My understanding is 12 weeks posterior. Maybe much sooner anterior.

I agree.  Double check with your surgeon but I believe one of my restrictions after posterior approach was no bending at the waist more than 90 degrees for 90 days.

I still cant bend my legs the right way to do that so its still my locely dads job to cut and paint my toe nails. Hes surprisingly very good at it after many years of doing it for me 😂

But i would wait till 12 weeks to be safe, anyone you trust enough to do it for you? X

      Hello Sarah,

I'm sareeta , 33 years old and going to do a Thr next week...am v scared...can you give me some advice?

Dare i say Sereeta, you are in alot of pain from your hips as they are, and that is not going to get better by itself.

Surgery takes away that pain, and replaces it with some dis-comfort that every day gets better, yes it is challengeing, and yes it does take some time to get better. follow Dr's and nurses advice, do your exercises, it all helps you get well.

You will notice especially when they help you to get on your feet the first time that the pain in your hip joint has gone, even the first morning dosed up on painkillers I could feel the difference, no grinding and clunking, no slipping feeling of the joint balancing on a marble on ice, and no warning of which way it would slip or slide next, what a relief.

By day two post surgery, walked to the day room 60 bed ward, so a long walk, if but very slowly.

Surgery itself is easy, small needle in back, spinal, and you feel nothing from there down, they also give you sedation, and you just go to sleep, and wake up about an hour later with the nurses offering you a cup of tea., if they use General you will be much more woozy afterwards.

Pain is well controlled by the nurses giving you medication and they even give you some to take home, you will be able to stop taking the really strong medicine after about 10 days, and then stop taking panadol after about 3 weeks later.

You won;t know yourself, best thing thats happened to me, gave me back my life, I was trapped in a wheelchair, as I could not walk more than about 10 steps without being in agony.

Im Sareeta, im 20. Im not going to lie, the recovery is a lot harder than the surgery itself. The surgery is a breeze tbh. Is someone going to be able to help you after the surgery? Where are you based? X

Thanks. I realised that the rehab will take months. I'm in Mauritius.

Wheres that? Yes the recovery can take anywhere from 16 weeks to 12+ months. Iv been told my recocery is going to be about 18 months aand in my current situation i believe that. But we must remember that in the long run it will be worth it, no matter the heartbreak or frustration we feel during the recovery.

      When is your surgery? X

Mauritius is a wonderful little island in the Indian ocean smile since my childhood there were certain movements which I couldn't do with my left leg but I lived with it...e.g to sit like the hindu priests crosses leg and it pained always in winter...until I gave birth last year to my adorable son...I saw a change in my hip..mobility decreased..started to pain even in summer...last August it was diagnosed I had a dysplasia of the left hip..the pain was 3/10 increased to 5/10 ...pain killers became a usual thing but now it's 9/10..cannot run after my toddler..and had taken the hardest decision I ever made in my life...doing a hip replacement..surgery on the 22nd ..am soo worried how will I take care of my baby if I cannot take care of myself!!!

I know how you feel, i had left hip dysplasia diognosed at 6 weeks old and have gone onto have 13 surgeries and a very limited life with no internal rotation at all, i still dont.

Will you be able to get any help with your son as you will not be allowed to bend over, crouch or do any movements like that for atleast 6 weeks, you will also be on crutches or walking sticks. How old is your lovely little boy?

My husband will take care of my son and I hired a nurse for the first 2 weeks and will see..I really appreciate your comments..Sometimes it's not easy to tell people these things because long term they think I fake the pain..thank you. I feel that you listened to me and that gives me courage.

Hi Sareeta. I was scared the first time. Petrified in fact. But theres really no need to be scared. Before my 1st hip was replaced I spent 2 years on crutches, housebound, in denial and moving at a snails pace. Every step was excruciating. I cldnt even roll over in bed. I had my 2nd hip replaced 3weeks ago and my recovery this time around has been so much faster! For me, the first 7 days were the worst as was painful to sit on my bum after they'd cut thru the muscle. But that was it! Its a very common, straight forward surgery and if I hadn't googled so much rubbish the 1st time around i wouldn't have worked myself into a such a frenzy. You can do this! It REALLY does alter your life completely. You will be SO pleased after its been done!!!
