Being lightheaded for a year on and off

Hi guys,

I’ve been feeling lightheaded/ dizzy/off balance (on and off) for over a year. Actually I hesitant to call it dizziness because it’s not a spinning sensation (I had vertigo before, I know how it feel). It’s hard to explain but I’ll do my best to explain it. First of all, I do not feel like I used to do. I get tired much much faster, sometimes I feel like I’m going to fall, but I’ve never fallen so far. My eyes are sometimes weird, there’s no double vision, blurry, whatsoever, But just weird. I sometimes have pain in the temple or in the forehead but I cannot tell if it’s related to dizziness.  The lightheadedness sensation is on and off (or better to say better and worse) feeling. I can tell that this feeling is always with me but sometimes for no apparent reason it gets worse. Usually when I wake up in the morning, the feeling is less intense, but as the day goes by, it gets worse. It’s usually the worst in the evening time. When it gets worse, I start to sweat and feel weakness in my legs. I’ve done multiple blood tests for all different reasons and all came back normal. I’ve done MRI for my head and sinuses which was clear. I’ve gone to ENT and I’ve had different vestibular tests which all were fine. I don’t think it is anxiety, because I’m not an anxious person. I appreciate any help.

    How well is your digestion?

Do you have gallstones , gallbladder or gastritis issues?

Why do you think indigestion has anything to do with this condition?  I have started thinking the same thing but not sure why.  Let me know your thought and thank you

I had an endoscopy last year, it was clear. Other than that, I don't have any discomfort in my stomach. but I sometimes feel nausea.

I had acid reflux for a while and diagnosed with gastritis and one day I had bit severe digestion issues which caused my actual vertigo(room spinning) , I do suffer with stomach bloating and burping and found my gallbladder was not working, that's where my dizziness started and now I have Gallstones. So all these issues started for me when my digestion is out of order. So access yourself and check for acid reflux, gastritis and gallbladder working with hida scan or it got stones.

Can I know why you did endoscopy, what symptoms made you to do endoscopy?

I intially had gastritis and then non working gallbladder then the dizziness started, so I feel very sure they are related. So please check gallbladder working with hida scan and ultrasound for any stones. Also your B12 levels.

I had nausea all the time. It came for no reason. I did all blood test things and all came back normal. Then, I went to specialist, and I asked him to order for an endoscopy. Endoscopy result were clear. Doctor prescribed some anti nausea medications for me. I took them for awhile and the nausea feeling went away. It sometimes come back though!

Did you check your gallbladder with ultrasound and hida scan? If not, better to do it to rule out it is not due to digestion issues.

It's something I have been dealing with also since the middle of June last year but for the first month I actually had virtgo I couldnt look up or no other side to side with out the world wanting to spin but now the only problem I have is the occasionally feeling off balance like I'm constantly lightheaded it's worse as the day goes on or if I am extremely tired and when I lay down to sleep. I know it sucks but after awhile you kind get us to it or at least I did....I'm not trying to scare you but when I went in to the ER a few months after cause I was having all this they told me some people never find out whats wrong and in our case we might not so I try and live with it the best I can doing certain things to make it not as bad stay away from anything with caffeine (coffee, tea, pop) but know there is at least one person out there that is going through what you go through down to the very last symptom. I hope you get through it is a tough thing to go through stay strong and keep pushing forward.

Thanks my friend for you advice, I appreciate it. Well I tried to get used to it, but I couldn't. I used to work 10 hours without getting tired but now, even 4 hours is a lot! I'm still trying to get along with it, but on the other side, I'm trying to detect and solve the root cause.

Have you tried to evaluate your neck. Going to a good chiropractor and doing so may give you the answer. Good luck!

Well, I have no pain or stiff neck whatsoever. Do I still need to go to a chiropractor? By the way, when I move my head side to side or up and down, I get that lightheaded feeling.

You don’t have to feel any discomfort in your neck, but it worth to check it by an experienced chiropractor. In some cases it may be the cause of dizziness.

I am so sorry to hear of your dilemena. I too for the first time experienced vertigo about a year age and it stayed with my for three months then went away completely. I went to the hospital one night because the off balance was very bad and they did blood work and a cat scan and a EKG and the results came up with nothing.  I agree, it wasn't exactly a dizziness but an off balance feeling which scares me. I have been on a course of antibiotics, nose drops, ear drops , exercises and I am diagnosed with Benign Positional Vertigo. sound like a good diagnosis but I still want it to go away forever and not sure why it doesn't. I also notice it has something to do with  stomach issues, that is how it started and when it came back it was stomach issues that precipitated the event so I will look into that.  Please feel better and hope you get well soon.

What stomach issue you have? so BPPV should present all the time, the feeling I've got is on and off feeling. I don't know!  My ENT did not believe it is BPPV. I also feel nausea sometimes, but I think that's a different issue.

      Hi Carole,

I too have BPPV.  I get it seasonally. usually April/March   and then in Sept/Oct.    I usually have it last for about 2 weeks, but this pat spring it went on for 6 weeks.    I had some relief only for it to return w weeks ago.

Last wek I went to physio to have an assessment done with a vestublar therapist.  He did all kinds of crazy tests, and used to goggles for testing.  He performed the Epley on me.  Well, that was not nice.    Since then I still do not want to do anything to provoke the spins,  but I just feel so off balance.    I am going back tomorrow for a recheck.   Have you ever done any of the manoeuvers to eliminate the bppv?
