Being re-referred to hospital
Posted , 9 users are following.
Hello girls ( and gentlemen!)
Have just gotten back from seeing my doc who is very concerned about what has been going on over the past four weeks.
She has put me up to 20mg and is re-referring me urgently to the hospital as she wants me to have further scans etc as she is concerned that something might have been overlooked.
She has also asked me to have a blood test to ascertain my 'levels' ( cannot remember what they are called at the moment) even though the past two have shown no significant rise in markers.
She will also see me in three weeks time.
She agreed that the drop from 15 to 10 was far too precipitous and that this has given rise to the problems I have been having..... BUT the 15mg are now not controlling the pain....
Didn't mean to but wept throughout the consultation.... she was lovely.... have known her a long time and she did say that I must be in severe pain to even contemplate taking steroids let alone an increased dose!
I am one of those people who have to be absolutely desperate to take anything so she actually voiced this and said she knew absolutely how dire the pain must be to see me weeping and agreeing to take 20mg
Fingers crossed hospital will see me sooner rather than later...... last year my urgent referral at the end of June resulted in me seeing the consultant at the beginning of October

But I do know at least one person on this site who hasn't managed one holiday whilst with PMR/GCA for some years so I do think it comes back to this \"We're all different\" thing again. Not just PMR and how it shows (I've always found the unpredictability from day to day difficult when planning things), but also what sort of support we have. Have we a partner who can help rather than hinder, are we still in paid employment like the several teachers who've contributed here in which case just having a complete rest at home, doing nothing, might be their aim. I just don't want anyone to feel they should be doing more than perhaps they are happy with, just because others can - especially when one is just learning to cope with what helps and what doesn't!
Sorry, I feel like a real wet blanket  Don't mean to but I just think there may be people out there who would love to take off to that gorgeous sun and warmth we would all love but just can't face the thought yet, or maybe can't for other reasons. Of course there is light at the end of the tunnel, and if it's something you really want go for it. Pick the right time and place for you.
Personally I have found the worst thing about being away from home is the bad sleep! At least at home I can get up and do a wander or get a cup of tea. Try doing that in a hotel at 2 o' clock in the morning!
[u:9623db3453]TWO[/u:9623db3453]lots of marmalade, Betty, wow!
Sorry again to sound a note of caution, especially when I see this site as such a source of encouragment. I shall probably wish I hadn't added my pennysworth once I've pressed \"Submit\". Anyway have a great day whatever you are all doing......Green granny[/color:9623db3453]

Enjoyed reading every single one and won't comment individually except to say will certainly sit down later today with hubby and talk seriously about what we will do with his two weeks holiday time at the end of March. I feel desperate for some sunshine :P
Think it is Pauline who is off shortly to sunnier climes so have a great time and bring some sunshine back!

I think with PMR it is a case of anything you want to do and achieve is good for you With my first bout of PMR I could have done and enjoy the long drive LIzzie Ellen did last year to Spain but I know this time i couldnt do it or would suffer if I did and as I have said all my trips have been done with ease and convenience in mind
Last year achievements were Would you believe !!!!!! when I could actually reach down and up to clean my house properly for what felt like the first time in months !! and the first time I managed to get out and really sort my garden out When I mucked my horses out last year all the wheelbarrows were left for my husband , this year I can do it
I certainly feel sorry for the \"workers \" on the site I always worked under pressure , time deadlines ,constantly being interupted ,phones , customers etc so I am sure there wouldnt have been enough Adreneline in my body to cope with the stress let alone the physical discomfort I also have a great husband who does support me and he is very easy going so if I say I dont want to or cant do something thats fine The one thing he found difficult to adjust to is my walking slower !!!! He was the one who had to keep up with me before !!
Ive found the sleeping away from home not too bad as most of my hoildays have meant that half the day is on a sunbed snoring !!
So I dont think you are being a wet blanket I think it is just individual choiceand if travel has been a big part of your life it is hard to think you wont ever be able to manage it again I have a friend who hate holidays hates going away from home and others who have virtually backpacked in India !! neither appeals to me !!!
I do worry when I see people who are posting so late at night or early in the morning as I know it means cant sleep !!
Have a good day and enjoy what you can do Im off to sort my horses out and then will be cooking Roast Beef and watching my husband paint !!
Best wishes
Mrs G

Glad you pressed 'submit' because its always good to have lots of opinions to any advice so we can pick what suits our situation and health. You're certainly not a wet blanket :yikes: I tend to forget how lucky I am because I have a home in Spain, the journey is easy, I know the Doctor who has a surgery just up the road and I can get up at 2am and make myself a drink and turn the TV on if I can't sleep (plus I chose the bed and the mattress so I know its comfy!). My partner does all the carrying (the one thing I do find difficult) and also does the driving if I'm tired, so yes, I am lucky and I'm glad you put the other side of the coin to this post We've booked to drive down to Spain again in the summer as I coped really well last year (surprised me as I was very apprehensive about it and demanded late starts, early bed and short distances per day!). I'm just off to visit one of my best friends who phoned me on Tuesday and just said 'I've got weeks left'. I feel so sad yet determined to live my life to the full as much as my health will allow in her honour. Its all ups and downs in this life isn't it :? Never made marmalade, mucked out a horse or been to the Maldives, so lots left on my bucket list (maybe I'll pass on the mucking out Mrs G!). Take care.

Has Betty been giving you colouring lessons? 8)I thought that was so clever and wondered if I could do it, too (I'll be shocked if it works :shock. I'm quite envious that I haven't got a colour for my name!
I'm glad you pressed \"submit\", too, and definitely don't feel like a \"wet blanket\" because, as you say, \"we are all different\" and so all our experiences will be different and what suits one person is not necessarily going to suit another.
I'm not travelling to any foreign field but will just enjoy the glorious English summer we're going to have this year 8)

When I press \"reply to this experience\" a box comes up and above it says Tip: Styles can be applied quickly to selected text. There are a series of little boxes which suggest \"bold\", \"italics\" etc. Just below that it says Font colour, with another rectangular box (sorry about all these boxes :oops. This says Default. Your default colour is black but if you scroll down there are lots of others. You can then highlight what you want to colour.
On the other hand I am rubbish at emoticons - don't know what they all represent! I occasionally get a quick flash of an explanation but am terrified of putting something really rude or upsetting[/color:744485b263]
I use a MacBook so maybe its system is a bit different to others? Windows might look different?
We have just been booking up some holiday in the Isle of Wight this summer, Husband doesn't like \"abroad\", although we get lots of jokes about \"South Sea Islands\" etc, and \"going on a cruise\", i.e. the I of W ferry! I think he's got tired of even more grey weather - I certainly have!
Take care, with love Green Granny[/color:744485b263]

Thank you for that very early morning lesson (do hope that doesn't mean you've had a horrid sleepless night :sleepy: . I hope I prove an excellent pupil and do credit to your really clear teaching! I now realise that I had omitted to highlight your name at my first try!
With this consistenty dull weather, the \"South Sea Islands[/color:5fce7bdb09]\" sound very inviting at this moment! 8). Meanwhile, I'll have to settle for the Calypso-themed 65th birthday party for my friend in West Sussex in a couple of weeks time! :P
Very best wishes and do hope you can have a little catnap

Well you are going to the place with the most sunshine in the UK !!
I grew up in Lymington and we had and there still is a ferry link to the Ireland We would go across to Yarmouth and catch the bus to beautiful sandy bays Havent been across for ages
Italian brother in law was always fascinated by it !! They always came across at Christmas for years so hardly the best time to go so he was always asking what it was like he was convinced it was very different to England ?? as they used to do something about it at school in Italy I told him its a bit like little England where you have parts like Cornwall parts like Devon and for a small place it has quite a fast changing landscape He was happy once he had investigated for himself I always worked with quite a few people from the Island who travelled daily but none of them wanted to move across and I knew some who would leave a car in Southampton or Portsmouth so they didnt have to !!
I must try some of these colours soon !!

We are off to the Isle Of Wight in June and taking our family with us to help celebrate my 60th   Only ever had a day trip there years ago when the children were small and we had rented a cottage in Lymington..... had always promised myself we would go back.
We have rented a large house on the beach in Cowes so am really looking forward to it.
Fingers crossed we have a warm sunny week although won't matter very much because will have my lovely family and grandaughter with us and that will make me smile :D

Just a change of scenery will do you so much good, it doesn't matter where it is. And the Isle of Wight :wow: - I've been waxing lyrical about that little beauty today. Going with the family just puts the icing on the cake doesn't it? You'll love the shops in Cowes! Take care and keep well.
