Beer/Wine/spirit Time

twenty five years ago I worked nights in a hospital, had three kids under five, was doing a degree as a mature student, taking my mother in law for daily radiotherapy, and looking after my own mum.

I didn't work every night and my body clock was wrecked. I'd come back from work at 6am and think nothing of having a large vodka tonic whilst making breakfast. My excuse to myself was its no different to someone coming home at night and destressing with a drink.

id then walk kids to school, take mil to hospital, go to uni three times a week for a few hours, another  vodka after school pick up, and wine with meal if not working that night.

What I'm really trying to find out is why we look upon drinking in the morning as being desparate. Not now, but years ago if I wanted a drink in the morning I'd have one or two then nothing for the rest of the day.

It amazes me when I read posts on here about people who go all day and start drinking at 8pm and down a couple of bottles of wine. Some start at lunchtime, others 6pm. If I was one a binge time was immaterial. This was after I gave up my night job.

How many on the forum drink in the morning? or drink during the night? I often hear the phrase 'soon be wine time'

Airport drinking is another anomaly. I always book early morning flights and my holiday begins at the airport. My poor husband always looks mortified asking for prosecco at 5/6 am. I have usually 3 glasses, nothing on the plane and a drink with dinner.

I get ready night before we travel, don't go to bed and leave home about 2.30am so am ready for a drink.

I do apologise for this peculiar topic and for rambling on. Regulars here know I suffer really badly with insomnia, this will be my fourth night without sleep. I went to bed at 10.00pm, wide awake at midnight, so will try again when finished this boring discussion.

VL this is not a peculiar topic, as all who suffer AUD have their own methods of dealing with it.

Sometimes, if stressed, Jim starts at breakfast time. Other days he starts at lunchtime. Best days are when he starts mid-afternoon and doesn't have a stressful event which keeps him drinking till he falls asleep.

There isn't (of course) a right or wrong way. Everyone is different, even from day to day.
