Before when I've had an outbreak I've got rapidly better once using the steriod cream but this time I'm still sore and swollen after 8 days. The itching has improved but swelling still bad. How long does it normally take to get some real relief? Thanks in advance

Just realized that I've been prescribed Eumovate by my GP and not Dermovate (clobetasol) And I see that its much less potent than the Dermovate .... Maybe that is why I'm not responding. Hopefully the specialist will put me on the dermovate. I've been scarying my self @**!less today googling what can happen. I'm also not sure if I have lichen planus or lichen schelosus and not sure which is the worst to have. Am getting myself in a right tizz thinking I'll never be able to have sex again etc etc. Husband very supportive but some of the stories I've read .... Heartbreaking what this thing can do. Also scared of having a biopsy - makes my toes curl just thinking about it. Has anyone been treated by Cari Aplin in Bath (UK)? out there.

      Kate DO NOT BE SCARED!

The chances are your problems are caused by you scratching and settng up a reaction. Ask for the Clobetsol telling the Gynae you understand the implications. IF you can screen print the slides from Dr G's talk print off the relevant  slides and show them to the medic- there are the bullet point slides that are useful - dont forget to get ALL his qualifications and where he operates from

Going back to your symptoms. What happens when youscratch a bite/ sting? what happens if you DONT scratch a bite/ sting. If you are like me  if if i scratch i swell up  dramatically- if I manage to leave alone the bite is a small blister for a few days. so Kate Dont think the worst - think of other possibilities  that are far more likely

L Planus can affect all areas of the body - mouths are really grim -no food or booze....painful teeth and gums..... so undercarriages are possbily not quite SO bad....?

Try a vibrator if penetration is a problem!

I saw the vulva dermatologist today. She said its not erosive lichen planus, there are no signs of lichen schlerosus (ie no white patches of skin) but that could be because its cleared up so she thinks it might be either a eczema type thing or lichen simplex chronicus. She's given my stronger steriod ointment and told me to use a emollient moisturizer - like vaseline but very pure. Both to be used 2 x per day. If its not cleared up in 4-6 weeks she will do a punch biopsy just to check exactly what it is. She said it looked very sore and inflamed. So still in the dark at the moment and still itchy and sore but hugely relieved that nothing looks too dreadful. Thanks for the support over the last few days everyone.

It sounds like you're in good hands, Kate. A bunch of us have discovered that while we're flared up, using something as heavy as Vaseline as a barrier to urine really helps. Some of us carry a little jar in our purses so we can apply a bit before peeing. Also you might think about anything in your diet that could be making your urine and poo kind of caustic. I had suspected sugar for a long time and decided to try cutting way back. It made a big difference really quickly. With that success behind me I gradually cut out coffee, which it turns out was the culprit in my runny poo, which gave me a red, sore area around my anus that made me squirm in my seat. That's all clear now. Anyway, these are specific to me.

Just some things to look at while you're waiting for the ointment to work, which takes time.

Hi 'Tis good that your steroid has been increased and that although your symptoms are not classic LS or LP you should satand a good chance ofgetting better soon - all that fear served little purpose. Do drink a lot of clear fluids  to dilute the urine, in the "old days" barley water was a good standby for urine tract infections - that caused the soreness and irritation around the urethra - it may help? Sometimes a vaginal discharge can be irritating too - even the normal discharge that keeps the vagina moist and healthy - so lots of barrier ointment

Hope things calm down for you soon. If diet DOES play a part  it may be a Good Thing to keep a food diary for a couple of weeks....You may be able to identify your culprit

I am currently not using anything after my short stint , about a week and a half,  of applying Clob, I developed severe urethral inflammation.  I had urethral spasms, general tenderness in that area that actually felt referred to my clitoris. My urologist ruled out infection and actually saw tissue sloughing around my urethra. Needless to say, I'm terrified to put ANYTHING down there. I've even stopped my estrace. Had anyone ever used Atopiclair?  It's supposed to be free of irritants bit still provide the benefits of Clob.  I'm also curious,  has anyone experienced anything similar to my troubles?

Hi Jacqueline--I've developed a lot of urethral irritation and clitoral irritation during the same couple of months that I've been using the clob.  I haven't been sure if it's the clob or my LS progression since I just got LS this past year.  Now I'm also wondering if it is the clob.  Please let us know how you do without it.  I am not familiar with the Atopiclair.  Good luck to you!

I meant to add, my left outer labia is bright red, no pain, no itching.  So weird, right?

The reaction in the outer labia makes me wonder about allergic reaction/sensitivity or infection (though infections would likely have pain).
