been waiting weeks to go for AAA op

after been diagnosed with a 7ctm AAA the consultant told me I urgently needed a Endovasular op, that was 4/5 weeks ago and I found out this morning I won't be seeing the surgeon until 29th Sep when he will talk me through the procedure and hopefully when I will have it. I'm 78, male, and I know this could burst any time and at my age it would be fatal so you can guess how I feel, after reading all the other messages about the pain after the op supprised me as the op is not open surgery but a bit like key hole surgery from what I been told, any help and advice would be appreciated, thank you. Results from my husband's angiogram in June 2016, presented an anuyerism of 4.5 cm. After a conference of Cardiologist's and surgeons met to discuss his case.

It was asessed that he could wait for six months for an MRI to determine growth, if any. At 5.5 cm is the time when they go in for surgery. He will have a MRI in November as he plans on retiring in December.

It is hard for me to believe your aortic anuyerism is 7 cm. and that they haven't performed surgery yet!

    You are one lucky person!

September 29th is in eight days. Hopefully you'll have surgery real soon after that.

We have a month and a half before he has an MRI. He was put on a Statin medication that is in addition to his blood pressure med. I think that has been doing it's job.

Good luck with your surgery and post-op recovery.

At least you and my husband have had a "second chance" at life since the diagnosis. I pray it will continue after surgery!

thank you for your reply Retire, yes I am lucky to have found the AAA,( It can't be my time to go over just yet)   the only reason I gather for the delay is simply too many patients waiting for ops which are as urgent as mine, (we are all growing to a  ripe old age and the NHS can't handle it, god knows what the future will hold, once again thank you for your reply , hope everything goes well for your husband, James

Hi Retire, just to let you know I saw the consultant yesterday 29th and it was not good news, he told me the aneurism is in the wrong place to do a Endovascular Op, I was really gutted to hear that, I told him I dreaded the open surgery and then he told me there is a possible alternative, he said a new type of endovascular Op is possible, they have to insert grafts onto your kidney arteries as well as the aorta so no doubt it will be a lot longer procedure , I think it's called FENESTRASTION but I'm not a hundred per cent sure, they are going to meeting on Monday and then let me know if it can be done, if not the only Op left is Open Surgery which I dread after reading all the nightmare stories and the fact that I'm 78 is very very risky, sorry about this long message but I'm in a mental state at present. Hi everyone just want some feed back if you underwent a open AAA, My hubby was 55 when he underwent his operation April 15, AAA was 5.3, it was detected acidently by a scan that he needed to check his kidneys as he had high protenuira in a Rand urine test,. his uncle too had  AAA about acouple of months prior to him he was close to 80, so it is in the family, they both had open surgery, my hubby stayed in hospital for 14 days where as his uncle was for about a week, his uncle was fine, but now has 2 hernias which he is waiting to get operated on, my hubby it took a while due to other issues, the docot said that maybe becasue the bowel was moved for qite a while, as the opertion took over an hour, after the operation 1st week he was not too bad after the 1st week he was vomiting, temps, blood in stools, they did a few CTs but the  graft was fine, he had a GI check him he also had some filberation and had hot flushes on face, I think because of the abmount of morphine he used while in hospital, ow his heart beat is alright and so are the flushes they were ok about a month after the oepration, however every three months since operation he would get bad stomach cramps and vomit, we were in hospitals every three months, where they would give him stong pain killers do an ultra sound or Ct and nothing showed up. however 1/1/16 same thing pains vomiting, this time a temp they did xray nothing showed up then they did a ct and showed that there was some freefluid near appendix, and the appendix was abojut 5mm, I think and they did removed his appendix the doctor went through the same opening brom belly button to pubic area, this time no stitches but  staples , hubby said the stiches were better there was a small opening near the belle button and it took time to heal, the doctor was not concerned about it, and that was sorea and tender to touch even once the staples came out, however it was alright, I thought well this could have been the cause of the vomiting and it will be fine, nope April 16, same issue back to hospital, stayed about 2 nights now they said it could be due to scarring and there could be a kink that set in and that is why the vomiting, and  stomach issues.

Anyway, a couple of months ago he discover a lump near belly button and it was confirmed that he has a hernia now size of a tennis ball a bit bigge I think now he will be going foraother oepration this time they might cut him awy from the previous two, operations, The doctor who did the AAA said that he had a lot of scar tissue in stomach, and tht his stomach is weak, o this could be the issue,

He also had his yearly scan and they aso detected another small anneurism this was not detected on the normal scan without the dye, that he did for the appendic but with the dye which he did three moths later, same there is plaque and thrombus  just like the other as well as a disection i n the artery the docotr said that that wa where the clamp was placed for his first operation and tht there was a ark I was aware of thi as hey said that it did not go back to normal however he had a few scans done  with dye and they told tht they noted this mark, but this is the first time they used the term o  the report as a disection I asked the doctor what is this about and he said that was the same mark I told you where the clamp was placedit did not go back to normal we have to see him in two hyears time, he was happy with the graft and the flow, My hubby quit smoking for the 3es time a month ago, Waiting to get the reapair to the hernia doe sometime this month, since the hernia popped out, funny there has been no vomiting epesodes I asked the surgeon about it he said this would have nothing to do with it but I still cannot get as to how the vomiting stopped since tis hapened, Just hoping everything would resolve and come back to normal by the help of God been through a bit, I just want to know if any of you had these issues and needed hernia repairtrs after AAA. God Bless you all
