

I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light?

Anyone been in the same boat and found a cure?

Can any knowledge be gained from the fact that the antibiotic temporaily cured me or not?

    Hi everyone

I just wanted to thank you all for being my pillar of strength, for being there when no one was there and for giving me hope. After a painful, depressing, suicidal 10 years suffering I have now decided to accept my condition, like many people living with disabilities I am prepared to learn how to cope and get on with life. To God, only you know why you chose me but all I can say is I am hurting but I am accepting. I will be seing a Psychiatrist regularly until the day I meet my ancestors. All the best guys I love you all.

      Hey Brandon

This is not the easiest thing I've ever had to deal with. And unlike most problems, this one follows you wherever you go- even total strangers get wind of it. My friends make snide remarks and pull faces when they think I can't see them. My family does the same. I feel so bad for my students who I have to teach all day. I would quit my job but trying to find a lasting solution to this problem has left me penniless. What bittersweet irony, that the one thing I need to do my job is the one thing that fails me. I'm living in a vacuum. No friends, no family around me. I cry to God and ask him what sort of existence this is.

What I do know is that part of the cause is anxiety. I get really anxious, especially when I have to be around people. These days its even people I know. My mouth gets this funny metallic taste and I just KNOW that the situation has gotten worse.

So you could jave something going there. It could be psychological.

I may have missed something but you are in RSA yes? I'm pretty close by actually. It would be good to know how you get on. We all need to lean on each other through this. I do wish you the best.

    Hi Chi1

It is indeed unbelievable that God would allow his children to go through such pain (understatement), but then again many people live with disabilities or worse poverty, abuse etc.

It is INCREDIBLY difficult living with this condition making it hard to even do little things like going to the grocery store. Each of us have a heartbreaking story to tell, we have already established that and we have already established that we are far from finding the cure so yes Chi1 we have to find a way to live with the problem. I consulted with a psychiatrist and I am 3 days in antidepressants and I'm feeling alright, the doctor says I'll feel even better in a few weeks/ month. The science behind antidepressants is insane!! I still have BB but for some awkward reason Im starting to feel so alive and the will to live is slowly returning.

Payer: Lord please save us from this illness, is it a disability? Lord then understand that in this disability although we have eyes, ears, hands and legs we are unable to use and appreciate all of it. Lord please hear our cry. Amen

    Hi Kurt

Have you ever at some point, could be months or even years back where a really bad smell came out your ears? I once had this bad bad smell some out my ears about 8 years ago but not anymore. thanks man I'll c my ENT about it.

    Yo Kurt

Prior to getting IV treatment have you ever had antibioti

c treatment? I ask because growing up I had ear infection issues because I had gotten a small stone in the ear but that was resolved and treated and I never had ear problems since. Ontop of that over the years iv had several courses of antibiotics which surely should've sorted out the remaining infection if there was any, which now gives me so much doubt that the BB is due to the ear infection, but anyway I'll see my ENT about it.

Antibiotic trestments havent been working. Theyve reduced the infection a lot, but its really hard for the drugsto get into the sir pockets within the mastoid bone.

I have never gad anyone tell me or my ears smell bad, the sulfur coming into my throat and out of my nostrils is where it primarily came from. But also, I've never asked anyone to smell my ears before, and the smell was powerful enough coming out of my nose to create a plume surrounding me. Mostly, since I've learned of the ears asa culprit, Ive noticed the sandpaper biofilm feel in my sinus coming out of my eustachian tube- these empty into the top of your cheeck sinus.

What i started doung was sinus rinses with my head parallel with the floor and my right ear facing the ground, and everyday I get a few balls of puss to shoot out. The amount of the puss has gone down a lot, but I cant get inside my mastoid bone on my own. Try plugging your nose and blowing out, your ears will pop, and you'll feel pressure right at the sinus/ear juncture if its your ears. The ears where never the source of my bb, but they arethe last repository where the bacteria collected that must be eliminated otherwise the inf will spread back through all of my sinus, down my throat, thru my GI, and out my urine stream.

I should have been seeing a rhinologist and an infectious disease specialist from the start of fighting this 3 years ago. Too late. For Inf Dis Specialist, but at least my rhinologist understands the infectious nature of the bacteria, whereas the ENTs seemingly couldnt think their way out of a paper bag to help me. The right docs are critical, make sure theyrre good at their job too. Research their credentials

I really value this info coz I am a victim of a serious ear infection but I never really saw it as a BB culprit, so u say u cured it 100% BB that is? with this approach.

Ya, its the final piece to my puzzle. Its the reason why I could beat the infection down to nothing repeatedly, only to have the mucus and odor come back...quickly. I hesitate to say I'm 100% cured because of how much this bacteria resembles cancer, but I will say that I now know how to stay in remission with the means and knowledge I've learned without being dependant on doctors for drugs and treatment.

I meet with my rhinologist on monday, we'll see what he says. I'll keep you updated
