My dear forum friends …

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers .

I am doing a  lot better today and am sure that this will continue –

My “ailment” had nothing to do with the hip replacement surgeries – well, not directly anyway –

That is why I am a little hesitant to talk about it, but since you have been with me for so long, I will share some of it –

I have said many times that this THR surgery was/is very confrontational for me – I relate to all of your emotions as I went through them myself –

This forum has been part of my life for almost 2 years –

My first THR surgery was March 19, 2015 (I can’t believe it) and when 4 weeks post-op I found this forum – Of course I had issues and nobody to ask ..

The love and unconditional support I felt I will never forget …

I live alone but because of  I did not feel alone … many dark fearful nights I was up and reading the discussions -

My 2nd THR surgery was September 10, 2015 – Again, the forum was my place to go to every day until a couple of weeks ago.

I have been in sort of poor health for a while – flu and cold and just achy –

I probably picked up some bug in the senior citizen home where I do volunteer work and got violently ill (sorry for the drama) –

I thought I had food poisoning but instead contracted the Norovirus - I was sick for 2 weeks – Then got the flu …

This all contributed to, what I call, the dark night of the soul … My hips are repaired – They were my focus for years and now I am done …

What will be my next step?

I will figure it out, or not – It is okay and I know this will pass ..

Thank you for reading and your concern -

I feel like a mother hen abandoning her chicks !!!

Big warm hug

renee

    Renee nice to here you,

I am 27, and THR in left leg (naturally Bcoz of AVN) on 14 Feb 17 (16 days of now), Can you help me on below

    1. When can I sit down on floor

    2. I feel that there is slight difference in between my leg length, operated leg 1cm longer than right, so will it be reduced as I get recovered(as told by my doctor)

      Hi Ajinkya,

I had the same op for the same reason in November.

You definitely cannot sit on the floor for several weeks, and if you mean crossing your legs (like a lotus type position) then the answer may be never. Right now your hip muscles are weak and damaged from the surgery and the underlying condition. You will be exceptionally lucky if they will lift you off the floor - that is a journey to fast for the vast majority of people. And can't be achieved without bending part the 90 degrees ban!

In several weeks (i'd suggest at least 12, to be safe) you MAY be strong enough to rise from the floor and to bend at the hip to that degree but I would strongly advise taking your surgeons advice on it. But I doubt you will be comfortable and you may always find this very uncomfortable and somewhat risky in the future. I have very strong muscles and a near perfect recovery - and at this point in time it is still difficult for me to rise from the floor, and I won't be making a habit of it for quite some time!

Leg length - everyone's legs are different lengths anyway, naturally. It's just that we mostly don't notice it because we grew up that way! In most cases toy will get used to it. A few people here have found that the difference is actually a tilt in the pelvis due to the way they have walked while in pain before the op. Again, this should correct itself, but physiotherapy would help most.

Hi Mom. Glad you are now feeling better. Next year get a flu shot in October👍

There you are! We all missed you.

Ugh, a friend of mine got norovirus, and it's nasty! Getting that and flu...? There have obviously been bugs loitering with intent around your place.

It's meteorological spring today. Time to shake off the cobwebs and get ready for a heatwave this summer. Possibly wishful thinking, but...

I know !!!  not sure about the heat wave though - when living in L.A., during heat wave (3 years!) I was wishing for this kind of weather ..

well, now I got it .... be careful what you wish for

Much better thanks. Still a bit sensitive at times but the new treatment appears to be working really well.

I hope you are feeling much better now, Renee! You've been such a great support and shining light for many of us here on Patient, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I first joined this forum at the end of 2015, about 5 months after my THR, and I have read every post you made since I joined. What a great forum friend you are! Take care, and may you have a fulfilling journey in whatever direction you choose to go. ??💜💙💛💚??

    Hi Renee,

I'm very glad you're on the mend.

I had norovirus in December.  It was awful!

    Take care, Cels Xxx

Isn't it ?????   Must have picked it up in the retirement home where I volunteer ... even though the people who were sick stayed in their flat, some of them were brought back too soon .... and around and around it went ..

Oh, it's so contagious you can pick it up almost anywhere.

Do you still have trochanteric bursitis or has that cleared up now?   I fancy I might have a touch of it (self-diagnosed redface).  I would welcome a chat about it sometime.

Trochanteric Bursitis has cleared over time - I absolutely did not want the cortisone shot - I guess the old new hip got overburdend - the whole learning to walk properly made me walk rigid and akward - but this is my guess only -

Oh Cels, so many things, right ....

      hope you are doing good

      Thanks Renee,

My hip is fine when I walk, it's just sitting and lying that is painful, whenever pressure is put on the area.  I don't know if that tallies with your experience of trochanteric bursitis but I'm going to see my GP this afternoon.

I hope you're feeling better now hun Xx

      Hi Cels

You have just described trochanteric bursitis - in it's early  stages - to a t! Unfortunately, it gets worse! The good news is - I have a fabulous private physio, who is the BEST! And I also had a lot of problems with mine. In fact, I'm getting a touch in the right side now due to my other restrictions. And she gave me shed loads of advice on how to self treat that works! If you need any help, then message me and I'll do whatever I can to help. I know how awful it can be, but if you can catch it now, you can avoid needing the shots.
