Bad Breath/reflux? pnd? infection? Something else?

Hi,

I wasn't sure where to put this duscussion.

I've had bad breath (especially horrendous morning breath) for as long as I can remember. Probably for a good 10 years or so? (I'm 29)

I've also experience what I think is possible post nasal drip (tongue is always coated. Often feel mucus on back of throat and need to clear my thoat)

and some sort of acid reflux in my throat (occasional burning sensation below my adams apple)

Both the possible PND and reflux seemed to come on after already having bad breath for a numbe of years though, so i'm not sure if they're even related? The reflux feeling is fairly infrequent.

I also occasionally get tonsil stones.

I have good oral health. Brush twice per day, floss, moutwash. Dentist confirmed gums are healthy.

Yet I can taste bad breath coming on again shortly after my morning routine.

NOW, I recently took metronidazole for something completely unrelated, and to my utter amazement, my breath became as fresh as a babies! Reflief after a decade! Even my morning breath smelt of nothing.

I was so happy until I read online that other people had experienced this phenomenen, but that the bad breath returns when you stop taking the antibiotic.

I stopped taking it 4 days ago, and I think that my breath may finally be reverting back sad This morning wasn't quite as fresh as yesterdays. I'm depressed now that my bad breath is likely to return in full force within a few days.

I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light?

Anyone been in the same boat and found a cure?

Can any knowledge be gained from the fact that the antibiotic temporaily cured me or not?

Got you. I am hesitant to seeing my doctor about this because I fear dissapointment so I googled 'antibiotic ear drops'. I know self medicating isn't good but I'm going to get my hands on a good product and see if it will bring any change. If not I'll then see my my doctor and talk about it. Or should I just see the doctor first.

My goodness, we have to go through so much to help ourselves. Thanks though, for now I'll try the eardrops because Stage3 sinus irrigation with all the products you mentioned failed me.

It'll take time to get good at doing the rinses, and its not an instant cure either. Have to do it regularly for a few weeks.

Plug both of your nostrils and blow out which should make your ears pop. Right where you feel air pressure building up is where your ear tubes meet the maxillary sinus, feel a film coating there? Anything abnormal? Thats where you've got to get the rinses to saturate.

    hi everyone

I have some great news. I am now 100% bad breath free. It is all gone. I would like to thank Mike666 for this forum, everyone else for the emotional support and especially Kurt for literally saving my life.

Mr Kurt I owe you man.

So here's what happened. I used normal saline ear drops, i am on antipshycotics and I'm using Sensodine toothpaste. I literally did not know this could heal me, those who follow me know that I've literally tried everything.

Thanks guys and praise the Lord!

      Hi Everyone

I'm Jerry from China. This is my first post after a few days of following this forum.

Congradulations man! It's so good to know that you cured from this devastating symptom, and I truly understand what you been dealing with. I honestly can't thank you and along with Mike and Kurt and everthone else who participated and shared useful information on this forum, even just for the hope of knowing that there actually is a cure, as I've come across so many helpless and couldn't-care-less doctors in China. I have to purchase VPN access and spend days on dictionary to be able to understand whats being discussed in here, lol.

Anyways, can you just elaborate a little more on your treatment, and what did you think was the diagnose or root of your problem? As I'm having difficulty understanding how the Ear Drops solution that Mr Kurt offered could help with Bad Breath.

Congradulations again man! I'd really like to know how your new life's treating you? Please share with me about the life that I've been dreaming of for almost 20 years(I'm 28).

Finally a big shout out to everyone for sharing and being so helpful to this cause.

Just want to thank y'all again for giving me a hope.

I think I have made some headway too.

I had a severe breakdown a couple of weeks ago and just flat-out refused to go to work. Ended up seeing a gastro and an endoscopy later, she pronounced my upper GIT fit - bar a hertial hernia. So now I eat small quantities of food and have been put on a PPI for a month.

But that besides, I really, really had reservations on Kurt's advice with the baby shampoo. I bought three bottles and tried it once without the hydrogen peroxide. No-can-do. Then in an act of desperation I tried soda and baby shampoo because I had run out of non-iodised salt and was low on tea-tree oil.

It has been over a week now. And? Previously I would smell and taste my breath when I sat down, mouth closed or not. Now, even after a day of talking, provided I have not subjected myself to reflux-triggering food (mint flavoured gum is just THE WORST!) I'm OK.

No, I am not 100% cured. I still have a lot of pshycological issues to work through and I think it was the anxiety of offending so many people with my breath that often exacerbated my problem. That coupled with poor dietary, lifestyle choices and bucketfuls of stress. My breath still does get a trifle rank but what I have now is NOTHING compared to what it was when I had my extraction.

After brushing my teeth, I gargle with hydrogen peroxide and tilt my head back as far as I can so the solution can get up as close to my adenoids as possible.

But yes, if you dare, I do recommend the idea of snorting baby shampoo a try. My sinuses wake up clear for the first time in forever and it's winter over here.

I will update in a month or two on my progress but right now- I have been cloaked in the veil of humanity once again and I plan to make a load of lifestyle and personality changes.

Thank you Kurt and thank you Brandon. If there was a way I could meet you both because you have helped me get through trying times knowing there are other people out there also seeking answers and not giving up.

NB: My upper 3rd molars never came out. One of them has sarted muisbehaving now and I am well into my 30's. So I am planning to see a dental surgeon to have them pulled out. I think there may be a link to what I endured and that somehow.

And yes, Praise the Lord indeed! Goodness knows how many mornings and nights I cried for being such a freak. My entire life came to a standstill and now I am planning a road trip round the country of my birth smile

Dilute the hydrogen peroxide in purified water, you should not gargle it straight up. It'll have the same effect as using to much alcohol based mouth wash; it'll make the problem/odor worse
    • Posted

5 parts water to 1 part hydrogen peroxide, if you have enough time you should gargle 8oz total, 2oz mouthfuls

I have no personal experience with ear drops, but I assume ehat brandon did is put the ear drops in, let it saturate theough the tympanic membrane with his head sideways, getting the drops into his middle ear where the bacteria was, killing it, and allowing the debris to naturally process out of his ear by draining theough the eustachian tube, into the maxillary sinus, and out through his throat/nose

Another thing I learned about antibiotic resistant soft tissue diseases- there was a link found 5 years ago between recurrent infection and vitamin D3 deficiency. Blood test done on me showed 0 D3 in my system, my doc advised me to take 10,000 units(mg) a day. I began noticing that the infection was coming back much more slowly between rinses, and eventually didnt come back at all. D3 fuels your bodies natural defense against soft tissue disease. HUGELY IMPORTANT IMO

Did you ever lose your sense of smell?

I have used soda and baby shampoo this morning. On a chair. Leaning to my side and as far back as I could go. I always wondered why you complained about your eyes stinging- now I know. Now I know...

But ever since I started snorting the shampoo, my sense of smell has grafually reduced. And today I can't smell anything. My voice sounds nasal too. Flu-ish I would say.

I poured out tons of mucus tho. It came in bubbles 😩. Then started noticing flecks of bright yellow in it. Think I'm getting somewhere here...

I'm hoping the loss of smell and taste is a temp issue?

What I did for the eye dryness/stinging, I used chronic dry- eye drops to mosturize- kind of expensive my insurance wouldnt pay for them, restasis is the brand I used. I would also use visine if my eyes were red from dryness, but the visine makes your eyes burn too, so i was really apprehensive about the amount and frequency in which i used it. I was far more concerned about losing sight than smell.

I eventually got used to next to no sense of smell, its not that bad. Cost v reward analysis

Vitamins are not tested for in a standard blood test, request they be tested by your doctor

Ok, ya...i looked into it and there is an additive chemical in j&j that effects the sense of smell. I was not able to find if its temporary or permanent but i have stopped j&j as of today and replaced it w an organic alternative. I did not realize this prior to today, my sense of smell was already gone due to severity of the 1st FESS procedure I underwent.

I am so sorry Chi if this is permanent.

My rhinologist told me awhile ago, surfactant medications mimmicing baby shampoo will take a few more years to get fda approval

I'll lay off the shampoo for a while and stick to gargling hydrogen peroxide for a week then we'll see how it goes from there.

Probably also reduce my nasal rinses to 2 or 3 times a week with just dalt and bicarb and see how it goes from there.

Yes, I'm also hoping its not permanent.

Sudafed24hris hugely beneficial in cutting the mucus production, take 1 a day. In my experience, that works very well but how well depends on the severity. It'll cut the reproduction rate of the bacteria massively

I'll go 50/50 with the whys and whereofs of all the possible side effects of this and that.

Truth be told, the less I can smell, the less pnd I suffer. It's a little complex. But like you said, its a cost v rewards analysis.

Only hoping that it pays off.

Do you have a doctor? By seeing the improvement w a baby shampoo rinse versus one without it, you have identified that there is a biofilm forming atop the infected tissue blocking it from medication. Youve also identified the area of thr infection as the nasopharnyx- its either the adenoids or soft palate or both like mine was. Fastest way to recover is through surgically removing the adenoids- hardly even surgery. 2 cuts 30 minutes, scabs for that stink for upwards of 2 weeks. Clindamycin 300mg 3 times daily is the best script a doc can write.

Talk to a pharmacist about otc products for post nasal drip and rub it on your uvula and upper throat

Closest Rhino or ENT specialist is over 500km away.

      Just hoping for the best.

Will bounce there in a month or so and see what can be done.

Staying positive. Will update as I go along.

Manuca honey is safe, and works in fighting biofilms forming atop the adenoids

Phew! Would have hated to have heen responsible for your lost sense of smell

Id rather put the honey in my mouth😋.

Can't get manuca honey here or orgànic baby shampoo. Such a pity. I felt I was making real progress.
