    Hi Lorraine,

Baking soda is the same as bicarbonate of soda. They are both sodium bicarbonate, but it's called different names in different countries, which is confusing. :-)

You can buy bicarb kf soda in small tubs at the supermearket, but by the kilo on ebay or amazon.    Its used in bathbombs but i have no idea if these are any use for LS.    Has Anyone experimented?

Hi, yep, its one and the same thing . I put two pinches in a small spray bottle and use this after each visit to the loo. Then I use Hydromol as a barrier cream. Works brilliantly for me.good luck x

      Brilliant!,

That's a great help ,is hydromol the same as Vaseline?,

      Thanks for your help,

You are all lovely stars, xx

No, hydromol  contains a humectant, it helps draw moisture into the skin....  You can google, how hydromol works to see more info....

i would be a bit wary of vaseline...  Its derived from petroleum which will eventually dry out the skin....    As far as i am concerned it would be emergency use only, not a long term option.

No Lorraine, don't use Vaseline, Hydromol OINTMENT feels a bit like Vaseline but its safe and hypo allergenic so will not harm your skin and is a wonderful barrier and moisturiser. Vaseline has petro chemicals in it. I was told by gynae not to use it under any circumstances. I use Aveeno body wash too (Amazon) and that is brilliant too. That was recommended by dermatologist. I use Dermovate twice a week for maintenance and have had no white patches, itching or tears for a year now. By the way, you can put the Hydromol on 30 mins after the Dermovate. Hope this helps you. This is a wonderful forum. I've learnt more here and had more support than from any medical person no matter how many letters they have after their names ! I felt very alone and frightened before I found it. Welcome to the fold xx

No problem hon 😊. Were you told to rub in the Dermovate for 90 seconds ? this is VERY important and was never mentioned to me ! most women are frightened to use a steroid because of thinning of the skin but LS causes skin to thicken and the inflammation is in the deep layer off the skin so needs to be rubbed in thoroughly. If you use Dermovate CREAM get your Dr to switch you to the OINTMENT as this spreads better and absorbs better.

Re bubble bath, we've all been there, some times you just want to do something "normal" and pamper yourself with bubbles, it doesn't seem too much to ask and you thick you'll get away with it ' just the once' - but we live n learn eh ? I HATE, HATE, HATE LS . Thank God for all you ladies on here xx

Thanks wasnt told to rub dermavate in for that long in grrr. Also I wash and shower in the dermovate cream does the ointment act as a barrier cream?

Sorry, how do you mean you wash and shower in the Dermovate cream ? No the Dermovate ointment doesn't act as a barrier. Its much better to apply and seems to absorb into the skin better. The Hydromol ointment is an excellent barrier/moisturiser.

Sorry I mean I wash using epiderm cream which my Dr and nurse suggested was best but perhaps it is not quite right if others are not using it to wash?

      Hi Twigs

I use Epaderm to wash with and find it the best of all the lotions and potions. I also carry a small tub in my bag for when I have to use a toilet without a washbasin nearby. I've been using it for 5 years and haven't found anything better. I also use bicarbonate of soda and borax which have massively reduced my symptoms. Look for the thread on here 'An experiment with Borax'

Good luck, there is hope, I'm so much better than I was 5 years ago. I think of it as something like Diabetes. It won't go away but can be managed and I don't think about it all the time any more.

Thanks to that. I do keep mine under control but sometimes get a bit slack and then pay for it.

      cheers
